Thanks, but I saw someone else suggested this actor on the boards before me. And while he looks the part, I'd prefer someone who can act over a stone-faced lookalike.
yay @ someone who actually takes acting ability into consideration rather than finding a random idiot who looks the part but can't act and claiming he's perfect.
To tell you guys the truth though, if you want to come up with serious suggestions, I would suggest to YOU to look at more well known actors rather unknown and/or TV actors. If watching superhero movies has taught me anything it's that if the hero is unknown to the general public, they aren't going to pick an actor that, too, is unknown to the general public. Either the hero is unknown, or the actor is, but it can't be both*. Since Captain Marvel has been out of the public eye for so long he now falls into more of the unknown category.
Okay, so stay with my logic for a bit longer... Now that we've established that a known actor should be in the leading role, we can further split the remaining actors in what I consider the two type of A-listers:
1.) the famous "faces" type: Though these actors may be very talented, they've been ****ed out so much that they are more known for their faces, rather than their acting ability, and they are generally given roles just because of how well known they are, rather than their acting ability to a point where they pretty much end up just playing themselves playing a role, rather than playing the role itself. These include people like George Clooney, Ben Affleck, Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie, etc...
2.) the pure talent talent type: These are the actors who are very well known but more so for their acting ability rather than just having a movie star face, and are more likely to have won awards for their acting than the previous type. People like Robert Downey, Jr., Terrence Howard and Jake Gyllenhaal would belong to this type.
So the idea is to choose actors who fit more into type 2, than type 1. Someone who would make people say: "Hmm, that's actually not a bad idea (Like when Robert Downey, Jr. was cast as Iron Man)" rather than: "Ugh, not him again! (Like when Tom Cruise was rumoured for Iron Man) Also consider the tone of the movie when thinking of an appropriate actor, because the choices for a an action movie are going to be different than for a comedy, but since this movie has a comedy-centric driector and a writer known for slightly more serious work, my guess is as good as anyone's at this point.
Of course physical characteristics are also important, but you don't want to dwell on them too much or you might miss out on a great, and interesting choice. Rather than just focusing on people who look nearly identical to the character, instead look for people who have the same general style about them. For instance, none of the Bond actors look quite the same as each other, but they all fit the role by having the same "tall, dark, and handsome" aura about them.
The last few things to remember when considering physical traits are that eye colour doesn't matter at all, hair colour matters very little (hair can be dyed, or even left as is depending on the character in question) Weight doesn't matter much at all as an actor can gain or lose weight depending on what the role calls for (Christain Bale had lost 65 pounds for a prior role, and then literally had to work out and gain back like 100 pounds for his role in Batman). Finally, remember that Comic book characters have exaggerated statures making them all like 6'7" and impossibly muscular, but the key word here is EXAGGERATED. As long as the actor is about average height he should be fine.
With that said, can anyone think of any good actors who would fit the above criteria? to be honest I'm pretty much drawing a blank right now, but I do think Jake Gyllenhaal would still be a good choice, and I hope he's at least considered when they get to casting the role
*There's actually one way to get an unknown actor in an unknown role, but that means the rest of the supporting cast would have to be more widely known A-list actors instead.
