Plot Summary: "Slumdog Millionaire" is the story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India's "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?"

But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show's questions.

Intrigued by Jamal's story, the jaded Police Inspector begins to wonder what a young man with no apparent desire for riches is really doing on this game show?

When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out...

Cool! Well, nice to meet ya. :yay: I live in Montecito, and also used to go to sbcc, haha. And yeah, I'll try to catch the movie.

I saw this movie last night...it is in limited release right now, basically like 3 theaters in the US have it. I saw it in NY
It averaged $46,000 per each screen, which is amazing compared to Quantam of Solace which earned $20,000
This movie is one of the best this year and the BEST MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN...It also recieved a freaking standing applause. Ive never seen that.

Its so raw and detailed like City of God but with a love story thrown in...Danny Boyle, is going to be nominated for Best Director

and this movie has a hugeeeeee chance to be a Best picture nominee...It gets a larger release in December.

Trailer:

rottentomatoes --> has it at 90% 72 fresh 8 rotten :)

When I saw "Slumdog Millionaire" at Toronto, I was witnessing a phenomenon: dramatic proof that a movie is about how it tells itself. I walked out of the theater and flatly predicted it would win the Audience Award. Seven days later, it did. And that it could land a best picture Oscar nomination. We will see. It is one of those miraculous entertainments that achieves its immediate goals and keeps climbing toward a higher summit.

THATS RIGHT, Im hyping for those dont know about it...it had everything.

Yeah, I can't wait. Danny Boyle is one of my favorite directors. I think they are releasing it at this place called the Esquire by me and I have to see that and Let the Right One In.

Apparently that girl who is a costar is getting all this buzz for her beauty and talent.

People actually stood up and applauded in your theater? That never happens around here, I guess Ducth people realize that you would be applauding to no-one. :D Only times I remember a very vague, quickly dying appaluse was at The Dark Knight and Death Proof.

Anyway, more on-topic; Trainspotting and Sunshine are both brilliant, I heard you should go into this movie knowing as little as possible. So I don't even wanna know the story or see the trailer. Your positive opinion leaves me interested though. :)

I wanted to go to a screening last week in LA but I couldn't since I had to be at work. :csad:

But this looks great! Can't wait until it moves to the indie theater in Pasadena so I can see it! :applaud:

is this going to receive anything close to a wide release?

I think it will get a wide release in december. They know the buzz is out and its oscar material...

Im seeing it again on friday with my gf and then saturday i think with some friends.

just a complete movie with everything to like

Transformers , 300 , Matrix Reloaded , Casino Royale , THe Dark Knight , POTC 2 . All of them blockbusters. And all of them got an applause. Not an standing applause but definately not a quick dying one either :oldrazz:.
It went on the first , 2nd and 3rd viewing of TF , at the end of casino royale and TDK :woot:

ANyways , back on topic. It sucks that this flick willbe released in april next year here :cmad:
