Just found out that the release date is April 5, 2019 which is a full 5 months after Aquaman and honestly I can get behind the month gap between films...similar approach to MCU

Yeah, Adam Brody and DJ Cotrona join the Shazam ! cast. Both were in George Miller's Justice League Mortal (as Flash and Superman.) So, they are back in a DC movie !

I suppose Brody is playing adult Freddie and Cotrona is playing adult version of Pedro, Ross Butler could be playing adult version of the character ( Eugene Choi) played by Ian Chen.

Brody is only one of five actors to have been secretly cast in a key role. He’ll reportedly join Michelle Borth (Hawaii Five-0), Ross Butler (13 Reasons Why), D. J. Cotrona (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series), and Meagan Good (Minority Report) as the film’s Shazam Family. While none of these castings have been confirmed by DC and New Line, it’s expected that Brody will play the adult Freddy Freeman, while Borth will play Mary, Butler will play Eugene, Cotrona will play Pedro, and Good will play Darla. the cast appears to have grown by five as the upcoming DCEU film has filled out its Marvel Family — or, as it was rebranded with The New 52, The Shazam Family.

....the New 52 origin of Shazam, DC had Billy Batson’s foster family shares in his magic, becoming adult superheroes alongside him. This is seemingly the case for the film version of the franchise.

Holy Moly! They did it! My favorite part of the story, Billy sharing the power with his new Family.

Sinestro Mark Strong training for the role of Dr. Sivana.

Love all the cast, love the costume, (that they didn't use blond Freddy), love the source material/story, both classic and new52 version they are using as the source material.
That humanized Billy, not born some impossibly perfect kid, but one who struggles, even lashes out, angry to belong to something a family again, for fear of losing them
Of course the story shows, it's what he wants all along is a family, and the desire to share with them, and belong to something bigger, very true to the classic character.

My biggest concern/hope now is they don't turn Dr. Sivana (Mark Strong) into a brawler character. While he has explored that to hysterical effects, He should ultimately be the science guy, manipulating things behind the scenes.
And that in their big reveal it's Teth Adam (Dwayne Johnson) who shows up at the end to nab the power!
Prompting Billy to "share" it with his family, and the final big fight is between them and (not Sivana) but Adam.

Maybe Hawaii Five-O are going to wish she was still a regular now. The show is a bit too much of a sausage fest with only one lead female. When she was on it as a regular before, at least there were 2 females. I don't see why they think there can only be 1 main one but lots of guys in the cast.

But their loss, Shazam's gain.

You all might have a limited frame of reference, and not going back far enough.
Try Big & Goonies meet Superheroes, with a hint of Harry Potter.

And even then the Shazamily and the Lieutenant Marvels predate all that anyway.
This is just an updated version of them.
