Hi there gentlemen! I'm sorry if these end up being the wrong forum to ask such questions but i guess they are the right ones. :P

Now i've been pondering whenever or not to get Nintendo DS or a PSP, both have great games to offer like Super Mario Kart (with netplay) Zelda, Mario games, and even that new Castlevania!

But the list on PSP seems promising too, you got God of War, Final Fantasy games like crisis core and that dissidia (looks so promising <3), and even a Castlevania Chronicles remake incoming!

But yeah, would the PSP be long-living enough for a casual like me? And whats this PSP-4K i hear about.

if you are a just a casual player, than the DS would be better suited for you. It has smaller on the go games. The PSP has some great games but its library isnt anywhere near as big and doesnt get that many releases month to month. Some promising casual games coming on the horizon though are Patapon 2, Loco Roco 2 and LittleBigPlanet. All look great and should help validate a purchase

weerDd upp the DS is a better fit. But it depends, I prefer playing my DS outside because I'm not comfortable playing my PSP anywhere outside of my room, the thing may as well be a console. :o Really this should just come down to the games you'd rather play, and battery life. Maybe screens too, I was never a fan of the PSP screen in daylight.

All depends on games. If you want a console experience on a handheld then the PSP is the way to go. If you're looking to game in short bursts then the DS is the way to go. I personally feel that while the DS has the larger, more diverse games library, the PSP's games are much better. God of War is a joy to play.

I only have three main issues with the PSP: it's not pocket-friendly; its battery life could be a bit longer; and the load-times are a bit slow. Other than these, which aren't huge problems IMO, it's a solid gaming system.

It really all comes down to your own personal preferences towards gaming.

Do you enjoy Nintendo franchises like the Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Metroid Prime: Hunters, Star Fox: Command, Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time, New Super Mario Bros., Pokemon: Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, etc. Third parties have also given the Nintendo DS with excellent third party support with Square-Enix developing the Final Fantasy III and IV, Dragon Quest IV, V, and VI and Chrono Trigger remakes along with the latest entry in the Dragon Quest IX and Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, Konami providing Contra 4, Lunar Knights, and the Castlevania series, Rockstar developing Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, and Sega providing Sonic games that don't suck.

Or are you into more the traditional PlayStation franchises like Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, Secret Agent Clank, Daxter, Resistance: Retribution, Killzone: Liberation, MediEvil: Resurrection,Twisted Metal: Head-On, LittleBigPlanet, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow, and God of War: Chains of Olympus. And the same third parties that provided Nintendo with great DS support are also supporting the PSP pretty well like Konami's Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and Metal Gear Ac!d 1 and 2, Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories, and Square-Enix's Final Fantasy I and II, Star Ocean 1 and 2 updates along with original titles like Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII.

Both systems have great titles and while they're both very different, I say there will be no regret choosing one over the other whatever it may be.

Just looking at those lists hippie_hunter I think it's clear the PSP is tailored to a more mature, hardcore gamer while the DS is suited best for a casual, younger audience.

I really doubt that Sony will announce the PSP2 at E3 with the massive amount of support that both Sony and third parties have announced just days ago.

I expect the PSP2 to be announced at next years E3, not this one.

Maybe, but with the amount of rumors going around, if that is true, i believe the annoucement will be much sooner than 2010.

Well as Hippie_Hunter's list shows theres more games i'dprolly enjoy, but as Isildur's heir just pointed out. Ill wait a couple of months. :p + theres the rumors of another god of war game on psp.

PSP2 rumors have been as old as the MGS4 for 360 rumors :o

I can't see the the PlayStation Portable 2 launching until late 2010/2011. Considering that the original PlayStation Portable launched in December of 2005. Sony tends to give their systems about 5/6 years before launching a new one. As evident with the PlayStation (launched in December 1994, ended in March 2006) and the PlayStation 2 (launched in March 2000 with support still going on).
