The first Blade movie did not have a Marvel logo before the credits. And even if it did, to see the credits you'd have to already be in the theatres. People went to see the movie because as you said Snipes was still a star at that point, it had lots of action, and vampires.
"The Matrix with vampires," basically.

I'm not gonna dig up the dvd to see for sure, it's really not that big a deal.

:huh::huh::huh:So you mean everyone walks into a theatre 5 min into a movie??? Maybe a few *******s, but not everyone. Most people are planted in their seats 15 min early, cause EVERYONE knows that the previews are the best part of going to the movies.

As I recall however, I think most of Blade's main success came from dvd sales. It was one of the first movies to come out on dvd format. I remember everyone raving about how awesome the opening bloodbath party scene looked on disc.

:huh: I don't know where you're getting this "late to the movies" talk from. . You said the marvel stuff is in the credits. I'm saying the only way for the audience to have seen those credits (besides bootlegging) when a movie comes out is to be there in the theatres...so they went there to see this action/horror flick starring Snipes, but not because it was a movie about an obscure comic book character. It's not like Blade being a Marvel character was a part of the ad campaign for the movie.

:huh::huh::huh::huh: You can't be serious.

I didn't know that Blade was a comicbook character until the second one.

I knew Blade was a comic book character because of Spider-Man TAS. Then I went to the first movie with my dad, us both thinking he would be interpreted similarly to the cartoon. We were wrong but we still enjoyed it.

Not into Tomb of Dracula, back in the day?

In all fairness I read alot of that series and I forgot he was in it. But like someone said the Spidey cartoon was my initial recollection.

I remember when the first Blade movie came out, i was like "Oh crap, its that vampire dude from the Spiderman cartoon! He's got a movie now??" lol. Thats how I knew Blade.

That's like the argument we get at work from time to time when a new guy starts, really likes Star Wars, finds a comic book calendar in my office, and proceeds to tell me how Jedi would stomp anybody there.

My answer? The Spectre. =l

Jedi? Hell no. Mandalorians? Maybe. :awesome:

Geez, nobody remembers Midnight Sons huh?

To be fair, most of the people that bought Midnight suns in the 90's bought it for the kewl variant covers and because they thought it would be worth something someday, like pretty much everything that sold in the 90's. Now, did any of those people actually read the book? That is the question.

As far as Blade on the Spidey Cartoon, I didn't make the connection. They were completely different really. Also, Cartoon Blade sucked, so that helped me to forget he even existed.

I remember Midnight Sons but I never read any of the books. To say that short-lived "movement" lead to the Blade movie is a big stretch.

I don't know man, I thought they both failed miserably. just cuz you put syrup on s**t, don't make it pancakes.
