Wikipedia is reputable?!?!? Okay this conversation needs to come to an end it will never end...lol.
If you don't own stock, the DOW Jones doesn't really effect you all that much. Just because the unemployment rate is down, doesn't mean these are the same level jobs that people lost when the current administration allowed American corporations to ship the jobs overseas. The way I judge how well the economy is doing, is by how well I AM DOING. If my life is getting harder while my income stays the same, then the economy is not so hot, and vice versa. The economy is not as good a rich republicans would like us to believe.lazur said:First, read up on what an Economy is and how to measure it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy
Next, read this CNN article about how the DOW Jones hit a record high last month: http://money.cnn.com/2006/10/03/markets/markets_0130/
Next, read this CNN article on how the unemployment rate is at a 5 year low: http://money.cnn.com/2006/11/03/news/economy/jobs_october/index.htm
That's as straight forward as it gets. If you still believe the economy sucks, you're not able to see reason, and therefore debating with you is pointless.
(And take note that I'm giving you links to reputable sources - not obscure sites with a political agenda.)
Cheers.

hippie_hunter said:Because raising the minimum wage raises prices in goods which completely destroys the purpose of raising the minimum wage. They are spending the same percentage of their money for food, gas, clothing, etc. The lower class remains the same with no benefit at all. Rasing the minimum wage can result in lay-offs due to the rising costs of production and labor.
Raising the minimum wage negatively affects the middle and upper classes by raising the prices of goods and they don't have an increase of income (which they don't need). As a result, a higher percentage of their income goes to basic needs.
Try living on minimum wage, you bully! Better yet, try being a single mother who has to work 3 jobs at minimum wage just to support herself and her child. Try that and then come back and tell me that $5.15 is high enough! You make me sick!lazur said:You're late to the discussion. Minimum wage should be whatever it needs to be to ensure that the unemployment rate doesn't go through the roof. The higher the minimum wage, the more people who are out of work because companies cannot afford to pay them all.
Try reading the last few pages.
Addendum said:But again, minimum wage jobs are not meant to raise or support a family or be a career.
If a person doesn't merit a raise from minimum wage without government involvement, then that person is a ****ty worker.
Addendum said:But if someone can barely make a living earning minimum wage, why the hell do they start a family of their own?
That's the part I don't get.

So they slip and fall on the penis, which leads to another fluke and impregnates the female?
Actually poverty has gone up about 1-2% since Bush took office. And it wasn't because of his policies. It was because the economy took a turn for the worse right when his administration began. The stock market went down, unemployment went up, consumers were buying less, etc. It's the economic cycle that does it, not the government.Spider-Bite said:your forgetting that the poverty rate has gone up every single year since Bush became president. millions now live in poverty that didn't before his economic practices went into effect.
I'm middle class and I've got it pretty damn good.the amount of wealth in america is good, but when you look at the amount of wealth in the lower and midle classes its not so good.
You missed my example. I've met plenty of women who made some poor choices when it came to boyfriends. They end up pregnant, he takes off. Now, she's got a child and limited time. The only places that offer that kind of schedule flexability are minimum wage jobs. And besides, if you work a 40 hour work week, that's $206.00 for the week. What can you honestly do with that, even if you're a single person living alone in a one bedroom apt..Addendum said:Accidentally get pregnant.

Addendum said:I'm saying don't be foolish and start a family when you flip burgers at McDonalds or push carts at the localy walmart.
I've had plenty of ****ty jobs, and I'm at a mediocre job currently. But in between that time, I busted my ass looking for work. I lost count how many white socks turned blood red because I spent all day looking for work.
If someone else doesn't take their work ethic seriously where they have to rely on others to improve their condition in life instead of pulling up their bootstraps and busting their ass and earning or meriting it, **** em.
Perhaps they should have thought about how they will support a child when they open their legs and ****.Spider-Bite said:1. are you saying they should just have an abortion?
When have they? You forget that I'm a cynic and consider our "leaders" make ******s look like geniuses.Spider-Bite said:2. Are you saying our leaders should not make the best choices for our economy?
None.Spider-Bite said:3. what kind of standards do you believe in for America?
I prefer hard work instead of waiting for the government to help out.Spider-Bite said:poverty or no poverty?
Spider-Bite said:just be clear where you stand and admit your pro-poverty.
rdh007 said:What is it meant to do then? Encourage people to just go on welfare rather than work around the clock to not be able to feed/clothe their kids? I wish I felt bad for the small business owner, but there is something called "the cost of doing business".

No, think before you ****.RedIsNotBlue said:So I guess your saying ban sex as something for pure enjoyment. Sounds like a good way to live.Only middle class people can have sex now everyone sorry.
