shooting at an oregon community college, at least 10 dead

There are unconfirmed reports that the shooter was specifically targeting Christians. So this may be religiously motivated.

Oh god no. The right-wing nuts are going to have a field day with this one.

Obama did allude to gun confiscation in his speech (when he referenced Australia), which I thought was interesting. Can't recall if a president has ever done that before or even acknowledged it as an option.

Goddamn. another shooting. Nothing will be done about it... Nothing at all against Obama, any president would do the same thing, but thanks for writing a 12 minute speech. Shut the **** up and do something about it.

His 12 minute speech still beats those crossing their arms, turning their noses up at you and declaring their devotion to the second amendment.

Well, he can't do much of anything if Congress doesn't want to pass any laws or have any legitimate conversations about the topic.

The problem is the 2nd Amendment, because it really stops anything that can be done regarding gun control laws. But while I think there should be stricter gun control, I also think there are other factors contributing to it such as mental illness, and the fact is that as a nation America refused to do anything to curtail these mass shootings.

I'm reading that online too, but one site (Dailymail uk) says the shooter would open fire on his victims regardless of how they answered when he questioned their religion.

I wonder why he was questioning their religion at all then (if true)?

New York Post says if the victim said they were some other religion, he shot them in the leg. If they said "Christian" he shot them in the head.

Of course, this thing just happened so it will take a few days to separate rumor from fact.

Local news just confirmed from a press conference that the shooter had 3 handguns and 1 AR-style rifle.

It's not an option. It would be in direct violation of the Second Amendment.

It may have been a spur of the moment thing to make the families feel better.

Did this college have armed officers on security?

Strange. I figured a college would have armed officers on hand. Even if it wouldn't have averted the tragedy, there's a chance they could have subdued the shooter early on. What's the protocol for following up on threats like that one from the anonymous boards they're linking to the shooting? I would imagine those places are under tight monitoring.

Yeah, if Christians were being targeted and it turns out the guy was another religion or agnostic or athiest..... it's about to get much more ugly.

CNN says the guy may have been on 4chan and that other posters were daring him to do this, if it is in fact the same one.

Apparently the 4chan guy who threatened with a shooting yesterday isn't the gunman. I wonder what's the procedure with that now. With him and the idiots who were offering tips.

The UK's Telegraph had this to say:

You remember the suspicion that the gunman had boasted of his plans on 4chan on Wednesday, posting an online warning to students to stay away from "school" in the northwest on Thursday? Well two news organisations say they have now tracked the poster down. He is very much still alive and apparently not the shooter. Will other social media connections turn up later?

Right now info must be coming in a little confusing and contradictory, so maybe it is him after all.

Supposedly the shooters at Columbine asked their victims what religion they believed in. Maybe this shooter was just copying them.

I thought that was just a myth about Columbine.

I thought that was just a myth about Columbine.

It may be. Ive never heard one way or the other. Myth or not, if this shooter heard or read about that then that could have given him the idea to ask the victims that.
