I'm looking forward to this! I enjoyed the book. I can't wait to see who else they cast.
HBO's adaptation of Gillian Flynn's Sharp Objects is coming together.
Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Patricia Clarkson has booked a starring role in the straight-to-series eight-episode drama, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Published in 2006, Sharp Objects centers on reporter Camille Preaker (Amy Adams) fresh from a brief stay at a psychiatric hospital who must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. Trying to put together a psychological puzzle from her past, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too closely.
Clarkson, who returns to HBO following her Emmy-winning turn in Six Feet Under, will play Adora Crellin, Camille's mother, queen of Wind Gap's highest society. She's haunted by the untimely passing of Camille's sister decades earlier, and her anxiety is manifested through an overbearing love and protection for her youngest, Amma (as yet uncast). The sudden return of her estranged daughter, Camille, provokes her subtle hostility that threatens Camilles sobriety and sanity.
Eliza Scanlen (Home and Away) is set for a lead role opposite Amy Adams in HBOs eight-episode drama series Sharp Objects, from Entertainment One.
Written by Marti Noxon based on the book by Gillian Flynn, Sharp Objects centers on reporter Camille Preaker (Adams). Fresh from a brief stay at a psychiatric hospital, Camille must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. Trying to put together a psychological puzzle from her past, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too closely. Scanlen will play Amma, the 13-year-old half-sister of Camille (Adams).
Having grown up in the small town of Wind Gap, Missouri, she lives a double life: as a restrained and girlish daughter when at home with her parents, and as a brash, impetuous teenager when out with friends.
Scanlen is known for her roles in Grace and Australian TV series Home and Away. Shes repped by Independent Management Company in Australia and Velocity Entertainment Partners in the U.S.
Adams is horrible casting but Clarkson is a great choice, I adore her
HQ didn't like ARRIVAL hence the reasoning. Considering she carried the movie to critical (8 Oscar noms including Best Picture) and financial acclaim it's a stupid reasoning. She also got some of her best personal reviews ever for it.
Also she was attached to Dark Places before she dropped out and Charlize Theron took over. That movie was so bad. Gillian Flynn obviously likes her. Flynn is also writing some of the episodes of the show.
Sharp Objects was in development hell since 2011 or something before Gone Girl ( the book) came out. It wouldn't have got HBO or JMV's involvement without Amy and would probably be there still.
Don't watch it, It's only 8 episodes (If its' a mini series). The only way you're screwed is if it's a drama series (Quite possible at the moment) and you get a second season.
Dark Places was garbage and Amy was attached to it but Charlize got her left overs LMAO. It's no going to be any worse than that adaption. Seeing as Flynn is also writing and Exec producing the show, it's will be semi decent at least.
Chris Messina is set as the male lead opposite Amy Adams in HBOs eight-episode drama series Sharp Objects, from Entertainment One and Blumhouse Television.
Messina will play Kansas City Detective Richard Willis, who is brought in to provide support to a small town Sheriff searching for the killer of a young girl. His investigation stalls until he meets Camille (Adams) who is covering the crime for a St. Louis paper. The lines between their professional and personal relationship are blurred as they try to solve this mystery.
Elizabeth Perkins and Madison Davenport (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series) are set to co-star opposite Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson in Sharp Objects.
Perkins will play Jackie, the local gossip and renowned alcoholic trashy, fun, big hair and big makeup. She knows shes a backwoods Barbie and has a sense of humor about it.
Davenport plays Meredith, a confident and sexy former high school cheerleader who strongly supports her boyfriend, who is a prime suspect in the murder of his younger sister.

On the Sharp Objects set.
Looks like she is gonna clean the town's toilets. And oh lord what is going on with her stomach?
That's more or less how I pictured Camille. Red hair, dresses in layers to hide her scars.
I pictured Camille like a southern belle gone dark, and pretty sure she was a brunette...certainly not a carrot mop here.
Shame she didn't play white trash in Dark Places she looks JUST like Libby should here. Except she plays whole different kind of role she is so ill suited for.
Taylor John Smith has been cast opposite Amy Adams in HBOs eight-episode drama series Sharp Objects, from Entertainment One and Blumhouse Television.
Smith will play John Keene, who has barely slept since the murder of his 13-year-old sister, Natalie. His sensitive and temperamental nature raises eyebrows and causes him to become a prime suspect in the murder investigation.
Resurrection alum Matt Craven has been cast opposite Amy Adams in HBOs eight-episode drama series Sharp Objects, from Entertainment One and Blumhouse Television.
Craven will play Vickery, police chief of the small Missouri town of Wind Gap. Attractive in a quiet way and broken in like a nice old pair of jeans, he is essentially mellow in temperament but is put out by the arrival of a St. Louis reporter and a Kansas City detective, there to investigate a series of murders in his seemingly quaint town.
In the book, she mentions that she recently dyed her hair red, and that her mother didn't notice. In my head, I never pictured Camille as overly sexy. I figured she would be insecure because of her scars and would likely dress to hide them. It's been a few years since I've read it though.
Nope, you're spot on. She hides her scars/cuts by covering up in those sort's of clothes.
When she and Richard have sex, she doesn't let him take off her clothes because she fears he'll see them and be repulsed by them.
For SHARP OBJECT fans: we air on HBO June 2018, and as you can see, the show is just as sweaty as the book!
