I don't give a crap if he's American, he just needs to LOOK American. It's a movie, people.

My opinion on this: Captain America should be played by an American actor.

The name is Captain-America, he represents American value more clearly than Superman. Some of you will say “well what actors do is acting”. Oh yeah, tell that the James Bond franchise – why can’t an American actor be a James Bond? James Bond doesn’t spell like James “Captain Britain” Bond, while Captain America is Captain America.

Tell you what, I rather see a black all-American Steve Rogers (perhaps a film on Patriot), than an Australian Steve Rogers. If there's an exhaustive search on the American actors and proficient candidate is not found, then Marvel can go for the foreign actors. But before that, an American should be searched for Cap.

To sum up, check first:
Matt Damon
Brad Pitt
Mark Valley <-- New Yorker, like Cap
Aaron Eckhart

Then:
Clive Owen
Gerald Butler
Sean Bean
Hugh Grant

We could have an african-american Capt. mentioned briefly during a series of scenes/shots/mentions of the govt. and all trying to recreate the Super Soldier Serum..that'd be fun. n.n

I think Matthew Mcconaughey would make a great Cap.

He's been working out, so he's got the build for it, and with his down home Texas accent he's about as American as you can get.

Not saying that Matt can't do it, but Steve Rogers is a New Yorker. He has a NY Irish accent.

Scotland is a part of UK. MI6 is an intelligence agency for the UK, not just England. ANZ people are more less bred under the British Commonwealth culture.

Of all the James Bond actors who have less exposure to British acting school is George Lazenby. We know how his career as James Bond fared.

and James Bond is ENGLISH

but only 30% of the actors who have played him have been english.

i dont see the issue. if they can do the accenmt so its natural (like Gary Oldman does, although there are very few actors as good as him, if any) then i dont see the problem.

ANZ/Scots/Irish/Welsh -> English

is a less divide to cross than

British & Commonwealth -> America

ANZ -> Commonwealth countries. You know who's head of the Commonwealth, Britain which supposed to be an English yoke Empire. They like the queen's ass sitting on their head, figuratively speaking.
Scots -> Not even a country per se. Part of Britain.
Welsh -> Idem.
Irish -> Used to be part of Britain.

Compared to:

America -> A proud big country across the Atlantic pond who kicked English butt forever in the 19th century. They say they have their own culture and anyway unlike most of those above in World War II, they follow their own army to fight Germany.

Research those James Bond actors anywhere in the internet, and you'll see they have schooled one way or another in British, cough, English acting schools. James Bond is not even says "Captain Britain". That means lay people who are not accustomed to James Bond don't even know Bond is British or let alone, English. On the other hand, Captain America spells "Captain-America". He's from America isn't it - well what most people don't know that he's from New York instead of Southern states. :)

you reallyu dont know what you are talking about, do you?

Just because the English invaded and conqured the scots and the welsh, and PART of Ireland, doesntr make them less of a seperate nation.

run off and study some history, cos if you tell a scot or a welshman they dont really have a country, you might have a wee row on yer hands.

I don't care how diverse Welsh or Scots from English, but if you want to equate with how diverse Americans and say Englishman - it just doesn't compare. Does Scotland have a seat in the UN? Do Welsh can say "Kiss my arse, Queen" merrily on the street?

It would be strange hearing about a foreigner playing Captain America. I suppose a foreign actor would be capable and look good in the costume, but for there to be proper subtleties to the character he would have to be American.

JK Rowling demands the actors in the Harry Potter films all be from the UK. I don't hear anyone complaining to her about that decision.

I demand the actor who portrays Captain America be an American. The only reason a foreign actor should be considered for Caps is if they can't find an American actor to do so, and as many american born actors there are, I'm sure at least one of them could make a good Cap.

don't forget ms . rowling is the creator and owner of harry potter she'd have the contracts give her that aproval:ninja:

Yes..but a good one.Marvel has been cheap with their films,and most have been failures as a result.

I'd go upto 35 for Cap...but no higher.

25-34 is my prefered range for Cap.

Yes, I think they should cast an unknown, relatively young American actor. Therefore no Brad Pitt or Matt Damon. Somebody fresh out of acting school, or almost, who could grow into the role, would be nice.

Actually, Bond is British, but half Swiss from his mother (and his father is Scottish). They always wanted to prirotize British actors for the role of 007, or members of Commonwealth.

So if an American actor played Bond, that wouldn't cause major outrage? George Clooney as the next Bond?

What about a Yank playing Doctor Who? Yeah I'm sure the Brits would take that one lying down.

It's not an end-all, but yeah, It'd be nice to have an American Captain America.

Lol. :woot:

^ That guy looks like Obadiah Stane in that first pic.

Personally, it doesn't really matter, as long as the actor can portray an American 100%, but it would be a priority casting-wise.
