Warner Bros. Pictures is teaming with producer Lionel Wigram to adapt Wigram's upcoming comic book Sherlock Holmes for the big screen. Neil Marshall (The Descent) will direct, while screenwriter Michael Johnson penned the script for the action-adventure.

"Sherlock" is expected to be Marshall's next directing project, as the studio is eager to push ahead, says Variety. Helmer is currently filming Doomsday for Rogue Pictures.

The trade says the exact storyline is being kept under wraps, but creative executives at Warners say they are looking for the "Sherlock" team to reinvent the sleuth and his loyal No. 2 Dr. Watson in much the same edgy way that Christopher Nolan has reimagined Batman for the studio.

Wigram's vision has Holmes losing some of his Victorian stuffiness and being more adventuresome, including playing up his skills as a bare-knuckle boxer and expert swordsman as he goes about solving crimes.

So, we're looking at something like the reimagined Van Helsing? An Indiana Jones type?

Sounds stupid to me, but I'll wait for further news before I make up my mind.
I have been wanting a new high quality production "Sherlock Holmes"-movie for a long time now.

I love Sherlock Holmes(own all the books)and i'd love a straight up adaption with a fresh story but keeping his personality in tact and the movie as a detective mystery as opposed to action film......still this re-imagining may well be fun.

Sounds bogus. The Victorian hero won't act like a Victorian gentleman? I've seen some BBC series where he's more emotional, but that was passable. They should just revive "The Avengers" again.

As long as they keep that max head room tit away from this ile be happy.

Richard roxburgh made a decent Holmes.

Do you have any of the dozens of Holme's pastiches that have been put out over the years? One of my favorites is where Holmes and professor Challenger are put into H.G.Well's "War of the Worlds".

I love Holmes material...and would be interested in seeing any new movie based upon his character.

No ive never read any of those, ive only read the Conan Doyle works but i have seen many takes on film of the character and most offer something so like you i am intrigued where they go with this and a i like Neil Marshal last film so he seems a solid choice to direct.

Did you see the couple of movies where Christopher Lee plays an older Holmes?

I haven;t seen those,i did like the recent Rupert Everett version and the Matt Frewer one was ok.

When you think about the original movie versions with Rathbone were a re-imagining with the character involved in stories set in WWII

I haven't seen the Rupert Everett version anywhere....I bought a DVD of the Frewer movies (I think it was 4 of them)...but my brother borrowed it and I haven't had a chance to see it yet.

Have you ever seen George C. Scott in "They Might be Giants"....set in modern day, he's a man who has lost touch with reality, thinks he is Holmes, and that Moriarity is behind a vast plot to prove him insane.

everett did a good job..but Roxburgh was better.. max headroom as Sherlock makes me shudder..

make you wish jeremy brett was alive and young to play holmes again.

I haven't seen Roxburgh play him either.

Peter Cushing and Christopher Plummer were very good. I didn't like Roger Moore's portrayal (a lot due to no physical resemblence to the accepted norm).....I have the complete TV series starring Coleman....I've watched a few so far, and they are pretty good.

I am a huge sherlock fan. I have to admit that I'm afraid. reimagining almost never works out well.

Damn that sounds good, ive not seen that either,i do recall one that ended up in Scotland where the Loch Ness monster was discovered as a cover for a submarine operation by the British government that was fun.

You should pick up the Jeremy Brett series'.he was the best and truest to the books IMO

That was "The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes...Chris Lee played his brother Mycroft in it (Lee has been Sherlock, Mycroft, and Lord Baskerville in various Holmes movies).

I would love to get those.....but I'm waiting on my first million dollars to arrive....there many many DVDs I want.

Neil Marshall to me is a strange choice for a director, he's been pretty succesful so far with action/horrors, and unless he's going to bring something similar to this reimagining, it may be quite a slow down in pace for him.

I can honestly say I was a big fan of Young Sherlock Holmes, the effects were pretty damn good for it's time.

Could be cool

Could suck

its way to early to tell, but one thing is forsure Sherlock Homles could very easily make a great detective movie, I hope they don't go super slueth on the bit though

sounds like a neat idea... if they have some really cool sword fights and combine them with smartly written victorian dry wit then that would be cool... I just hope there's a sense of excitement at the edge of one's seat sort of deal... but not done over the top or with stupid lame corny humor... If this is smartly written then it could be great.

Has anyone placed 221B Baker Street, the passport board game? It's so so cool and there are tons of stories and mysteries they could adapt from there.

My guess is that they'll try to modernize him and bring his story to present day. That's just my take on what the word "reimagining" could mean.
