Shameless

This new season has been terrible. Almost painful to get through. It's by far the worst season with its even more ridiculous writing than any other season.

That being said, the ending of last episode and the episode in general, was extremely satisfying. It had the heart that this show has gotten away from this season in favor of dumb over the top nonsense.

Every Shameless fan had to be smiling though at the end of last episode

I got pretty emotional at the end of that episode.

While I think the earlier seasons were better I still enjoy the show.

Anyone still watching?

Season 8 was unbelievably bad and I ended up stop watching at the beginning of S09. Then Emmy Rossum announced she was leaving, then I had to see her goodbye (which, I must say, she deserved much better than that).

Then, since the show is ending, I binged the tenth season to catch up with the final one. So far it's been pretty meh. Frank's dementia storyline is basically the only one with potential but we're not there yet.

And that's what the show has been missing for the last few seasons: stakes.

PS. The idea of a final season without Fiona, who led the show for 9 years, is hard to take. It does feel like there's something missing.

I have did not watch season ten but will eventually. I knew they would most likely end the show at 11 because that’s when the UK original ended.

I still remember back when season 4 ended and most of us agreed that it was lol. It still is for me at least but that first season was gold too.

This show went off the rails a long time ago, but damn do I still love it just for the sheer insanity and ridiclous situations with the characters, especially William H. Macy as Frank which just seems to get crazier each season for some reason lol. It's a insanely entertaining show, but yeah it has alot of problems and if Emmy Rossum doesn't come back sometime during this final season its going to be a huge missed oppurtunity IMO.

Fiona not being a central character in the final season is already a huge kick in the balls for me.

I'd like to see her at least for the few final episodes where there will be enough time to build something proper. But that's looking unlikely, sadly.

We'll be lucky to get a cameo.

How Emmy Rossum didn’t receive an Emmy for her work on any season of this show (especially seasons 1-4) is crazy to me.

They kinda screwed her tho. In the first 3 season the show competed as a drama. Then on S04 they changed the category for comedy. She's great and all, but thats not what she does as Fiona, especially on S04, her strongest year.

It worked for Macy tho, who got several nominations.

And after that the show slowly started to focus less and less on drama.

Agreed it was always a drama/comedy but as you said once they made that full switch it went down hill. Plus she was tired of the sex scenes as well and being paid less.

Simply because of all of the nudity. That actually hurts your chances at winning an award.

If that was true, Emilia Clarke wouldn't have been nominated 4 times.
And if you read her interviews she regrets doing that and has stated that it hurt her career in a way because everyone expected that from her.

All I know is that it had me in a state of “wtf” every year she wasn’t announced for a nom.

Well, it's over. And what an underwhelming finale. I had low expectations, but I was still disappointed. So lackluster.

And I still had a tiny little hope of seeing Fiona in the finale. And not seeing her made the finale even worst.

The show should've ended a long time ago.

My rank of the seasons would be:

S04
S03
S07
S01
S02
S05
S06

S09

S11

S10
S08

I still need to finish season 10 and watch the final season. Pretty disappointed to hear that Fiona didn’t make an appearance tho.

This series should've ended when Fiona left. Really what they should've done is brought her back on the series when they found out about Frank's medical condition. I also don't like the fact none of the family knows Frank died nor their reaction to his overdose. It was more or less like they were saying just die already. I wonder if they even asked Emma if she would like to come back.

That finale was so meh... at least Ian/Mickey have a hopeful future.

All of that nurse nonsense, without a Fiona phone VO or shot is an utter shame. The writing has been pretty trash since s8... but you’d think they’d try harder for the finale. So many, not necessarily endings, thoughtless or wet farts of scenes with characters showing no change or growth within the season.

Debbie needing everyone to stay home to magically falling in love with a random and maybe moving to TX, for her. Lip not selling for 200K only to nonchalantly sell for 75k... Frank’s wonderful fall into dementia and his Liam relationship strengthening, resulting in frank dying in a hospital from probably COVID - yet he just did two grams of heroin to only survive. Not getting a Frank funeral/party is just sad and dumb.

Also, the surreal filming didn’t fit Shameless, plus that after credits scene was so dumb. The little bit of heart that came back to Frank these past few episodes only to not effectively show it by a joke with his suicide note and not letting his family, or Fiona, actually show some inner love towards Frank, with a funeral, even after all of his failures as a dad.

Damn that makes me not want to finish the series lol.

I was sort of pleased with Frank's sendoff. I never thought he'd survive the series. Realy weird that he didn't mention Fiona in the letter to the family though. I needed more on how the kids were going live from now on. Could've put that in captions before the credits. So that was disappointing. I was afraid Emma Kenney was going to pull an Emmy Rossum and go topless in the episode. Seeing how we've seen her grow up during the show, it would've felt awkward. Though based on her social media, she's likely to do it there at this rate. :funny:

Emmy still promod the finale:
