Horror Sinners - Michael B. Jordan/Ryan Coogler Reunite

While Im not quite sure I love the movie (yet). I do love the fact that more people are loving Coogler for doing something very unique. Im glad people are really loving the film. However, yes there is a worry he'll get lost in the Marvel system.

Denzel is the only reason BP3 still has my interest.
The script is so smart. There is so much going on.
The tension between the Blues being a native product of black culture and Christianity, which was forced on them by the White Man, telling them it is evil.

The inevitable tragedy of black entrepreneurship and how even with community support they can't succeed because they don't have access to real money, just the fake plantation money.

Commentary on the black exodus from the South and the cotton fields to the urban North where their dreams are shattered to find much the same.

How white stupidity and prejudice (trusting the white vampire over the indigenous hunters) leads to ruin for everyone.

The false promises and entreaties of allyship and solidarity from white folks only for it to not be what it seems.

Saw it last night, and enjoyed it. I don't think I like it as much as some of the online movie pundits (John Campea and Reel Rejects for example), but whatever. Hopefully their enthusiasm will help put butts in seats so the movie succeeds.

I really wish Black Panther III wasn't happening because Coogler is wasted on such franchise filmmaker.

As someone who long felt like Disney restrained Coogler a bit for BP1, I would've agreed with this if not for Wakanda Forever. I know it's the overwhelming opinion that it's a weaker film than BP1, but I contend that WF, while certainly a lesser Marvel movie, is actually a better Coogler film because it felt like Marvel gave him the leeway to execute his vision/voice, excluding the Riri and Ross subplots.

The way Coogler balanced in WF the theme of grief and the empowerment of black women overcoming it, while impressively tackling the theme of political conflict arising between 2 oppressed groups trying to achieve similar goals felt so rich and poignant for a blockbuster tentpole film. It makes me look forward to what Coogler has in store for BP3 in terms of thematic heft. I'd expect Feige will trust Coogler to execute his vision as he wishes, especially in light of Sinners.

You get it.

Wakanda Forever has some serious issues with its portrayal of Latin and Indigenous Americans.

Saw this last night on IMAX and been simmering in it. I'm adding myself to the choir of those hailing it as masterpiece because it is nothing but. I've only seen Fruitvale Station and Black Panther once, so I'm not super well versed in Coogler films other than really loving Fruitvale. But this is a modern and instant classic. Haven't felt a similar feeling since the Batman Nolan trilogy. I will be seeing this again and again.

9.5/10

Are we talking about the fact that they were the antagonists or rather inaccurate representation?
A lot of problematic, bad stereotyping and problematic subtext to their representation.

Hopefully Hailee Steinfeld will continue to be apart of Coogler's future projects.

I'd certainly like to see Jordan and Steinfeld do another film together .

Their chemistry is great.

The chemistry between Jordan and Wunmi was amazing too. Hope to see her in more of Coogler’s stuff too.

Coogler did it again.

Sinners was cool as hell and easily my second favorite of his after Black Panther.

The cast was across the board good. Michael B. Jordan is so good in this that I forgot for much of the duration of the film that he does not in fact have a twin brother. Miles Caton had a hell of a debut here, Hailee Steinfeld was great, Jack O'Connell was terrifying, Wunmi Mosaku was amazing but I gotta say Delroy Lindo stole the show for me the most.

That one shot sequence in the middle showing the spirits in there with them while Sammy played was legendary.

I also had a huge grin on my face seeing that flashforward when the credits rolled and MBJ and Hailee walked into the bar looking like 1992 threw up on them. I knew something was up when we didn't see them die with the others.

Really the only negative thing I have to say about the whole thing is that the marketing gave too much away, which is in no way a strike against the film itself.
