Shazam Shazam General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

That'd be one terrible set-up if his own impression ended up being bad. I really like the tone for this, along with the casting, so it's great to hear that there seems to be confidence for it.

I have to wonder, has there ever been a case of early embargo--> bad reviews? I know sometimes the opposite happens (It, Dunkirk, Mad Max Fury Road) but has this decision ever backfired on the studio?

I remember The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had a wave of poor-lukewarm buzz coming into its US release but I don't remember if that was due to an early embargo lift or its staggered international release.

Hmm. I'm not sure if I can watch this film in theatres. It's too soon after Captain Marvel and too near to Avengers End Game. I don't know if there's enough time for me, as there are only a few weeks between each film.

The Twitter embargo lifts today?

Can't wait until 6pm! Seems like a major hint to him loving the movie when he mentions why they're lifting the embargo so early.

Is Shazam gonna be released in China? I can't find anything about it. I'm worried.
If I''m being honest, I really don't think Shazam will do that well in the Middle Kingdom if it does get a release there. Its rather telling that Shazam! didn't make the China's most anticipated foreign film list. Even a Woody Allen film is more anticipated than Shazam! in China What the f**k? Joker also didn't make the list(though I expect that movie will not get a release in China if it is indeed R-rated). DC definitely is less popular than Marvel in that market though thankfully DC is still more popular than Star Wars since every DCEU film did better every Star Wars film released in that territory to date(notice that Episode IX also didn't make this list, lol).

Aquaman made bank there, sure, but its really the exception to the rule and that had more to do with factors outside the DC brand like James Wan is a very well known and respected director there and the movie was marketed heavily with his name on it. Aquaman also looked very visually appealing and matched up with China's cultural tastes.

Looking forward to seeing some reactions once I get home from Captain Marvel tonight

It's still early. China imports and schedules a certain amount of Hollywood films each year. I don't see why it wouldn't get a release there.

Pretty sure Cap Marvel and Avengers are the hold up for Shazam's Chinese date since Avengers will be released in China weeks after and the Film Commission probably wants to schedule Avengers before Shazam! since it's their biggest movie this year.

Offically rated PG-13 for action violence, language and some suggestive material.
