Siege

Exactly. JMS seems to have problems finishing things. ASM run started out great, hit "Sins Past," and puttered out to the horrors of "One More Day." Supreme Power started great, got switched to Squadron Supreme, was delayed heavily, and then JMS just left. The Twelve started great, was delayed heavily, and we're still waiting for #7 or 8 or something. Thor started great, was delayed heavily, and apparently he's leaving all the Doom experimenation stuff for Gillen to finish up because he ran away when Marvel mentioned a crossover--after 2 solid years of JMS' having exclusive rights to Thor.

So, judging from his résumé, we can expect three things from JMS: Strong starts, lots of delays, and weak or nonexistant endings.

So are any of you guys excited for this? I know people have been *****ing for years that the heroes need to go back to fighting the badguys, and this is pretty much what's going to end up having that happen.

Right?

Hopefully. I'd like to see teams return to more traditional rosters and for classic villains to be brought back to the forefront.

I was massively into Dark Reign to begin with but all the little pointless off-shoots, insane cameos and the inability to figure out Norman Osbournes hair is driving me crazy!

I've thought Dark Reign has been a good way to sort of make this awful status quo in Marvel the last five or six years come to a head. The whole coopting of the superhero community by SHIELD was ruined by it being taken over and reorganized by one of the many villains getting placed in the Thunderbolts, basically putting everything they were moving away from into perspective. Suddenly it's exciting again for the Avengers to have a classic line-up, for Reed Richards to be a genuine hero and not just a super-smart tool, and for there to be non-ninja villains.

Right?
I'm very much looking forward to it. I'm worried for the Avengers, since the reunion of the big three implies that the Avengers might consolidate into one team under them, which Bendis would write; but otherwise, I'm all for the shift in status quo back to a more traditional beloved heroes/evil villains setup.

I'm looking forward to it too.
Thor's been out of it for too long and SHOULD be a leader in the 616 IMO.

Considering how I've not liked a Bendis penned event or most of his run on the Avengers titles, can't say I'm all that excited. Probably won't check it out, but if it brings back the traditional Avengers and all that it'll be cool. If it weren't for Bendis I would probably be more excited

I'm not a fan of Bendis' large-scale superhero comics either, but the big 3 Avengers' reunion > my distaste for his writing. I'm gonna just fervently hope that he does a good job. He's sticking to a short and supposedly action-packed 4-issue mini for it, so that's a good sign; at least we won't have another Secret Invasion situation, where we get 6 issues of buildup and then a hasty climax and aftermath.

But that's how he does everything. Even four story arcs.

I'll buy it, because I wanna see them back at the forefront, but I'll probably still whine.

I will make a concerted effort to keep myself from being overly nitpicky. If reading old comics has taught me anything, it's that continuity errors are nothing new. Even at the best of times, someone will forget or not be aware of something. You can either let it drive you crazy or just move on and try to enjoy the rest of the story.

Yeah, but with the old comics, they weren't really a fully super integrated universe yet. It was just making cool little stories for kids.

Nowadays, we expect quality. :o

By the '70s, there was definitely an integrated universe in place. Thor went to Stark International for help a couple times in the issues I just read. And I think comics already had a readership that spanned all ages by that time, as well. There have certainly been stories complex enough to engage me even beyond simply wanting to know everything in Thor's series. I've gotten genuinely engrossed in some of the stories.

Yeah, the length may help it, I don't know. If it ends up being good I'll probably pick up the trade or something, and if I hear good things about the afterward I'll probably jump into it. I just doubt that it will be, to be honest, but if is I'll be glad to be wrong

As I recall, Ultimate War was a short, four issue mini Bendis did. Beware. He's actually worse in short doses.

alright so i havent been keeping up too much with dark reign, but i know tony is pretty messed up right now, what happened there ?

also, is steve rogers cap alive? the cap on that promo shot looks like him, but i didnt know if he had been saved yet.

and where does thor fit into the mix here ?

this siege events seems pretty ecxiting i hope i can keep up with it.

When Tony became head of SHIELD and oversaw the registration of all the superheroes operating in the USA under the USA's Superhuman Registration Act, those heroes' secret identities became a matter of government record. But Tony, knowing how devastating it could be if those secret identities fell into the wrong hands, kept those records sealed so that only he had access to them.

Cut to post-Secret Invasion and Osborn's in charge, SHIELD is disbanded and replaced by HAMMER, and Tony is ousted from his job. Upon being relieved of his post, he was supposed to turn over those secret identities to Osborn, but instead he destroys the records and runs, making himself a fugitive. Unfortunately, Tony himself still has the secret identity information in his head and he knows he can't evade Osborn forever, so he creates what is basically a biological computer virus and infects himself with it. It slowly eats away at his mind so that, even if Osborn does catch him, he won't be able to get anything out of Tony's head.

Well, Osborn finally catches Tony and almost kills him, but because killing a once-revered hero on national TV would be a big public relations disaster for Osborn, he stops short and simply has Tony arrested. But Tony's brain is now basically empty and he's comatose, so Osborn is required by law to notify Tony's physician--one Dr. Donald Blake. :)

Steve Rogers is almost alive again. He'll be back by the end of Captain America Reborn, which wraps up in another three months, I think.

Thor is Dr. Donald Blake, in case that wasn't clear. So he'll be near Iron Man for the foreseeable future, presumably paving the way for him to forgive Tony and reunite with both him and Steve when the time comes.

Bendis had an interview in the new Wizard mag about Siege. He said it is mainly a trinity focused book with small moments from Maria Hill, Balder, and The Secret Warriors. He also said that (as we all have figured) The Dark Avengers are not walking away from this one, specifically saying there will be deaths on the team.

My guess (or hopes) are for The Sentry and Gargan-Venom to bite the big one.

He also said that all of the editors have agreed that this is the last major universe spanning crossover. From here on out events will be self contained like World War Hulk.

Thanks for the info corp. That pretty much awnsered all my questions. I think I mite start picking up thor again.
Maybe ironman too, they just got too boring just before secret invasion.
And cap reborn I only got the first and third issue, I was unsure how many others had been released since then.

I guess guys just need ol' hulk for the classic avengers huh.

THOR and IRON MAN have been amazing... and Reborn 1 was lame but after 1 its been great

fufufufufufufufufu in there.

No, seriously. Haven't they said this like...after the past 5 events? House of M "No more big events!" Civil War "No more super big events!" Secret invasion "No more big events! except dark reign!" Siege "No more big events except for in another 4 months when we start plugging the next one!"
