He's not implying that; you're inferring it.
He clearly stated that he meant it as a jab at President Bush. It's not his fault that the GOP spun his comment out of control.

He is implying it. "Get an education or you'll be stuck in Iraq."

How else can you interpret that?

A professional politician knows that his words can be used against him and needs to watch his words, so blame him not the GOP.

but....it wouldnt have HIT the trips if the GOP hadn't REDIRECTED IT and put them in the crosshairs

BS! I have friends in the military who, when they saw that on the news, took it PERSONALLY. They didn't listen to anyone "commenting" on it. They heard it for what it was and they were insulted.

Damn, the guy made a direct insult toward the military, whether he MEANT it or not. He should step up and take responsibility for it.

And people like you should stop trying to push this off on "the GOP". They didn't say it. KERRY DID.

Okkkk... since you don't "understand" what I'm saying, how about this:

There are plenty of educated people who CHOOSE to enlist, and there are hordes of uneducated, drifting people who "get stuck".

Kerry equated uneducated people as dumb, that was his "botched" joke. Uneducated people are not dumb, just poor. Do you still not get it? Or do you like mocking me like the way you mock the Bible everyday. Sometimes I wonder who you mock more--Jesus or HellOnEarth.

The world is coming to an end, we don't have time for this silliness. Grow up, kid. :oldrazz:

Ummm, yeah, this makes sense, seriously.

:huh::yay::o

Please, are you kidding? That's a smear campaign, Rep-style 101.

I love it that Bush was stateside, knocking up girlfriends and crashing his car into trees in a drunken stupor during the war; but, he has the balls to wave a finger at people who were there? Loser.

I have friends in the military who had no problem with what he said. Go figure.

Because he's implying that the only people serving in Iraq are dumb hicks who didn't have opportunities elsewhere.

He's essentially saying that their contributions are worthless.
You said anyone without a college education is a dumb hick. Kerry never said such a thing.

And Kerry didn't say their contributions were worthless. He said stay in school or you'll end up stuck in Iraq. Just like many enlisted soldiers "stuck" in Iraq today who would rather be home with their families.

If it was a smear campaign, than it was libel. You did notice that Kerry never did get around to suing their asses off, right?

Sure you do ;).

I mean, how can you NOT be insulted by "If you're in the military, it's because you're uneducated" when you're in the military??

No I said what Kerry was essentially saying. After all, everybody has the opportunity to get a high school education, but some don't have a chance to go to college.

How else can you interpret, "If you don't get an education you'll be stuck in Iraq?

Please, tell me how to re-interpret that in a positive light. Enlighten me.

groovy.............this is how one person thinks:

Kerry was talking about Bush and not the troops. Bush is the Village Idiot and has never been in combat. He did do a good job of hiding in the Air National Guard.:hyper:

it's a good thing, because they where proven to have economic ties to Nixxon and other key republican figures for a loooooong time.

plus, The Slag used to call them "the swiss boat veterans", and that **** was hilarious.

“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”

This is what people are going up in arms about?

I'm sorry, your quotes make it seem like it was something that was said.
when was that said exactly?
weren't you all outraged about innacuracy in the Michael J. Fox thread?

I don't care who has ties to what. I care about whether what they claim is the truth.

and Kerry never sued, despite that it helped cost him the presidency.

Not that those who are blindly supporting Kerry in this will bother, since it will present an opposing viewpoint and all ;).

I dont think you bothered even reading some of the responses, as there are people there that dont have a problem with what Kerry said. Nice spin as always lazur.

Not in college? You do realize that 95% of the officers in the military have college degrees, right? You do realize that, compared to the civilian population, the military is FAR more educated, right?
