Okay, it's time to be the voice of reason here.
For a long time I was a bit disappointed in the role of Cyclops. For a long time we wondered why Cyclops was killed off, why Rogue took this, and why Angel has such a limited role. All of those are very valid questions and represent our particular feelings towards the source material, the writers, and of course, the film itself.
But we need to think realistically for a change. Who's to say Simon and Zakk didn't fight for Cyclops? Who's to say that they didn't see the popularity, the posts, and of course the overwhelming love for the Phoenis Saga? But yet, they still had to work within the parameters and did the best they could.
What fanboys/fangirls fail to understand is that the movie field is a business. This isn't New Line Cinema, LGF, or Sony where studios back off and allow you to make the movie of your dreams.
Dave Chappelle recently spoke on this matter. He said those who want to be writers or directors, be prepared to walk into a room full of suits who have NO IDEA what the material is about and be prepared for them to laugh at your ideas. If anything, you cannot blame Ratner, Simon, or Zakk anymore. It's time to focus the blame on the likes of Rothman and realize that it was he called for all of this.
It's easy for us to sit here and say "Oh Simon and Zakk SUCK! THIS MOVIE SUCKS! BRETT RATNER IS A STUDIO YES MAN!", when it's obvious none of you and this includes myself, knows what you would do in that situation and how you would get the movie finished.
I haven't seen the film yet. But I'm getting quite bored and annoyed of overzealous fanboys whining, crying, and bashing the writers and the directors for doing their job. If you can do so much better and feel you can make a better movie, then stop whining and actually get into the movie field so you can show the REAL directors how it's done.
