Shameless

Yea this show is just wow. Can't believe it hasn't gotten any Emmys yet. It's a pretty hard sell for real, it's just about regular poor people and their every days lives. There's no real gimmick aside from them being "Shameless" but I see regular people mostly.

well said, yeah the situations are far fetched at times, but the reason it works so well is the characters just feel so real, hope it doesnt descend into the slapstick the UK version became

and hey they have one Emmy already :oldrazz:

I tried watching the UK version on Netflix, and couldn't get into it at all. Normally I'll like the UK version of some show better, but not in this case.

first couple of seasons were really good but it gradually got worse and worse, theres barely even any Gallaghers any more - the 1st seasons of US were quite faithful in alot of ways but kept the story fresh and more realistic and I think has become alot better than the UK one ever was

Usually the British television industry's looseness allows for more complete storytelling from season to season (or series), as each is a self-contained tale in itself. However, it does not lend itself to long-running shows like in the US. So, the fact the British series went 11 years is astounding, however Fiona and S-immy (James MacAvoy!) left after the first season. By the third series, it was just Frank, Ian and Liam with a whole new family.

The advent of premium cable television in the US, combined with the American industry's ability to sign talent on for 5+ years per show, allows them to actually tell the story Shameless originally was intended to be: the lives of the Gallaghers. For once, the American show has a huge advantage over the British counterpart and that's why you get episodes like this week where Fiona and Frank go to war in court. If Emmy is not nominated for an Emmy after this episode, that award loses all relevance.

I've been looking for this thread for forever. This series is AMAZING! I love how cosistent the episodes are there hasnt been a bad/boring one yet. And how William Macy isnt just collecting Emmys at this point is beyond me because he is amazing the whole cast is actually.

Anyone think V's mother is on birth control?

oooooh I hadnt thought of that, but yeah I think she just likes getting some Kev lovin

Ive only seen half of this weeks ep though on my morning commute (this and walking dead really arent shows best for viewing in public though)

why hasn't William h Macy gotten any emmy's the man is genius on this show

I hope Karen survives, I hope her and Lip get back together and I hope Lip kills Mandy. Karen has legit problems (though they have been ignored since the first season), but she never did anything like this. Mandy just showed how petty she is. Living up to her family name.

They better not cope out here. If Mickey takes the fall, it is bull. Lip knows and if he is half the person I think he is, he won't let her get away with it. She most certainly has lost what she wanted.

Yes, Lip who was ready to beat to death the neighborhood predator until he realized it was a hot blonde woman he could bang? Such a moral figure.

I never knew someone would pick Karen over Mandy. Karen is an evil manipulative monster who will destroy Lip's life. If Lip stays with her, he basically is the next generation of Frank and Monica with her. But I will not be surprised if the show goes that way.

Karen is Satan's spawn. I haven't been able to stand her since the end of S1.

Actually he was the only who actually tried to do something after. He just enjoyed it as well. And it has less to do with morals, and more to do with messing with someone he cares about. Like it or not, he cares for Karen.

You are actually going with "I hit her because she is mouthy" defense.

Karen is far from a monster. Is she manipulative? Yes. Is she self-centered? Completely. But there is some clear reasoning for how she is, and she most certainly isn't a killer.

Mandy is manipulative, self-centered and a lunatic. Horrible things have happened to her, but that doesn't suddenly entitle her to kill someone because she knows Lip doesn't care for her like he does Karen. Before Karen even showed up this season Mandy decided she was Lip's wife and was going to run his life.

Karen manipulates people to get what she wants. Mandy kills people to get what she wants.

Karen is Satan's spawn. I haven't been able to stand her since the end of S1.

And Mandy is what? False claims of rape and at the very least attempted murder. Perhaps Sheila will kill Mandy. That also sounds nice.

Sorry but yea Karen is the monster here. Karen doesn't love Lip. She loves her own twisted, ****ed up ego. Is what Mandy did pretty screwed up? Sure it is violence is never the answer but she's a Milkovich, anybody in that neighborhood knows not to mess with them. Mandy doesn't take **** and she stands up for herself. Karen isn't only manipulative, she's an emotional vampire. Pure and simple. Mandy wants Lip to do his best in life and live up to his potential and get the **** out of the Chi-town slums. It's like dude above said, Lip and Karen = future Frank and Monica. Just pure destruction. That isn't love. It's ego and passion and that's it.

Bottom line: Mandy is truly in love, and will physically defender her right to be with her man. Karen will do anything to **** up everything around her, just so someone will pay attention to her for 5 min, and then she'll dump them, and move on to the next person.

I am going to go with the actress on this one. She says Karen loves Lip, and if you have watched this show from the start, it is fairly obvious. Lip is one of the few people that can actually hurt Karen. Her father was another. They went crazy with her character last season, and almost hit the reset button with what happened at the end of the first season, but since her return it seems far more in line with how the character was originally being written.

Bottom line: Mandy is truly in love, and will physically defender her right to be with her man. Karen will do anything to **** up everything around her, just so someone will pay attention to her for 5 min, and then she'll dump them, and move on to the next person.
Bottom line is Lip doesn't feel the same way for Mandy. Whether she loves him or not, he doesn't love her, and that is why she tried to get rid of Karen. She knows Lip doesn't and will never feel the same about her as does for her. Just look at the preview for next week. There is a reason Mandy is still annoyed.

Also using your theory, why does Karen keep coming back to Lip? Shouldn't she simply move on?

And she most likely will, cause she does that with everybody in her life. She loves getting attention from guys, and when she's fulfilled with that, she moves on to the next guy. Right now, nobody likes her at all, even her mother hated her until the end of the last episode.

It's not a "theory", that's been her pattern this entire show.

Not true. The first season emphasis this with her reaction to Lip's "I love you" and her father's reaction to her doing what he asked her to do.

You're exactly right Travesty, and go back and read through this thread DS and you'll see that I have been here since the first episode. I've dated girls like Karen and they NEVER change. She's an emotional vampire plain and simple. Mandy at least has a ****ing soul and isn't a damn sociopath
