Siege

A no brainer idea now that we've been introduced to it.

Well I know I thought of it when I was a kid (not with all the emotion spectrum stuff of course), so it's kinda hard to imagine no actual comic writer ever did. They probably thought of it and dismissed it. Or got rejected by an editor.

It's the absolute opposite of what Dark Reign is. Instead of the villains controlling everything by being in positions of power, the heroes are going to take control again, something that hasn't been seen since the early 2000's. Wait, I take that back. Superheroes have never really "run" things, they've just been protectors. I think in this AoH superheroes are going to do exactly what Osborn has done during DR but for good instead of evil, i.e. Steve Rogers possibly taking over SHIELD.

Why is Norman trying to take over Asgard? Is he doing it for the heck of it or was there some event that sparked this interest and/or attack?

No.

It's all propaganda. He is trying to show he is doing things in the best interests of the US people. He says that Asgard being on American soil is a breach of American peoples rights and that these Asgardians are too dangerous to be mixing with humans or some crap like that.

But really, he doesn't care about the peoples rights. He is just pretending he does to get them on his side. He just wants Asgard out of the way so he can retain power.

And to spark the siege of Asgard he stitched Volstagg up, making it look like Volstagg destroyed the Chicago Bears stadium.

so, controlling everything isn't propaganda?

I'm pretty sure Norman himself even said "Asgard is the last thing I need, in order to control it all" or something along those lines.

Well I don't think he actually wants to be king of Asgard.

And remember Loki has been manipulating him all this time. Loki probably wants Asgard to himself, and is just using Osborn to get it.

He wants Asgard off American soil(or airspace) since he can't control/understand it

I'll never understand why people don't just shoot Loki on-sight after a thousands of years of deceit and manipulation. Even if what Loki's saying to you sounds true, it's probably not OR he's just using you. Makes my blood boil; kind of why I hope Balder dies during Siege :o

Oh course he is. :funny:

Loki is playing the part of Scarlet Witch, which Osborn knows.
in Mighty Avengers 32, she(he) teleports them to the place where the Dark Avengers are and Osborn says "dammit Loki" under his breath. I bet that means Osborn knows he isn't in charge as much as he wishes he was.

I dont get that though bc the President doesnt view Asgard as a threat, nor do the people. It seems as if he's causing drama and conflict for no reason. And why would he think that he could handle gods?

Also when did Doom and Namor become friendly? I was surprised to see Doom willing to take a hit for him

Osborn has basically gone rogue now. He doesn't pay attention to the President anymore. I mean, what's the Pres gonna do about it? Osborn has all the superhumans under his control... for the moment.

Doom and Namor were part of Osborn's Cabal. But they both broke away from it. So I imagine Doom is friendly with Namor for the moment because they are both enemies to Osborn. The enemy of my enemy is my friend and all that.

He's a psycho murderer supervillain. It's what he does.

Its all about power. He's said already that once the siege of asguard is done nothing will be able to stop him. The rest of the world won't even comprehend what he did for years.

Reading the last couple of issues of World's Most Wanted last night, Tony needs to kick Norman's ass in Siege.

Even if it's Cap or Spider-Man who ultimately take Norman down at at the end, it'd be nice if Iron Man kicked him around a little bit as payback for that ass kicking he got at the end of WMW. And hopefully he mentions something about the paint job like Norman wanted him to.

Agreed, Iron Man definitely suffered the most by Osborn since Dark Reign has begun.

But also, if Steve Rogers is the one to take out Osborn, it'd be symbolic and show why he is such a great hero/symbol and to bring in the "Heroic Age" with him again becoming the leader of the Avengers.

I know this is sorta off topic so forgive me but i just read the entirety of Warren Ellis' run on Thunderbolts for the first time and holy frikken GOD that was some amazing comic books. That book puts Dark Avengers to shame. THAT should have been THE book for Dark Reign instead of DA. The only thing going for DA was Deodato's artwork but Bendis really didnt do ANYTHING with that book. Ellis took you on a crazed, insane journey with Norman Osborn and a bunch of psychotic villains in control and the build up was exceptionally well done. I feel like this was the kind of book i was expecting throughout Dark reign but never got.

Anyway, just wanted to mention that. lol

I don't think Dark Avengers is awful compared to Ellis' T-Bolds its just that the Thunderbolts *deserved* to become these high ranked "heroes" and i have to say i loved (and this is WHAT got me into Mainstream Marvel in the first place) was when i saw the teaser for Dark Reign and i saw these villains playing costume as the good guys. Ever since that teaser my Marvel GN collection has gotten larger and larger.

Well Bullseye and Swordsman didn't really deserve to become heroes. Bullseye definitely didn't lol.

Ellis just has a better grasp of psychological stuff than Bendis.

I mean i just liked the progression from Thunderbolts to actual "Avengers" it has powerful symbolism of Norman the Goblin President raping Lady Liberty right there!

Osborn is trying to destroy Asgard because they're the last legitimate threat to his power. He has no control over them. He doesn't have to worry about the good Avengers because he's got his Dark Avengers. He doesn't have to worry about other heroes because he's got the Initiative. He doesn't have to worry about the X-Men because they're keeping to their island since "Utopia."

But the Asgardians have mostly heroic leanings, are immensely powerful, and believe themselves to be above the laws of man. Their ex-king Thor is one of the most powerful beings in the universe. That kind of power scares other people in power; we've actually seen this exact storyline play out during Jurgens' King Thor saga with a cabal of high-powered business leaders, in fact.
