Horror Sinners - Michael B. Jordan/Ryan Coogler Reunite

Been with a few Marys in my life. The first one bleached my clothes and destroyed my brand new tv back then ,which those who know! Know how expensive they was. The second keyed my car. Having said that! Remembering with rose color shades and how hnnngh they were, I’d do it again, perhaps get a second phone, but no regrets. I get it.

Not bleaching your clothes OG…

Lawd, could’ve been worse. Atleast your Mary didn’t throw the hot grits on you, Al Green style LOL.

Just incredible numbers all around and I also wouldn't be surprised if it went higher. This has some of the best WOM I've seen for a film in a really long time and I've heard a ton of people in real life say they are seeing it again this weekend.

I'm actually seeing this again today with family since I saw it solo the first time and now they really want to see it due to all the hype. This just feels like an EVENT film and the kind we don't get very often.

I've been bumping the score since I've seen this. I personally wouldn't quite call this movie a masterpiece like many are deeming it but nonetheless a super solid, fun and fresh genre bending film. Very happy to see this level of success.

But Variety says this is a failure so :o

Dumb questions maybe, but if MBJ did get a nom, how would that work for a dual role?

The score is fire. “Smokestack Twins” is a beautiful piece of music. Really unique and effective in the film itself.

AT THE VERY LEAST, Delroy Lindo and Coogler both better get noms.
If Autumn Durald Arkapaw doesn't get nominated for best cinematography, there should be a riot. Only a few select handful of cinematographers have ever actually filmed on 65mm IMAX film and she knocked it out of the park. Honestly, it is the best looking film I have seen in at least a couple years, including even Dune Part II and Oppenheimer.

Its weird because I'v seen the film three times. And its not a masterpiece in the traditional sense. The flaws are still there, but I've had a different experience each time.

First time I loved the Vampire/Musical. Really stood out as I've never seen this before.
Second time the period piece was a masterclass.
This third time I found the movie very funny.

I think why audiences are loving it and why it might end up being a "genre masterpiece" is just based on how much stuff is going on. Its got enough in it for people to find something enjoyable.

It reminds me of Get Out in that way. I think Get Out wasnt as well crafted (1st time director) as it could have been but the story/tone were so pitch perfect. Great ensemble performances.

This isnt as ironclad script wise and I do think some set pieces could have been more than just good to very good. However, a director taking so many big swings and connecting on most of it just feels refreshing.

This was much better for me on a second watch especially the first half. It's still far from perfect but man is this movie a crowd pleaser on so many levels.

Delroy Lindo and Omar Benson got the biggest laughs from my audience this time too.

It deserves to make all the money at the BO and hopefully it's able to hold its own against the competition coming up this month as well.

I agree with this and I also didnt think Get Out was THAT great. It was solid for sure but i didnt feel it blew my mind or anything. It was a very solid horror thriller.

Sinners oozes style, mood, sexiness, incredibly adept directing, cinematography and acting. And it is funny.

Last Podcast on the Left interviewed Cogler and he talks about how the idea of "genres" rubs him the wrong way and it really, really shows in Sinners. It's got something for everyone to love, I can't remember the last time I saw something quite like this

I dont think its far from perfect.

I think its got tiny little holes here and there that just adds up and keep it from being perfect.
If he probably waited to shoot the movie this year and release it next year he might have perfected it.

First half feels sorta perfect to me. I think its the trouble of weaving the vampires in a single location and making it consistently as dynamic as the overall look/vibe of the 1st half and as energetic/inventive as the musical set pieces.

It sets him up to do something major for his next original movie. Budget might be 150 mill next time. Although I do think keeping it under 100 mill should be the sweet spot.
