Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised. Barrett isn't bad, but he's not quite the level they seem to think he is. Cody Rhodes should have been the leader of the Survivor Series team.
Agreed but at least Cody survived, I was sure Orton would pin him before falling to Barrett. For me Ziggler's style would give Taker the best match, he'll bump his ass off for the Deadman and won't require Taker to carry a cumbersome opponent.
I almost agree but make no mistake about it, the money match is Cena vs The Rock. There's no doubt in my mind that Punk going after Rock on the mic would be good, but the already planned match is where the money is right now. Cena needs to get off this goody two shoes, milk and cookies stuff and go off on The Rock. He doesn't need to turn heel, but he does need to grow some balls and stop getting chumped.
I'm not sure that is actually true at this point, I think the line begins and ends with "The Rock is the money match", he could face one of about 5 guys and draw around the same buyrate IMO.
The WWE are trying to bill this as the battle of the faces of two generations, but they aren't. Austin was the face the of Attitude Era for starters, and Cena is the forced face of the PG generation, a guy who gets as many boos as cheers and who loses the crowd any time he faces another top face never mind cool heels. He is the guy that to half the audience is the face of everything that has changed for the worse about the business.
So I think this Mania, in Miami with a probable HOF induction the night before, is mainly about drawing money off The Rock as he has no equal in this current generation. Cena is so far down the track now I'm not sure he can turn back the tide of hate for him, it may well just come off as trying too hard, and no matter what he does he will get booed out of Miami, heck this is a guy who gets booed in his own home town, a venue that is usually a refuge for even the most hated heel.
Personally as an aside I think if he'd come out of retirement HBK vs The Rock could outdraw Cena vs The Rock, it's arguably the biggest dream match across generations that is left.
I'm not saying Punk would do any better against The Rock, could he have a better match? yes because he's a better worker, would the promos be stronger? yes because Punk has way more to his character and is genuinely venomous when he wants to be. However it's too soon in Punk's ascendancy for him to stand as a legit name opposite The Rock, he doesn't have the big main events under his belt for that to stick, maybe in two years but not now. However Punk has shown that it's a fallacy that a guy cannot be over with all the age groups in the crowd, he wasn't at first but it didn't take long for the kids and women to get on his bandwagon as well, so it may well have been the more interesting pairing with The Rock.
