Shazam Shazam General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

Huh...kind of surprised at the response so far. I gotta admit I don't remember the first trailer much.

I get the Eminem song critique but it didn't bother me.

I like the vibe of the trailer, but I kind of hate the look of this film. It all looks so... mundane compared to the past few superhero movies. I was hoping for something a little more fantastical looking. Movie might still be good though.
I like that it looks non-stylized real world city. And the cinematography is looking fantastic to me.

Well this looks off the hook. I suspect there's gonna be kind of a jab at how this is Superman really was portrayed back in the day before he got all angsty.
I want DJ Cotrona to say something about Superman since he had the role back in the JLM days.

I feel like Sivana has become a stand in for Black Adam with the superpowers but still...cool to see.

My thoughts on Shazam!
-Zachary Levi is great casting
-Mark Strong always makes a great villain, but we know what to expect. Very generic/lazy casting, and I would have gone with a more classic/less physical interpretation of Sivana.
-The Shazam family should be limited to Shazam, Freddy, and Mary. This movie is doing too much, and it runs the risk of feeling silly in a bad way
-The kid playing Billy is too old. Should've cast younger if they wanted longevity. He's going to look like an adult by the time the movie comes out. Very shortsighted casting there.

Yeah, he's already 16. But they wanted to go with the New 52 version as opposed to a younger age I guess. One of the kids from IT feel like they're more in tune with the actual original comic age.

16? That was stupid. He seems like a good actor but I would have gone for 13 so he’d at least be believable if they make a sequel.

He's going to look like an adult for the sequel. There will be little difference between Shazam and Billy. So stupid. And imagine if they want Shazam for an eventual Justice League movie.

Not really, like I posted before Young Justice Billy is 17 and he transforms into the same version of Shazam. In Kingdom Come the same thing happens

Shazam will definitely be in a future Justice League film that much I know especially if Shazam is a hit at the box office which I am sure it will be

There are definitely more films in Billy's actor regarding his age and look at passing 15/16. Easily 2.

Kingdom Come is really not the best comparison to make for obvious reasons. Would’ve been much better to go the Harry Potter route, and go with a 10-11 year old for it. The kid is going to be 18+ before a sequel comes out, and the central premise of the character goes out the window once Billy is an adult. Shazam isn’t about a normal person being imbued with superpowers. It’s about a KID being imbued with superpowers. THAT’s the hook. But WB aren’t thinking about the bigger picture anymore, they’re focused on one film at a time. Let’s hope that approach works. Nobody can convince me that wasn’t shortsighted casting. It was. And comparisons to futuristic Elseworlds comics aren’t helping anything.

Bit of an underwhelming trailer this close to release. I like that they're holding things back, but they need to sell the conflict of the film more -- since they've already done a good job of selling the premise.

Just a heads up, there's an extended preview coming with the Aquaman DVD very soon. Tomorrow I think?

No I say it is fine the way it is that they are holding things back...I like this new approach DC films are taking because by holding back they can wow us with the end product like what Wan did with Aquaman...he held back and then low and behold Aquaman was a hit

His age doesnt matter it is how young he looks. Plenty of people in their twenties play younger and so will this kid. Plus planning for a sequel is stupid get the best actor for the role to play the part you dont know what the future holds when in regards to this film.

And FWIW most people look different at 20 than they do in their 30s anyways so they can still play off that.

Looks amazing.

Can't believe how good this looks - never expected this from Shazam!

I like that they've been keeping two elements from the movie under wraps so far.
