Should Dc follow the marvel formula instead of the Nolan Formula.Should they make their movies loose the serious tone and go full out marvel?

The problem is that try 3 times and failed. batman and robin, green lantern and superman returns..

I think they should use whichever tone best suits the particular comic book they're adapting: the tone of the Nolan films, for example worked for Batman but it wouldn't necessarily be a suitable tone for every other CBM that WB releases. Marvel knows this which is why TWS and Guardians of the Galaxy had polar opposite tones.

I think they should stick with what they've started, but if we were to rewind the clock to before Man of Steel and say what approach they should take, there's something to be said for providing an alternative, finding their own niche. There's been talk around here about audience fatigue, and even if that doesn't exist, even if it won't exist in the next few years as output increases, I don't think it would help matters any for all of the studios to take the same approach.

They should just try to make good movies instead of trying to copy other movies' tones or formulas.

Key is diversity. I would prefer they try to NOT emulate Marvel's style.

It's not about the tone, it's about the quality of the movies. Just produce good movies then whatever tone they choose will be perfect.

Look at Batman Begins and TDK. Two high quality movies with a tone suited for them. TDKR and MOS used the same tone, but the quality was subpar, so the whole movies fell apart.

As long as WB is at least trying to make quality movies, I'm fine with it and on their side. Just remove Snyder for someone with a little more filmmaking skills who can produce high quality movies and their Superman films can be as gritty and grounded and unsupermany as they want.

That said, I'm curious about the line up, hoping that out of the 10 movies they announced at least 4 of them won't be Batman movies. Which raises the questions which characters will get solo movies, who will provide the scripts and who will direct it

If a lighter tone means humor that isn't funny then god no count me out

But I don't see why all DC movies need the same tone and I am sure there are going to be different tones throughout

Yes, they should. The tone that works for Batman doesn't really work for anyone else in the DCU.

They won't, however. Not unless SvB bombs, and probably not even then.

It's really difficult to talk about this because you got one camp saying MOS was terrible and another saying it was great. Me saying your wrong is pointless.

I say MOS was great.

Now follow the Marvel formula? Um what is it actually? Captain America WS, Iron Man 3, Thor 2, and The Incredible Hulk were all very serious movies.

MOS? I felt had the tone of a legend. This is the Legend of Superman. Yes they ground the world but why is that a sin?

DC hasn't even really set the tone. We just had MOS. Also Nolan isn't righting the other films so they are really up to how the writers make them.

"batman and robin, green lantern and superman returns."

This means absolutely nothing. Three different writers, directors, and tones. Of course the problem with the first was studio mandates. GL was just a mess of a plot. Rushed film through and through. Returns was made by a man who didn't want to make a Superman movie. He wanted to make a sequel to Richard Donners flick.

Nope! Why watch the exact same four movies every year? Why not have two Marvel style pop summer fun blockbusters and two sombre DC epics?

I loved TDKR and MoS warts and all. The problems lay in their scripts, not in their tone. But if DC puts out that style of superhero movie all the time, I'll never get sick of it.

No, sudden change of tone didn't help the ASM2 series.

and Green Lantern shows they haven't exactly mastered light-hearted superhero material.

I'm crazy about the Nolan Batman movies, but I don't want all of the WB/DC movies to insist on being as heavy and ponderous as those films. I like Man of Steel a lot, but I don't want every WB/DC movie to have the tone of MoS. Let's remember, the Marvel movies don't all have the same tone or energy, and the DC movies shouldn't either. If the WB/DC movies are more "serious" than the Marvel ones, that's fine, but they can't all feel the same.

This. There is no reason WB can't embrace the science-fantasy of the comics while having characters give plausible reactions to the outlandish villains and plots. The tone of MOS wasn't the problem. It was the dialogue.

These. Exactly.

*sigh*

That's not to say DC films should be completely humourless. The drone scene at end of MoS was pretty funny. Nolan's Batman films had plenty of humour too.

Funniest scene, for me, was in TDK. Gambol says something like, "You think you can walk in here and steal from us?" and Joker replies "...yeah."

A few of Bane's cheesy action movie lines had me in stitches too.

Zod and Bane have hilarious ott lines.

"Release the world engine!"

Love it.

I found that hilarious as well. When the Joker said "yeah", it sounded like he was basically saying "duh".

They should just have a tone by tone basis depending on the character

I dont understand does saying marvel movies dont have thesame tone. They Do!Just different genres and this isnt a knock on them

A mix of dark and light tone would be appreciated.

The Dark Trilogy/Watchmen/Man of Steel are just too dark for my taste. Then the ones with the lighter tone like Green Lantern/Catwoman were just not good. The Superman Returns movie was a little bit of both but it didn't really feel modern.

I think it depends on what movie they are making, one thing I do think DC movies lack is humour, there are the odd funny bits, but overall I find they take themselves to seriously, but thats just my opinion, the Nolan trilogy was hugely successful and to me they were very serious movies.

I think Marvel movies are slightly lighter in tone and have more humour. It feels like they have the perfect mix, movies like The Nolan Batman trilogy or Man of Steel were to dark and serious, lighter movies like Green Lantern were just silly, I really hope they fix it.
