Shameless

I think she's supposed to be 16-17 in the show.

just to say, i don't mind the actress joining in with the nudity (She is 22 or 23 BTW) i'm just surprised Showtime can show a young character topless

Well, they showed Mia's breasts in the first season of Californication and she was supposed to be 16

And what glorious breast they were.

(Sidenote: Assuming there's been enough of a passage of time on the show to establish Mia finally being legal, since she's on next week's episode and meets up with the actress playing her in the movie based on Hank's book, Will Hank fight off the urge to have a meta-threesome? Both of them f***ing and punching him?)

I've been loving this show since its start, and it keeps getting better each week.

I'm a big fan of this show. Admittedly I didn't know it was a Brit remake when I started watching it. I have since seen a single episode of the original on the Sundance channel and it was from a later season but seemed paced much slower. I like the kinetic and ADHD tone of the British show. I heard that episodes 3 and 4 were also not in the Brit version.

Anyway the acting in this is great, the pacing makes it hilarious and it is a fun breezy show where there are few, if any, likable characters. I liked in the latest episode that they had a crossover with Big Love! Very funny.

Yeah this show is amazing so far I really care for the characters.

Ok this was an AMAZING episode!!! Their mom is truly worst then frank and kash shooting mickey wow. The whole cast blew away at the end I can't believe there are only three episodes. This season really went by so fast

That was a damn good bit of TV there...

i love the 'previously on...' little clips they have at the start of the episodes...

I gotta say, this show is absolutely amazing! Does anyone know if it has been renewed as of yet? One thing I do think they kinda dropped the ball with, at least from a storytelling stand-point, is the scene where Frank head-butted Ian. After the first ep aired and they showed previews for the season it showed a bit of that scene and the following ones and I honestly thought that that was going to come towards the end of the season and be used as a catalyst for the family to finally say **** Frank, cuz let's be honest Frank is a freakin scumbag drunk that makes his young adult daughter not only take care of him and put up with all his ******** but work her ass off supporting the family and taking care of everybody yet, you can still sympathize with him a bit due to Macy's brilliant portrayal and endearing quality. My point is that the whole head-butting his son thing went almost unpunished, cept for Steve's (Jimmy's) little intervention, and let's face it, that is blatant child abuse. But, then again Ian is what, 15? I got into plenty of fist fights with my dad when I was a young man, hell I've gone chasing after my dad with a hatchet before and another time he chased me 3 yards away with a 5 foot long land-scaping timber, **** happens like that in some families. That scene and the following conversation between Fiona and Frank just seemed so damn emotional in the preview that I just didn't think they would go ahead and bust it out in episode 2 but, I digress, these new developments with Steve/Jimmy and now mama Gallagher showing up have become incredibly emotional and engaging and yes, Monica is truly a piece of **** parent. At least Frank does stay in the kids' lives albeit sometimes as a drunken maniac who just breathes chaos but Monica, just wow. What a piece of work. Seriously, I wanted to jump into the tv and strangle that **** last night then stab that fat, black, ghetto-Monique in the eye with a flat head screwdriver. If I had been a member of that family I would have gotten that behemoth outta my damn house quick, especially after pulling the "race-card" about who should be raising Liam.

I really love Joan Cusack's portrayal of Sheila. First off, I'm a sucker for any character that suffers from serious psychiatric neuroses and/or psychoses, always been fascinated by psychology. Joan's portrayal is just astonishing and so utterly heartfelt that you really feel for this woman who has been mentally and emotionally abused by her husband but also has this strength about her. Seriously, she deserves an Emmy for her role. Anyways, rant over lol. That's how I've felt about the show so far, can't wait to see how it all turns out. There's also some other subplots and characters I love I just don't feel like elaborating anymore, this post has been long enough as it is lol

I like this show. As a fan of the original, I'm quite surprised by how they kept most of the story similar, but I'm also surprised by the changes they've made.

Micky doesn't turn up until season 4 in the original. And though gay, is an entirely different character. It's odd to see such an extreme difference. I can't say better or worse yet, but definitely different.

