What are your thoughts on the 1999 Tim Burton film?

Mediocre, less attention paid to framing then his older films. Relies too heavily on rythmic montage and filters.

Agreed. Like all Tim Burton movies, its either a hit or a miss!

Don't get me wrong. I like the movie. However, I get more out of watching movies like Big Fish and Edward Scissorhands.

I am not sure where exactly I would place it in a Burton ranking. That would require me to think.

I'd go something like this, although I truely believe Burton's movies are interchangable based on the viewer.

Big Fish
Ed Wood
Batman
Batman Returns

Then would come:

Beetlejuice
Sleepy Hollow
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

I think those top 5 are great, as is Beetlejuice. Sleepy Hollow and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory I think were also very good (and quite enjoyable).

Now, Mars Attacks and Planet of the Apes were duds

I liked it. And it featured Danny Elfman's best score since Men In Black in 1997.

Liked it, very good film. Impressive set designs, visual style, vfx and make-up. Also I felt ok with the whole story concept as well as with characters.
