I re-read it. It was a good read and a refreshing piece of writing. While he is telling good storylines (something Spider-Man hasn't seen in 3 years when JMS quit writing good stories and Jenkins and Millar were gone)....his characterizations seem off.
Despite my distaste for JMS' contributions as of late (Sins Past was awful, The Other started well but ended dreadfully and Civil War hwile obviously Joey Q's **** up, as was Sins Past, JMS was his tool in bringing the sludge to the fans).....
I really do think he has written Aunt May better than anyone. I feel Aunt May is a little too gimmecky and faux-weak again in these stories. And since MJ and Pete got back togehter (come to think of it, from another good JMS story), they had seemed to resolve and put the plot device of her "not being able to take Peter being Spidey" behind her. I feel it is really out of character for her to go to a bus station and considering going to Boston.
But I did like the use of flashbacks and her having lunch with Sue Storm was a REALLY nice touch. And I think her anxiety works....albeit not at such a heightened level (and she did AGREE to the unmasking, thanks once again to the awful writing of JMS as of late).
I also am kind of critical of how he really COMPLETELY mishandeled Liz Allen in the last few issues....and Molten Man and Normie for that matter. But he uses Peter and Black Cat well and while his MJ is not phenomenal, it is decent (I've seen two of the current writers in their better days write MJ much more interestingly however).
Still....A GOOD SPIDER-MAN STORY is rare to see these days. So whatever.
