Sgt. Rock

Because it’d essentially be a pulp war story from one of our best working directors. That’s just something cool that you do if you can.

It’d likely be an Elseworld story anyway.

Or a DCU story. We have no idea. Heck, Spielberg's Blackhawks movie, back when WB was just throwing any ideas against the wall, likely would have been a good war story too, but that never happened.

I mean, lots of projects don’t and won’t happen in Hollywood. I’m not worried about that.

I don’t really see this coming to fruition, but if they can actually get it pass development, they should definitely do it. Forget priority.

It also just screams Elseworld to me. The labeling is there for a reason.

Daniel Craig would be a great pick, if he would agree to do it.

I swear to God if we get a Sgt. Rock movie before a Wonder Woman one...

I’m sure the movie will be good w the talent involved but I don’t give a **** if this happens or not. Don’t care about this character at all.

**** IP. It’s Luca and Craig! This is a thousand times more exciting than Superman or any of the other bigger name DC projects happening simply because of the talent involved. I say this as someone who has never read a Sgt. Rock comic and also couldn’t possibly care less about the character.

Oh my GAWRSH.

I watch comic book movies because they adapt things I liked as a kid. It’s the imagination fulfillment aspect of comic movies that excites me. I don’t get excited for these movies just because of the people involved in them, I watch them for the characters. I never cared about this character, so I don’t care about this movie.

This is a home watch for me, definitely won’t pay to see it in theaters.
I’m sure it will be at least decently good and DC could use a win.

I’m glad other people are excited but i want to see Luca’s American Psycho way more. Interesting IP + intriguing talent there. Can’t say I feel the same about Sgt Rock.

You’ve gotten two Wonder Woman movies. You can live with a bit of a wait for a third.
I guess? It just frustrates me a little bit the uncertainty surrounding the character in the DCU. We already know Superman and Batman are going to have their own solo projects (the latter is going to have two concurrent franchises!), while nothing on Diana. And Paradise Lost is just as exciting to me as the Gotham and Krypton shows—not much.

I'll probably still watch Sgt. Rock though. I'm still excited for the future of DC.

The movies they should make are whatever good filmmakers proactively want to make. If it’s a big name character, great - if it’s a relative rando like this, great.

This is exciting. Right now, I’m hoping it’s set in the DCU, even if just a one-and-done. Just make a good war movie set in the DCU’s WWII.

The only exposure I have the character is in the JL episode Savage Land and the DC Showcase short. The latter features the Creature Commandos but I really don’t know where the character could / should go, and if any of those characters should even show-up. Kind of like the idea of this being a straight-up war flick with Sgt. Rock at the helm.

I have the feeling that, if it is going to be set in the DCU, GI Robot is going to be in it.

“Supergirl? Excuse me Supergirl, will you step out of the way please? You’re getting in the way of me making a bull**** point.”

I’m curious about something here and I want to get fans’ perspectives on this. If this movie does fit into the larger DCU, do you think it will just be an old school war movie or do you think it will feature some fantastical elements as well? I’ve always thought of Sgt. Rock as a fairly grounded soldier character, but recently I saw some images of him (apparently) fighting zombies in a comic so I guess sometimes his stories have gone into that territory.

I could see the arguments for both. On one hand, making the story more fantastical almost seems to go against the point of the original comic, which was to tell serious war stories with a fairly grounded protagonist. However, given Gunn’s statements about how superheroes have existed in this world for a long time, it almost seems strange to not include those elements. And I do think it could be really cool to see some Golden Age heroes show up in a movie set in the 1940s. I wouldn’t want them to go overboard with that stuff but it could make the film feel very different than your typical war story, while also not feeling like a typical superhero story. I’m thinking something more like Overlord, only with less horror elements.

Though I have no idea if Luca and Craig would be interested in doing something like that. Then again, Luca up until this point hasn’t show interest in war films, so who knows? He did make a cannibal love story movie, so I would say anything is fair game lol.

Bring this energy to modern CBMs, please God…
