Should we allow foreign-born citizens to run for President?

The President of the U.S. should put the interests of the United States first and foremost. Period. Someone born in another country may not be able to do that, particularly where their home country of origin is concerned.

Nope can't see it happening, I wouldn't trust someone who didn't grow up within our culture.

Even if it's Ah-nold.

what if they did "grow-up" in the culture. Like the example given earlier about a person who emigrated to the U.S. when they were just a child. They're talking about someone who has been a naturalized citizen for over 20 years...not just anybody jumping off a boat/plane and jumping onto the ballots.

I could consider that if they were like 3 years old when they came over.

Again, I use my example of the 3 month old in this case.

I say we don't pass the law until Arnold Schwarzenegger is dead. The last thing we need is a man who can barely pronounce the word "America" becoming president. And as my home state has proven twice, there are people out there just dumb enough to vote for him.

I don't get it. What's so special about being born in America? what if someone's born here but grows up in Japan or wherever, then returns and runs for president? wtf?

Theyre still naturally born here.

For all the people saying 'no'...where's the explanation?

Someone who immigrated to this country and lived here for 20 years has just as much , if not more, invested in this country as someone born here.

I'm not American so I may not understand the rule, if I give birth to a child in the US yet decide raise the child in a different country, as long as i don't give him or her the citizenship of that country is he or she still allowed to be president? or say if I move for a country with a one month old baby who is raised here the child can't be president? Isn't that kind of like saying "immigrants can't be trusted"? Naturalized citizen should at least be able to run, you don't have to vote for them.

Since I'm lazy and agree with Jag.

I'd still have to say nah, because someone from a terrorist group could easily work there way into power. I am not saying this couldn't still happen now, it just lowers the chances.

It's not a big deal.

AND MAKE THE DAMN POLL PUBLIC, DAMN!
Polls that aren't public make me so mad.

Uh... you also need to live here for at least 14 years.

Its a clause that is over 200 years old. I don't really see how it applies to the US today seeing as how the makeup of the country today is made up of a hodge-podge of nationalities. Naturalization laws blur the line even further making it even more confusing to who is a "natural born citizen".

I guess what I'm asking from all those saying no is, how will it hurt?

I really don't know you that well, but from the posts you've made here in this thread, I must say, you really shouldn't speak anymore.
