Skepticism regarding Suicide Squad

My worries lie with Harley. I think Margot's going to do fantastic, but I'm worried about the writing and the costume's pretty bad. That's really all I'm worried about though, everything else looks great to me.

I personally like this costume (not that it matters) but I bet she'll have at least 3-4 costumes in the movie.

Or when you don't have a group of condescending posters circle jerking each other over their equally condescending put downs.

Lol, that's one of the most accurate descriptions of what goes on in that thread. :applaud

My only concern at the moment is that there might be too many characters. Other than that, everything looks and seems great so far.

I wonder if the passion will come out a bit with the first footage. People had preconceived notions surrounding BvS on account of MOS, and I wonder how people will react with some actual movie clips.

I think there's a lot of positivity from fans based off the costume reveals, cast members and production team, so they'll be given a lot more slack than BvS I would hazard. If they release a slick and cool trailer the hype for this might go over what people feel for BvS.

All it needs is some badassery from Lawton/Croc/Katana and some clever dialogue from Digger and Harley with some action and people will be pulled in hook, line and sinker.

You might be right. I really enjoy posting here, however, so I hope cool heads prevail.

It's not my favorite of all of Harley's looks, but the more I see it, the more I like it. I understand why some don't, though, especially considering how the genre's spotty track record with female characters.

I think so too, and that's why I don't post there anymore.

Top that off with Waller and Bruce tension. I do hope they filmed a scene together.

Not impossible at all. I forgot about Waller. I really hope they put in some pun about "But that mission is suicide!" in the trailer and Waller has some sweet comeback :hehe:

Waller should really be the DCCU Nick Fury, lots of lip and sass please.

"suicide mission" puns are inevitable.

Yeah, I rarely post there myself for the same reason as you. I only go there in case there are scoops that the Hype doesn't put on their page. But yeah, this forum seems infinitely better so far.

I still have faith that the movie will be good but there are few things I'm disappointed with or skeptical about.

- Joker and Harley's costumes are awful to me. I was hoping they would grow on me, they didn't. Everyone else's costumes are good enough. I know that the performance matters most but for me personally the costumes are more important than they are to other people apparently. I feel like the look of the characters, in this particular genre is more important than in other adaptations and I was hoping to see the characters look, mostly the same as they do in most of their comics. Just gets me more invested in the characters/movie. And IMO The Joker and Harley costumes were too great already to make such drastic changes.

- Some of the supporting cast members are really mediocre actors IMO. Ike Barinholtz, Jay Hernandez, Jim Parrack, Adam Beach and Common are very mediocre actors. I'm hoping that none of them are playing important characters.

- Despite the fact that I like Will Smith, I still don't think he's a good fit for Deadshot and I don't like race-bending characters, don't care how that makes me sound. I think Smith is far better suited playing a hero.

- Still disappointed that they're starting the DCCU out with so much of Batman's history behind him already, feels like jumping into a movie half way through when it comes to Batman's mythos.

Otherwise, I think everything else should be good to go. I like David Ayers as a Director, I think Margot Robbie is the perfect choice for Harley. I think Leto is one of the best choices they could have came up with for Joker. While I really don't like Viola Davis I think she's probably the best choice for the role of Waller, she fits the character. I'm excited to see Leto and Robbie as Joker/Harley despite their terrible costumes. Batman is going to be in the movie. I've always liked the Suicide Squad idea and storylines. Overall I'm still interested in the movie but there have just been a few choices here and there for the Direction of the DCCU that I don't like. But it still has the potential to be great.

Barring one or two exceptions, I wasn't too impressed with the suits, but every thing else about this movie sounds good.

I hope this thread is more respectful to skeptics than the one in the BvS forum.

I was just reading that thread and no one was disrespectful to you. Heh.

------------------

Anyway, I'm not a fan of the tattoo on his face and not really liking HQ suit. I hope she has others.

Barinholtz- I hope he isn't Hugo Strange.

Jim Parrack- I hope he is not playing Deathstroke.

Will Smith- He seems to be the lead and I worry about how much pandering they had to do for him. I know he won't wear his mask through the film.

I think there's still plenty of time for the costumes to grow on you. Their performances may convince you.

Aww, that sucks. I miss your presence on the DOJ boards. :csad:

This board isn't always more polite though. Some folks did throw a hefty fit when I said I wasn't into the tiny hotpants on Harley. I even made an effort to be polite myself and explained multiple times that I didn't expect her to be covered head-to-toe, but they kept on saying things like "You have a condition! You hate the human body! You think women aren't people if they show skin! Yay for butt cheeks!"

Seriously. They were one step away from "burn the witch!" All I wanted was maybe some longer shorts (just enough for butt coverage), a skirt, or tight pants, lol. I actually like the rest of the costume and may even get used to the hot pants.

Yeah, just not gonna happen. Giving a great performance doesn't change how they look. I expect both Leto and Robbie to be good at worst in the roles but I'll just never like these costume designs.

I've heard some troubling things about script re-writes, which Will is wont to do, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Will is a team player on this one. It makes sense to put Deadshot (and Harley) on the forefront considering they're the most popular actors and characters.

I honestly thought they'd have gone with tight pants really. I was surprised she was in the short shorts in the squad picture but besides that, the rest of the look is very much Harley and I like it.

I agree. If they're possibly looking closely at AoA as a source of plot then it only makes sense to give Will top billing, since he was essentially the protagonist in that movie. If he was playing El Diablo or Flagg I'd say it might be problematic if he wanted a huge amount of screen time, but I'm hoping Deadshot does get a lot of the focus and it'd make sense.

I think it's very Harley as well. I've seen some complaints that it's not the classic, but it still suits her and fits in well next to the Joker picture. The make-up and hair styling is perfect. I actually like that aspect of it better than many of her comic/game looks.

 Agreed. I prefer it too. It's not that much of a departure from the character like a few perceive.

I don't really have much skepticism so far. Director, cast, costumes (for the most part) are all good. I'm eager for the first trailer.

I understand where you're coming from. Their designs have grown on me, but I can understand perfectly well why others still don't like them (especially Harley's).

Why not?

RE: race-bending: I generally don't have a problem with it.

They still have plenty of time to explore his history and the consequences of specific actions and events.

I'm curious: why don't you like Viola Davis?

I miss you, too, but I'm very happy that you're here now. I don't mind telling you that you're one of my favorite posters.

This board isn't always more polite though.

That's true. I've seen some impoliteness, and stepped in when I thought things were getting out of hand, but I don't think this section is at all comparable to the DOJ section.

I can sympathize. I really wasn't expecting what we got.

I was expecting (and hoping) for something along the lines of her AOA look.

The Assault on Arkham look (maybe minus the crop top and replacing it with a longer top) with the mask would have been perfect.

Agreed. I could've done without the mask, though.
