I really enjoyed the first one, and this looks to be even better than the first. Can't wait! :woot:

Official Synopsis.

Robert Downey Jr. reprises his role as the world’s most famous detective, Sherlock Holmes, and Jude Law returns as his formidable colleague, Dr. Watson, in “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.”

Sherlock Holmes has always been the smartest man in the room…until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large—Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris)—and not only is he Holmes’ intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective.

When the Crown Prince of Austria is found dead, the evidence, as construed by Inspector Lestrade (Eddie Marsan), points to suicide. But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder—a murder that is only one piece of a larger and much more portentous puzzle, designed by one Professor Moriarty.

Mixing business with pleasure, Holmes tracks the clues to an underground gentlemen’s club, where he and his brother, Mycroft Holmes (Stephen Fry) are toasting Dr. Watson on his last night of bachelorhood. It is there that Holmes encounters Sim (Noomi Rapace), a Gypsy fortune teller, who sees more than she is telling and whose unwitting involvement in the prince’s murder makes her the killer’s next target. Holmes barely manages to save her life and, in return, she reluctantly agrees to help him.

The investigation becomes ever more dangerous as it leads Holmes, Watson and Sim across the continent, from England to France to Germany and finally to Switzerland. But the cunning Moriarty is always one step ahead as he spins a web of death and destruction—all part of a greater plan that, if he succeeds, will change the course of history.

Filmmaker Guy Ritchie returns to direct “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” the follow-up to the smash hit “Sherlock Holmes.” The sequel also reunites producers Joel Silver, Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey and Dan Lin. Bruce Berman serves as executive producer, with Steve Clark-Hall co-producing.

Jared Harris (TV’s “Mad Men,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”) joins the cast as the notorious Professor Moriarty. Also joining the cast, in her first English-speaking role, is Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, who gained international attention in the Swedish film “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” Stephen Fry (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”) plays Mycroft Holmes, Sherlock’s older brother.

Additional cast members returning from the first film include Eddie Marsan as Inspector Lestrade; Kelly Reilly as Watson’s bride, Mary Morstan; and Geraldine James as Holmes’s long-suffering landlady, Mrs. Hudson. “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” is written by Michele Mulroney & Kieran Mulroney. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson were created by the late Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and appear in stories and novels by him.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, a Silver Pictures Production, in association with Wigram Productions, a Guy Ritchie Film, “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.”

The film will be distributed worldwide beginning December 16, 2011, by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.

He's the guy who does the audiobooks. Unless he has a role in a Potter movie I'm forgetting. Cameo maybe?

I know he did the British audiobooks. But, if that is what he is being credited for, why did they just choose a random book?

Yeah, it looks like fun. Downey being in something automatically makes it fun as of late though.

So I wonder if the classic showdown at Reichenbach Falls will take place in this movie.

^^ I hope it does. In fact, while I found the first film fun and amusing, it lacked in having a plot that the audience could attempt to deduce themselves and a villain that had real presence. I want Moriarty to be one that is well remembered after the credits roll.

It looks fun and seems that they may prevent WWI from starting at the end of the 19th century in this movie. The selling point, again, is the great chemistry/bromance between Downey's Holmes and Law's Watson. Noomi Rapace also automatically makes any movie better and seems to already be an improvement over Rachel McAdams's performance--which is too bad because I like her in most everything else and Irene Adler had such potential given her gravitas in the short story.

Anyway, it looks fun.

Good trailer. Loved the first one and I can't wait for this one!

I think it will be. If I remember correctly, Downey Jr. said something about filming in Switzerland.

The trailer is awesome. Looks like a lot of fun!

Almost forgot the sequel was coming out this year. It looks good and the battle scenes were surprising.

hope its as clever as the first. Can't tell from the trailer but then I couldn't tell about the first either.

i see more action which just shows that WB is not cheap like other studios. hmmmm Fox or maybe Marvel? WB made a lot of money so they spend a lot more money on the sequel.

the trailer of course makes this movie look the same like the first movie. different girl and different villain.they are even using the slow motion action scenes and how Sherlock is using hes brain bla bla bla. which is not a problem. i will watch this movie for RDJ and Law. they made the first movie. and i think even if the script is bad in the sequel i think Law and RDJ will save the movie.

Rapace's english is fantastic compared to her Charlie Rose interview.

Was there ever a reason given for why they did so?

I told you yesterday that they re-shot the scene to get a different joke or feel from the scene and I believe I was wrong. I was setting here watching the movie, and when I got to that scene I examined it very well and I noticed something interesting. When Holme's is beginning to feel the effects of the drugs Irene put in the wine there is a quick flash of her putting the drugs in the wine. When it flashes to a close-up of her face her hair is up and if you look at her left shoulder you can see the lace from the corset she was wearing in the original scene shown in the trailers. I believe it was originally longer scene. I think I remember hearing about the scene being longer, also. I don't think it was re-shot so much as paired down. Just wanted to update my original thoughts on the scene.

Looks pretty good the first film was very entertaining and i cant wait to see Noomi Rapace
in a different role.

^^ I hope it does. In fact, while I found the first film fun and amusing, it lacked in having a plot that the audience could attempt to deduce themselves
.

I think was done n purpose. In the books, most of the mysteries are impossible for the reader to figure out unless he or she specializes in powerful lateral thinking. Its meant to highlight, Sherlock Holmes extreme genius.

As for the trailer, I think it feels too much like the first movie. Everything feels a bit dull and tired even the trailer music but this is probably how the trailer was cut more than anything. Sherlock in drag is highly amusing.

One slight nitpick, I don't like how Moriarty seems to be out in the open. I've always pictured Moriarty as someone who lives in the shadows, unnoticed by anyone. You could walk past him in the street and not even register his presence. This is what I think the first film did so well with Moriarty. They made him mysterious which made him an effective villain.

The trailer seems to be playing up the film as a straight up action comedy rather than a Sherlock Holmes movie like the trailers for the first film did. I doubt the film will be as much of an action comedy as the trailers show though, considering the first film wasn't.

Everything is looking fantastic so far. The plot sound good, the action scenes look nice and the chemistry between RDJ and Jude looks better than ever. I hope we will see the famous Reichanbach Falls scene. That would be fantastic.

I also like the whole battle of wits angle between Moriarty and Holmes. That will be really entertaining to see. I was worried about the new writers but it seems like they're doing a good job at the moment. The characters seem in character from what I can see. Hopefully that will be true fo the final film.

My only concern is that they will reuse too much from the first film. Hopefully they won't.

We saw him in just one scene but I've got a good feeling that Harris will do just sublime in the role of Moriarty and Rapace is a wonderful addition to the movie, her English is also good by the way. I'd have like to see Stephen Fry in the trailer but we'll get that later down the line.

Loved the trailer, hope its an improvement over the first which I enjoyed but at the same time was a little dissapointed with on repeat viewings.

Great trailer, it looks as much fun as the first one. I can't wait to see Downey Jr. and Law together again, the chemistry between them is excellent.
