Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Oh my god, I cannot get passed Shinobi Owl!

Spent a good two plus hours on him. Never taken this long to get past a boss in a From game before. Orphan Of Kos was easier. I know his move set like the back of my hand, and know where all the openings are, but I just can’t kill the b******!

Might take a break and come back to it. :cmad:

Damn I love this game and yet hate it at the same time, just when you think you have it sussed it throughs up a whole new boss that stops you in your tracks and makes you rethink your strategy entirely.

Love the lore and story behind it all though and am determined to get their in the end no matter how long it takes, the Genichiro and Ape fights were insane and very different from each other but so memorable.

Might need a new joypad after finishing this one though, lol.

I fought him last night. What an incredible fight!

I equipped the Shadowrush skill for the first time and that really came in handy. Now I'm set to fight him again in the Hirata state and I heard he's much harder there.

EDIT: Here's how it went:

My main problem with him... and your video shows this off perfectly... is that he’s a Bloodborne boss in a Sekiro game. He forces you to dodge, instead of deflect, as he breaks your posture too easily. I’ve spent the whole game learning to perfect the Sekiro style, and now I have to go back to Orphan of Kos tactics?

He’s bull****.

So, I faced him in Hirata State and, yeah, people were right. He's much harder there (and also optional). It felt like his health was bigger and he could cause more damage to my posture.

I probably died over 20 times trying to perfect my moves against him. But you're right about having to deflect less and dodge more. His attacks break our posture much faster than we can cause his health to go down, so it's more of a safety and last resort move.

Still had some flaws in the end because it's a long battle, but oh so fullfiling and satisfying when you finally beat him. If I had to face him again in the lookout tower (and I will in NG+) I'd dodge forward and to the right, this time. You have to do it in the right milisecond. Before or after that and he gets you.

I uploaded my fight against him in the Hirata State (no resurrection, this time) and I hope it can help you out on anything:

Lawdy somehow managed to kill Owl at Ashina but with no res's left and out of healing gourds, that less 30 seconds where very sweaty but he's done. Mortal Draw FTW.

Trying to get back to him again at Hirata State but struggling to get past the drunkard before him now, lol, not that I am looking forward to fighting him again when he's even harder after the 50 or so deaths to him when he's "easy".

This game though, it winds you up but I cant quit it and I love the story and ways its presented.

I plan on getting this eventually because I love all of FromSoftware's previous releases but was wondering just how different the gameplay is from past games.

It's completely different. It doesn't feel anything like Dark Souls. I actually prefer SoulsBorne to this. There's not really any RPG elements, and you don't have a variety of weapons or gameplay, like you do in SoulsBorne. It's still a very challenging game, and it's definitely fun, but I think it lacks in depth, compared to SoulsBorne.

I don't even know if I'll play this game again? With SoulsBorne, I can't tell you how many times I've replayed those games?

The design of Sekiro makes it far less easier to cheese then their previous games. You can't just pack on the health or strength, to brute force your way through a boss. So because you have to actually learn attack patterns and such, I'd say Sekiro's combat has more depth. Even with one weapon.

And if we are talking high levels Souls play, everyone knows there are only two real weapons anyway. The great sword and double daggers.

Thanks for the replies. I look forward to playing it and I'm sure it will test my patience levels like their past games.

Yeah where as other similar games let you become OP to cake walk most of a game after an initial learning curve but not really here, there are some cheeses out there but not for every fight certainly, some you are going to have to learn how to beat through practice and study of your opponents moves.

Never played the Souls games so cant really compare but I think they were more RPG based than this but also tough in their own way still of course I am assuming.

Just got past Demon of Hate and have two main bosses left to go to complete but neither are going to be a push over.

Beat it twice last night to get 2 of the 3 regular endings. I'm going into NG+ now to get the platinum trophy.

This game provides the most amazing and exhilarating 1vs1 boss fights and I want to do them all again.

Can't say if I prefer this one to Bloodborne, but both are extraordinary. I'll patiently wait for their next amazing game in this style, whatever it is.

Back to playing this after mk11 bamboozled me into buying it so angry.
