Am I the only one still being a bit cautious with these reactions? It seems like social media is always going to be at least a little more positive than the actual reviews.

Now granted, the fact that they are positive is a good sign, especially given the early embargo drop. But JL also had stronger social media reactions than reviews, and even though everything ended up being fine with Aquaman, it still got a little hairy there with the RT score despite some really positive initial tweets.

Your only being cautious that’s not a bad thing! i fully believe this movie is special. In the sea of big budget hero films...this one stands out as a smaller superhero film that feels HUGE thematically and with a ton of Heart and character! These kinds of movies stand the test of time ALWAYS! I would not be surprised if Shazam is the personal favorite superhero movie of the year come December

JL never had stronger nothing, Aquaman had fewer reactions and all normal. People need get their facts straight when make comparisons.

The only comparable is WW , including the way the doing the screenings. The difference is the embargo been lifted earlier here.

Idk, i've seen at least 4 people who haven't enjoyed these past DC films recently, praise the film. Perri is one of them, she hated BvS, AQ, MOS, SS & thought WW was just "Ok". Also that guy from Screen Junkies and Harloff who's in the same ballpark as Perri.

No, you're not. That's totally fine. I'm a bit cautious too even though I didn't show it.
But it seems to ended up in 'Fresh' category later and likeable which is already a good sign.
JL didn't get early reception this good and there were some uncertain reactions to Aquaman, which so far minimum for Shazam!.

If she hated Aquaman and thought that Wonder Woman was just an OK movie, then I have to say that not many people out there think like her. But it's good that she liked Shazam though.

Yeah, WB should have opened this movie in a slot where competition was not so cut-throat.

I think it's Easter around the world when Shazam comes out, might have a good period and make the most of it, hopefully.

I've went from being fairly indifferent ("I'm not a massive Shazam/Cpt Marvel fan", "the suit looks questionable in these paparazzi set shots", "this looks like it's going to be an incredibly cheesy comedy") to actually thinking this looks fantastic. And the twitter responses so far seem to back that up. I'll be in line with my ticket!

Justice League did have a stronger initial social media reaction than what the reviews ended up being. Were people not expecting the tomato meter to be in at least the 60s based on social media? And also for Aquaman- weren’t people a few months ago thinking it would hit 85+ based on social media, and were sweating it out when it was heading into the mid 60s?

I’m not saying it’s the same situation as either of these. Yes, the early embargo drop is a GREAT sign, and I’m liking the enthusiasm in the reactions so far. But the fact is, we have had situations in the recent past where social media reactions did overinflate our expectations for the reviews.

It’s true. JL reactions felt more like 60ish movie. Aquaman’s indicated 75%. At least AQM ended up being well received by the GA.

Initial reactions are always tough to use as a barometer. Initial reactions for Captain Marvel were pretty amazing too but reading full reviews seems like it is more mixed. (Haven’t seen it yet, so can’t judge)

As long as movie's quality is better than Suicide Squad (which is what most Critics reactions on twitter indicate), I'm not bothered.

I'm not going to be upset if it gets low RT score, Aquaman's RT rating didn't bother me. At this point, the norm is that majority of DC movies get low scores.. for whatever reason.

Many legit Critics have given positive tweets, so people will hold them accountable if they are building up false hype. Also, I refuse to believe WB has that many shills among Critics community.

I am not disagreeing just saying it will happen. Trolls cannot accept happiness because they are miserable humans

On the Devils Advocate side though many of these critics had similar reactions when the SM embargo lifted on Aquaman then wrote middling reviews. Social media posts can be like advanced clickbait where they make it seem positive to get the click then the tone of the review shifts in the review for RT.

I dont think that is happening here because I dont think this is the type of film that will garner that kind of needed bait and switch.

None of it matters to me because I only care what I think...but I can say every trailer or tv spot I show my GF has her pumped to see the film. She is a Harry Potter lover and she sees a lot of similarities. I think this movie might have some great legs because it has a family feel vibe to it.
