Sleeping Dogs

For all you PS3 players out there.

How to Enable a New Game +

I personally didn't find this glitch but it's a cool one, so I thought I'd share it. Doing this allows you to play all the story and side missions again but with all your upgrades and everything intact (minus health, so it makes it a little harder).

1. Enter the social hub and load up the second mission "Night Market Chase".

2. Instead of following the objective marker to the right, walk left of the dvd vendor and fail the mission for getting too far away. Press X to continue and you'll get a solid black screen.

3. Leave it on the black screen until the save icon appears in the top right and goes away. After that, press the PS button and choose "quit game".

4. Restart the game from the XMB and continue your game from the main menu of sleeping dogs.

It should load you into the first apartment and when you check the map it will have icons for drug busts, story, favors and police cases.

Note: This works on the PS3 but I'm not able to test it on the 360, so it may not work there.

*Edit*

I'm happy to confirm, that this works on PC too. :awesome:

Been playing about 20 hours or so, I think I'm about halfway through. I wish the triad/police/face XP were a little more balanced... I'm only Triad lvl 6 but I've already maxed out the police/face XP hahah.

So, what is the veredict?
Is the game worth of a purchase? Did it meet your expectations?

I'd say so, especially if you're a fan of open world games. I had next to no expectations lol but it's been pretty great.

Got to play the demo last night....yeah. Not for me. I just thought the whole concept was boring

Judo kicking ppl in the face and racing through the streets of Hong Kong is anything but.

Just picked it up today, I had 63 bucks of store credit so all I had to pay was 15 cents lol

Don't worry about him. He's just saying he's over dose him self on the genre of gang themed games, even though this game sets it's self apart from the rest content wise and we saw what soapy said on the demo (which wasn't cool compared to the actual game)and he just played that same him self. Which obviously was a mistake. He wasn't given the actual cool experience due to a bad demo.
When he's out of / over his detox of playing too many gang styled games he'll eventually come back to it and hopefully not head to the poorly made demo again.

Kicking the crap out of people is incredibly fun. Especially when you're up against these odds.

Hahah yeah, I always go for the big guys first. I hate getting grappled.

Btw, what were some of your favorite moments in the game? Not even story or event related, just something you came across or happened and you thought that's awesome. One of my favorite moments was when I bought that Panzer car. I just left the garage and as always the music starts playing. It was on the classic channel and I hear this.

I thought "Hallelujah indeed". :word:

my fav moment was easily the discovery of the yellow Game of Death style track suit. I proceded to my closest fight and dished out a massive ass kicking.

I always got a laugh out of the random people outside of all of Wei's apartments hahah.

Anyways, beat the game in around 30 hours. Found all the collectibles but didn't do all the vehicle deliveries/extortions, and I don't think I will for a while since I have Darksiders 2 ready to go. Overall a solid game, I'm always a fan of endings that have closure and a tiny cliffhanger so I'm happy that they're thinking of doing a sequel already.

Slowing down everything so you have time to line up a shot when you're shooting from a vehicle? F**king brilliant. The gunplay in general is sweet, especially with upgrades but that's the highlight of it all.

Extensive wardrobe.

Even though you can see the twists and turns coming from a mile away the story is presented well enough that it doesn't matter.

Hong Kong is a big playground, and it's pretty awesome how they even designed rooftops for a bunch of locations. It also looks gorgeous at night when it's raining.

You can do all kinds of psychotic stuff without any consequences whatsoever. I held out in an alley at the max wanted level just gunning down cops as they waltzed into my line of fire... until they eventually stopped and I went about my business like nothing happened lmao. I left behind a huge pile of guns.

Dating was pointless but they made me lol coz they were each ridiculous so it's all good.

Combat could have been more fluid, and it wouldn't have hurt to tweak the AI so they're more aggressive.

Police / Face / Triad levelling is crazy unbalanced. My police and face XP were maxed out halfway through the game and I only maxed out triad XP during the 2nd last mission. I guess it could have been a design choice to portray how hard it is to earn Triad trust, but whatever the reason it was a bad choice.

