Shazam Shazam General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

These kind of reactions weve heard about CM too...and wasnt so FANTASTIC..was good but not fantastic...i think this apply here too...first reactions are "fantastic" and the movie will be just good

Idk, i've seen at least 4 people who haven't enjoyed these past DC films recently, praise the film. Perri is one of them, she hated BvS, AQ, MOS, SS & thought WW was just "Ok". Also that guy from Screen Junkies and Harloff who's in the same ballpark as Perri.

Hell even the nerd press will have a hard time walking back their reactions like some of them did with Aquaman. I think because this film is sort of that 80s family film vibe reviewers arent going to be as nitpicky with things.

WB wouldnt risk such an early reviewer embargo lifting if they didnt know they had a fresh rating in the bag. My guess is the test audiences all loved the charm and the kids and WB assumes that couple with the fact that the film isnt overtly dark or a CGI slugfest (like many of these films are) puts them at little risk of reviewers burning the film to the ground. Reviewers seem way kinder to cheese than they are to navel gazing these days unless you are a top name director.

And btw I hope EVERY review mentions it being cheesy...that will be music to my ears. Shazam is "THE BIG RED CHEESE"! The character has always worked best that way because of who he is! He isnt dark and brooding he is a friggin kid with superpowers! One of his best friends was a talking tiger! One of his villains was a worm! The whole concept is cheese and it is why people love it :)

Still don't get Critics who gave positive tweets for Aquaman, ultimately turned their back on the movie and gave it a Rotten Tomato, but whatever.

I didn't get a Shazam trailer before captain marvel got that dark phoenix one though :barf:

I'm hyped for this film.

Edit: As far as reviewers go, I think the thing is we hear from those who love it initially, the people who are more lukewarm or negative usually stay quite early on. I'm seeing a lot of the same names here I saw for Captain Marvels early reactions buzz.

This pic is now legit.
A step closer to the DC holiness.

This is amazing. :funny:

Actually there were a few (cant remember who) who flip flopped or who gave tweets not unlike these but then the review was like 3 out of 5. We could speculate why but the truth is it doesnt matter.

I have thought for a while that if the film isnt a trainwreck of a story it could be damned near critic proof because it is family oriented and I think that is playing out here. WB feels zero pressure anyways because the budget was manageable. If this does Antman style numbers they will be dancing in the streets.

Glad to see the positive reactions. Hopefully the reviews will be strong too! Really enjoyed Levi on Mrs. Maisel and I'm glad to see he's getting positive reactions here.

That was some avalanche of accolades last night. Wonderful. I was sold before the first trailer ended. Three hit origin films in a row. Hamada's steering the ship now and he's looking good.

I was under the impression this was a Shazam thread, not a "critics secretly hate Captain Marvel", the MCU one of course...
Please, please stop with the conspiracy theories and stay on topic, some wisdom of Solomon is never a bad thing.

Wise words. :)

I hope DC rides the momentum train still and this universe keeps building the right way similarly to Marvel because with Shazam being a hit then not only do we get Shazam sequels but we get more and more characters being introduced into the DCEU