However, from the very little we've seen of his father, Paddy, just the casting alone is a problem.

I had no idea it was a remake. Cant think of a reason why I care either lol

The definition of ignorance = this ^

I tried to watch the remake but I simply can't get on with it, because it is just kind of missing the point to Americanise the show at all.

Shameless is a series that showcases Britains own obscure pride in it's shameless tendancies. We are sort of proud of our Frank Gallagher's. Some feel like swearing and getting out of our head drunk and getting in trouble is something that is part of our identity as British. It's the exaggeration of a stereotype of people that anyone who has grown up outside of prep schools in this country, understands and identifies with in some way.

I just don't think it particularly translates well.

It's the same way I feel about Skins and Being Human. And I swear to God, if they do an american remake of Misfits, i'm going to hit the roof.

TBH, as someone who watches a hell of a lot of American TV, I just find it a little insulting that we can't be given the same respect. If you like the ideas, then why not just watch our shows? Why do you have to strip them of the culture they came from?

I'm not getting into a personal arguement with you within a thread. I responded to your complete dismissal of the fact it was a remake. I found your comment showed you were happy to completely ignore that fact, as you couldn't see a SINGLE REASON why it would be worth caring about...

... and I found that statement to be offensive, and responded in defence of the source material, which personally I think you'll find, most Brits are very very proud of.

If you want to call me names, PM me.

Yea I'm actually ECSTATIC to dismiss the fact that it's a remake. I don't care, why should I care? That's good that you brits are proud of stuff like alcoholism and child abuse. I'm truly glad for your people and culture that you have such colorful things to be proud of and to share with the world. What I can't find reason behind is your need to quote a comment I made 2 months ago. Who cares? And as for name calling, you called me ignorant. I take offense to that. Blah blah blah, all joking aside, seriously why should I care that it's a remake? I understand the whole "respect the source material" thing but that's for the writers of this show to worry about, not me. I like this show, its perfect the way it is and I find no reason as to why I can't enjoy nay, love, this series without having ever seen the original. I can enjoy Dr. Who without having to go back and watch all the other series from the 60s on right? You get my point? Seriously, not tryna fight or argue. Just don't like being called ignorant. Especially because of a 2 month old comment lol

Oh, and I'm just giving you **** dude. I think the show is done really well, I seriously feel like I'm watching all kinda people I know in real life when I'm watching it. It's one of the only shows I've watched whose characters seem so down to earth and real

Really enjoyed the first two seasons of Shameless here in the UK, but after that the quality dipped with each season. Despite the fact the show was meant to portray a very British sensibility and feeling towards our 'shameless', it does translate very well into an American show and I personally enjoy the American version better. In pacing, acting and obviously aesthetic (we simply don't have US budgets) it's a superior show, with stand-out performances from Cusack, Macy and Rossum.

Also, yes, Shameless has been picked up for a second season.

Thanx man thats awesome news! Just to clarify, I wasn't putting brits down or anything in my above statements. Believe me, here in the states there are plenty of people whose behavior is just as shameless as the Gallaghers, if not more so. That's why I love this show so much, I feel like I'm watching a real family that is doing everything they can just to scrape by like so many people in this country have to do.

hopefulsuicide, if it makes you feel any better, I love watching British TV and I usually like the originals better than American remakes.

For example, if LUTHER ever got an American remake series, I would probably hate and loathe it.

I didn't feel like you were, I understood what you were saying :)

Amazing show, and Idris Elba is as impressive as ever.

Misfits is one of my favorite shows, but I really hope we get an American version. Although I know no actor they can find can ever play a better Nathan, at least we can have seasons last longer than 6 episodes.

America: Anything Britain can do, we can do it better. We can do it better than you.

Britain: No you can't!

America: Yes we can!

Hi,

As far as I am concerned, the British accent ( on some TV shows ) is hard to handle in the long run, I gave up on Misfit about it. I wouldn't mind a US version.
Being Human UK is better than the US version but I watch both.
