Should Parents be notifed if teen daughter wants an abortion?

parents have the rgith to raise their child. but the key word is child. they don't get to dictate what that person's life is going to be like for the rest of their life!

you might have a secular teenage girl from a religous fanatic family. Why should she be forced into something just because her parents are religous fanatics?

Religion aside. How often do you hear about sick demented families on the news? Just rescently a mother and father locked their young daughter in a cage in the basement for months, while the father would go down and molest her every day, and the mother knew about it and everything.

How do we know a group of parents wont force a girl into incest and even pregnancy and prevent her from having an abortion?

you say they are too young to make the decision to have an abortion? well then wouldn't they be even more too young to be a parent then? If they are old enough to be a parent than they are old enough to not be one!

My vote is No on notifying the parents:

1. Father or other family relative may have been the cause of the pregnancy
2. Parents may "punish" their daughter (beat her up)
3. Parents may "shun" their daughter (throw her out of the house, or make living there with them impossible)
4. Knowing that her parents would be notified if she goes for a legal abortion, the girl might choose an illegal one that does even further harm to her.

Yes. If a teen is still underage, her legal guardians should be involved, period.

Another thing, the proposition has a clause protected abused children. Judicial review. The courts step in if necessary. There's no logical excuse to not have this pass.
While the proposed law would include a bypass provision for teens to seek help from a judge, a girl afraid to tell her parents isn’t going to march up to a judge in a strange courthouse to talk about her pregnancy.

Most victims of abuse do not want anyone to know they are being abused. How exactly would this work with the 48 hour notification policy when some court cases take months to get a review?

So basically if the girl is under 18, her parents own her vagina.

No
They don't own it. They're just it's caretakers. They want to know what it's been up to, how it's doing, etc.

My dad never took care of my vagina. :csad:

No, could create an undue burden. And you don't know who the parents are either. If they are abusive, don't believe in proper medical care, or are in any other ways whacky, it could be placing the teenager in more danger than would be if she could just perform it without.

And considering the demographic of most unwed mothers, or most seeking an abortion, many will find themselves in abusive households. Or are at the very least do not believe their surroundings are one in which you'd want to raise a child. So the likelyhood you are handing a young girl over to abusive parents before or after the abortion is quiet high.

Well he took it out for lunch once at this cute little Mexican restaurant by the lake but other than that no. :down

Well...i voted yes,but only if the family is open minded towards abortion.I wont ask how the girl got into this matter, its just the abortion.

Looking at this thread gives me a little bit of hope when considering liberal philosophy. Now only if Hillary Clinton will stop supporting a law that doesn't involve the state she represents.

She issued an audio tape to play in CA about the proposed law that comes out against it.
