Watched it last night. Glad I got it on Netflix and didn't pay for it at theater, hated the movie. Just another Michael Cera love letter to hipsters. Terrible, F.

me too, Im over the michael cera bit, he plays the same character every movie and doesnt have any range as an actor. If he still is a star in 5 years Ill explode. I really dont consider this a movie at all, also what was the tone of this movie? comedy? real life? super hero? straight up video game? I did not like it at all.

I edited but instead it cloned my post, odd.

I always kind of laugh every time I see this film described as a "loveletter to hipsters"

The only characters that are really hipster like, in that they are self absorbed and pretentious are the VILLIANS.

I mean with the main villian you have a guy that is ego obsessed and sees himself as the supreme trendsetter. "I'm what's HIP!"

What is it about being in a garage band, wearing a Smashing Pumpkins shirt or liking the X-Men makes you a hipster?

I don't care what anyone says, Micheal Cera in this movie is not just same ol' as his other roles. It's maybe not a complete departure from some of his others, but certainly different. At this point, I think there's a certain group of people who are just going to hate him and use that line no matter what role he plays.

Totally. If anything, Scott and friends are geeks/nerds.

And IMO, Cera was great in this, and he Did show a different side of him as an actor like anger and badassery. And I never cared about him before this. Guy has great comedic timing.

Check this out. SO CUTE!

I dismiss this movie when it first came out but its seems to be on many reviewers' list for best of 2010 so I hope to check it out soon.

I saw a digital copy of this movie on a laptop over christmas, so I can only imagine how great those fight scenes looked on a big screen, they looked massive on a laptop screen.
I was not feeling that great while watching the movie, and had to struggle to stay awake for the last ten minutes, but still thoroughly enjoyed it up until the end, with no dips in quality, i think that is the test of a good movie for me, if i feel like crap and that makes me forget about it for a while.
cera was good in the film, v good, they all were.
and there are plenty of comedic actors who could be said to play similar roles in many movies, i've only seen the guy in two films, so can't really comment on that, but he did seem like a totally different character from the guy he played in superbad, it's just that he has this mild mannered way about him, that is consistent in the two roles, but they do feel like different people.
It's a real shame that a movie with this much intelligence and wit bombed at the ww bo, while so many crappy comedies do well.
Hopefully he will get hi sAnt-Man movie on the go, it would be amazing i think to see him take on the sh genre.

I finally checked this film out. Eh, I wasn't a fan. Michael Cera was good in this. I definitely liked me some Mary Elizabeth Winstead. And don't get me wrong, the movie was well made. I was surprised at all the star power in this. I enjoyed the action scenes. But...I didn't like the story at all.

I treat it as a video game in real life
Then the movie is even more ******ed. If anyone considers this a good movie let alone movie of the year then I would say expand your taste. this definitely is the worst movie I've seen all year.

This is the second best movie I've seen this year... first being Toy Story 3 :)

Coming from the guy who couldn't figure out the tone of the film, when it's obvious in the first five or so minutes, maybe something else needs expanding here.

I agree, if you like one of the most unique movies of recent years you need to expand your tastes.

This film although flawed in places is one that I still find myself going back to watch again and again. At times I feel that I wish there was more substance towards the end of the film and more space between the fights, but that's a small quibble.

I like this film more and more, every time I watch it. I am now a proud owner of it on Blu-ray and can't wait to watch it again. :)

Exactly. Maybe some people just can't handle the awesomeness that is this film.:o :D

I think this is a great film adaptation of the source material. Wright really did the best he possible could in trying to condense 6 books into just one film.

That said, yeah, I would have liked to have seen more backstory in between the fights, but I understand why it wasn't possible, though. However, I never understood why some people think that there wasn't enough substance in the film. I think there was plenty, there is lots of subtext in it if you pay more attention, and the film has a lot of heart too.

I really wish it had been made as a 6-part miniseries for HBO. Same cast and everything. That way nothing would need to be cut.

I think that the style would have suffered greatly and the fight scenes would be stripped bare. I don't think it could work. It may have, but I very much doubt it. This film was costly, I doubt a HBO show would spill as much cash.

lol I have to laugh when someone who commented on being perplexed by the wide range of generes and tones exhibited in this one movie tells people who enjoyed it to "expand their tastes." I'm not trolling or trying to rip on marvelman, I honestly found humor in it.

Well, it does seem the Pacific cost a lot of money, but still I don't think HBO would pick up something like this.

My 2 cents really.

actually I really couldnt see any channel picking up something like this, even G4 despite their having code monkeys, that and if g4 made it itd be horrible.
