Perhaps some things that they didn't expect from what's seemingly a very light-hearted superhero movie with young cast members. Scary because of horror elements, I assume.

Yeah we’ve seen “the best dc movie since The Dark Knight” many times before. Regardless, so far Shazam looks to be on par with Wonder Woman as far as critical reception goes. Let’s hope so.

Not to burst your bubble but people have posted this about literally every movie since MOS. People are hyperbolic on the interwebs.

Note: that has nothing to do with the fact that everyone seems to be praising this film just saying it happens every film.

This is a fair point though something tells me this film is going to be special. Having read through a lot of the DC movies critics social media reactions through the years this is easily the most effusive reactions I’ve ever seen for the DCEU. Even with WW, I do remember there was some mixed-to-positive reactions - so far for this it’s been very positive. Even critics who who generally don’t like superhero films are quite positive on it. Not to mention Warners broke the social medial embargo for this a month early. Warners hasn’t done that before for these movies, not even for WW.

I saw an early screening here in MN as well. I thought it was pretty fun. Crowd reaction was pretty positive, but it also was full of fans/nerds like myself.

I agree. There is something different about the reaction to this film. Usually there is some qualification for the positivity (like with WW and the 3rd act or Aquaman and the weak script...etc) but with this one it seems that there is nothing BUT the positive vibes and it is awesome to see! The tweets are seeing is what many of us were saying the reaction would be if they got the tone of the character right. This is unlike anything that has come out and it is hitting at a time when things like Stranger Things are blowing up.

I am not sure even 10 years ago this would have been accepted the way it seems it will be...but it seems the fans wanted this even if they didnt know they did. The international trailer (especially the scene with the boy and the dolls) is perfection!

Still waiting for negative comments about Shazam, but nothing yet not even Ehrlich. It will be higher than WW for now.

Yeah. So for we only got positive reviews, and most of them saying it's amazing. This is different, and it it's surprising me a lot.

I'll be that guy... This is unabashedly "funny". For a variety of reasons that I find annoying to no end, a super hero movies barring characters like Batman, Capt. America and Black Panther, if there's not a scrip chock full of broad humor/comedy it's somehow illegitimate as a super hero film.

Which... I don't get because as a comic book collector for most of my life I never once said, "Man... Can't wait until the next issue of Thor/Green Lantern/Flash/Wonder Woman/Superman/X-men/ Avengers/Iron Man/Teen Titans etc., etc., etc. because it's gonna be SO funny."

In this case... Having it be full of humor works for this character. Shazam was always a bit more goofy than say Superman. The concept lends itself to funny moments and with a modern day kid as Billy being transformed the laughs practically write themselves.

At least Shazam adds comedic factor to the DCEU much like Ant Man did for the MCU but Shazam is relatable in the sense that Peter Parker/Spidey is in the sense of both being teenagers but the fact that Billy is in the group home/foster care system is why I can identify the most with him

I read the description of a scene with Sivana (I don't know if it's true but it sounded legit) that reminded me of Doc Ock hospital scene in Spider-Man 2. And the violence sounds like it's gonna be Venom's PG-13 tier. They probably made the Seven Deadly Sins look pretty scary, so that must be it.

This one is interesting to me because if you look at his previous tweet, it looks like he went in ready to hate it, he hated the "Fortnite superhero" impression he had about it, and then after he saw it he actually liked it a lot.
