Shazam Shazam General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

WB needs to step-up the marketing for this movie, Captain Marvel was marketed much better than this.
I think they have. The early review embargo lift accompanied by the advance screenings tells me they are gonna start with natural word-of-mouth to hype it up. I'm expecting more in the coming weeks.

Yeah word of mouth marketing is gonna do wonders.

So, pretty violent then.
Somebody died in the very first scene of Jurassic Park.

The violence is what you should expect from a PG-13 film, however there is one moment in the film
Where one of the deadly sins bites off an executive's head before throwing her headless corpse through a window
that might be a little intense for a kid under 10 depending on what their sensibilities are. My kids watch horror flicks like cartoons so I'm not sure.

That and the part with the
assistant getting dusted
was really unexpected in a good way. I'm glad they try to push the envelope.

There were loads of kids at my screening yesterday, and none of them screamed, cried, or had to leave because of the violence. That is obviously anecdotal and doesn't necessarily mean it's not "too" violent, but it seemed fine to me. Aslan jumps Jadis and eats her in The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, and there are some pretty graphic scenes in that kids' movie too. Ultimately, it's all subjective; every adult should know themselves and the children they take to the film and know whether they can handle it or not.

While I agree that the PG-13 rating is for something, it depends on the kid (I'm yet to watch the movie).
If the kid is still getting nightmares then it's wise not to bring them. But I know there are kids out there who could handle scary stuff even if they're under 13.
Heck I heard IT screenings surprisingly were packed with kids under 13 as well, and it was very popular movie among them.
For us, just choose wisely based on personal knowledge of the kids and be responsible.

I agree, however was there anything in any of the ads or trailers that would let a parent believe there's any dark violence going on? (Again, I aim to watch as little material as possible so maybe there was.) Based on what I did see, a kid gets superpowers and has to learn to be a hero with help from his friend, spends time doing goofy Fortnite dances and drinking beer. I could see a parent walking in with a misunderstanding that this would be okay for a kid who isn'tused to horror. You expect a little horror element from the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe since it takes place in a fantasy world of dark creatures.

The kids sitting next to me at my screening did get scared, they screamed and covered there ears and looked away a few times. Otherwise I think they enjoyed it. It's good for kids to see movies like this IMO. Anything that elicits emotion like that in kids, I think engages them more. So, all good.

The PG-13 rating is a pretty obvious indicator that most parents would note, correct?

I need a Justice League 2 movie with Levi's Shazam on the team asap. I could only imagine the banter with him, Gal, Mamoa, Ezra and Cavill (hoping he stays onboard even though he wont).

After few "successful DCEU movies" Cavill might reconsider his stance. :o

I would be surprised if we see Cavill and Ezra again

With the Black Adam possibly introducing the Justice Society of America, that could be our next big teamup movie

Not necessarily. PG-13 comes in all shapes. Ant-man and the Wasp is PG-13 and I had zero expectations of
people getting their heads bitten off by monsters
based on the trailers. Same with Shazam.

But yes, parents need to be diligent and mindful. Research films before you take your kids.

It may not be his choice anymore. His agent really screwed him over.
Well, Black Adam movie has high chance of getting made and Dwayne Johnson's agent is same as Cavill's agent (Rock's ex-wife), so there's some possibility for Cavill to come back, if he wants to.

I don’t know if The Rock is a good fit with the fun cheesy vibe of Shazam. I have nothing against him (I like his presence in certain movies) but I hope his busy schedule keeps him away from the DCU.

Fun and cheesy is not a problem for The Rock i.e. Fast and Furious and Jumanji lol

I’m still not sold on him. I like the guy, but he’s comfortable playing 2 types of action guys.

Is that from a video game? I agree his costume is awesome and could look amazing in a film. As long as they do Jaime Reyes and not Ted Kord. I think the only comic I ever enjoyed Kord in was the one where he got his head blown off, lol.

That's from Injustice 2. He was a playable character in that game and had his own chapter (with Firestorm) during storymode. He was a pretty popular addition.

And I agree Jaime needs to be on the big screen asap! Especially hearing how they nailed Shazam!