Gambling is a chore, especially cockfighting. The numbers and stats for the roosters are arbitrary so it's basically bet on one and hope for the best... then watch them fight for 30 seconds, for no reason, because what you see has no bearing on which one wins the match.

The DLC available so far is nothing but shortcuts... get outta here!

I just played the demo on PS3. Is there seriously no way to change the controls? I hate when games make L2/R2 aim/shoot. When will developers realize that the Dualshock 3 is not a 360 controller?

I think it's perfect the way it is. I honestly can't play with the 360 controller. Tried it twice and hated it.

I'm comfortable with both. Lately I've been using the 360 controller a lot, because it's what I use to game on the PC.

When the PS3 gets a better controller?

HEYYOOOOOO!

:p

The L2/R2 buttons are awful for shooting mechanics. That works out much better using the L1/R1. I don't get why it's so difficult to have an option to change it and I hate when developers lock it in.

Everything about that controller is awful(minus using it for fighters), from the sloped L2/R2 triggers to the location of the poorly designed convex joy sticks, its just bad. Theres a reason so many 3rd party PS3 controllers are shaped like the 360's pad and not vice versa.

I agree tho, devs should always include customization options. Always.

That's pure opinion. Only advantage to the 360 is that I don't feel like I'll crush it in a video game rage. Otherwise I prefer the ps3 controller in every way. Ultimately 360 is made for big American hands vs the ps3 made for smaller asian hands.

It is all preference but the 360 pad is more ergonomic. Plus I play a lot of first person shooters so having each analog stick side by side is awkward when I want to strafe right and look left.

I guess we are all loving those Preset Outfits and homages to other Movies and Franchises. Is there a particular Outfit someone wants to see as DLC or added in a Sequel? Here's my list, made a Thread on the Sleeping Dogs Forum.

Rude's Turks Suit

Agent 47

Dragon from the Movie 'Dragon Tiger Gate'

Ip Man

Kato from 'The Green Hornet'

Ko from the PS2 Game 'The Bouncer'

The 'City Hunter'

Kazuma Kiryu from the 'Yakuza' Series

I can't think of any off the top of my head but it'd be awesome if each outfit offered a unique bonus too, I was a bit disappointed none of them did anything.

The Ip Man suit should enable God Mode then.

I think the LB/RB buttons and D-pad on the 360 controller are awful. And the triggers are absolutely terrible for fighters. Each controller has its pros/cons

Episode 8: The Sleeping With The Sleeping Dogs Show

Welcome to a special “Sleeping Dogs” edition of Vic’s Basement. This week: Sleeping Dogs producer Dan Sochan joins Vic and Scott down in their subterranean lair, where they bark orders at Vic’s mom(Who doesn't live with him there at all) to BRING DOWN MORE DAMN MEATLOAF. Dan gives a candid, behind-the-scenes look at the making of Sleeping Dogs, including a true story called, “That One Time We Were Alone In A Dingy Room With Actual Triad Members And Feared For Our Lives.” Trust us: it is hair-raising. If you’re playing Sleeping Dogs and loving it, you’re not going to want to miss this episode. Hell, you know what? Even if you’re not playing Sleeping Dogs, you’re still going to love this week’s episode. If you don’t, we will personally buy you a meatloaf dinner.

yep and Vic's pokes fun at activion for dropping this title (which pat loves to hear) some hopes for the sequel like MP. talks the on up coming DLC. And there were more to the dates(as in dating) that

Finished the game. Even though I started Darksiders 2 before it, I couldn't put the controller out of my hands once I started the game. Easily enjoyed this more than any GTA game and I'm looking forward to a sequel. Hopefully that will have some dialogue options or choices that affect the story and also girlfriends that are more than a short fling and unlock stuff on the map for you.
mentioned a page ahead which Dan Sochan goes into more detail about. cause there was more to them that was left out.

Grappling enemies and dragging them over to environment props is certainly fun – especially when fish tanks, furnaces, and gates are nearby – but this ability is taking a back seat to the world itself.
