SM3 at the Box Office.

If it's as good as the other films in the drama aspects- which I have no doubt it will be.

And this much action (at least if the plot rumor is true)...

I definitely see this pulling an SM1 or better. Another question- what are the other big releases that are coming out and how much of a chance do you think they have? All I know is POTC3 is coming out, while POTC 2 might be good- information on the third film has me a little scared (news floating around of filming with no actual script- hopefully that will be just a rumor though).

this movie may blow all other movies away, telling by this site alone alot of people will come to see this movie.

i know i will, i may just see it more than once.

this will sell big, they might make about 250-300 million on it, xmen 3 passed the 200 million mark, and im sure this will do better

Found the Competitors:

May 4
- Spider-Man 3

May 18
- Shrek the Third

May 25
- Pirates of the Caribbean 3

June 8
- Ocean's 13

June 15
- Fantastic Four 2

July 4
- Transformers

July 13
- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

July 27
- The Simpsons Movie

And I thought this year at box office was tough- lol. One of the movies that has the potential of becoming a mega hit- The Simpsons Movie. There are MANY fans, but over the years- many of those fans prefer the classics over the newer Simpsons- whether this will make a difference or not...?

My prediction:

1. Shrek The Third (has always carried #1 title)
2. Spider-Man 3 (newer than POTC & more years dedicated to writing- thank god)
3. POTC 3(most likely to fall in the '3 film curse' especially with news spreading about starting filming without a finished script)
4. Transformers/ Simpsons
5. Transformers (if not #4, expecting LOTS of promotion for this film- but some may disregard this as a movie based on a toy)
5. Harry Potter (starting to get too repetitive for average general audience, but will still draw in a crowd)
6. Fantastic Four 2 (after the first film, might be difficult to come back)
7. Ocean's Thirteen (many Ocean Eleven fans, but rare Ocean Twelve fans)

Note- this is just looking at May - September... the movies that I think will be the competitors at box office.

sigh, tell me you did not just put Shrek 3 above Spider-Man.

nice.

damn shrek. he'll take the kids away from spidey!
Yeah - the public will have to choose between two new, slender, good-looking blonde castmembers. Justin Timberlake or Topher Grace? Justin Timberlake or Topher Grace? Choices, choices...

And Pagrebo! Don't you know the rules of the Internet argument? The person who in ANY WAY compares their opponent to Nazis AUTOMATICALLY loses! You can do better than that!

SM3 will break $400M def.

I think it may break the 3 days record too

Shrek will be beaten by a margin of $20M

My basis? no heavy hitters against it for that time next year :D (I think?) lol
it will kick off the summer

*edit: Shrek 3 has a slated June release 2007

Spidey's going up against Shrek and Transformers, Reikowolf.

Although I strongly suspect Transformers is going to go down the "Thunderbirds Live Action Movie" route.

Opening Day: 48-52 million
Weekend: 110 million
Domestic: 395 million
Worlwide: 865 million

Spidey May
Shrek June
Transformers July

Transformers has Michael Bay on Helm and just might be able to beat Spidey... but Michael Bay is a more adult director... making it likely that it will lose the younger audience.

Unlike for SM2/ shrek 2.. their release dates are far enough apart for them to make a signifigant gross before the next film comes out. (where Shrek 2 and SM2 only had a 2 week period between releases.. granted Shrek came out before SM2 but it did steal a bit of its audience regardless)

but you are right, at the end of the summer these movies will all be put head to head for summer gross.

and I stand by SM3 beating Shrek 3 by $20 million.
I was not a fan of Shrek 2 at all.. but numbers don't lie I suppose

Spider-Man 3: May 4, 2007

Shrek 3: May 18, 2007

Transformers: Around July 4th

haha on a side note:

Thunderbirds was directed be J. Frakes (spelling) who played Riker on Star Trek TNG

He's a great TV director (manner of opinion) ... but it doesn't translate well on the big screen

I just checked comingsoon

you're dates are right.

whyt he hell does HSX say june :(

****.. okay... but I still think SM3 will win by $20million :o lol

X3 did drop off significantly well before any other major threats... it lost to some pretty mediocre films in one week... if we get another rushed action packed film we could see a complete drop after a week or so... but I doubt it. I think this movie will have a tough time beating the original regardless.

Spider-Man & Shrek are the two "last" films in a trilogy that seem to not have been rushed. Disney seems to be rushing Pirates 3 so that they have another Pirates movie next year- a la shooting without a finished script. POTC3 will more than likely become next years X3.

And I would REALLY like to see Spider-Man 3 beat Shrek 3, but the previous box office year has shown that not to be the case. Hopefully this year Spider-Man will beat Shrek, but looking at previous years- chance it may not happen. But, hey at least these are the two films 'locked' for #1 & #2 (or at least looks like it to me).

Ebert didn't give thumbs down to the first Spider-man. He just didn't like it as much as the second one.

Also, the second movie made less money because it was released during the middle of a crowded summer. The first movie had a much better release date, which Spider-man 3 will probably have as well.

Not that still, Sony is willing to push the release date back on Spider-man if that's the time it needs to finish and look that much better. Something Fox would never do for X-men. This is why Spider-man 2 was moved from early May to June 30th.

its not a big deal..But Ebert DID give Spider-Man 1, a thumbs down.....but like he said it was kind of a "split decision"

*I'm hoping Spidey 3 does at least 300 million

Who, connected with the movie, has officially state ON THE RECORD that the Spider-Man movies are going to be a trilogy?

And for that matter, the Shrek films (cause I know Shrek 4 has already been planned).

Note- the "last" of a trilogy... didn't know about Shrek- "last" in quotes doesn't mean official. It means possible, but unsure. Should have been more clear.

Personally, hoping for six movies or more. Spidey's my favorite hero in the Marvel universe, heck DC & Marvel universe even.

Predicting a REVENGE OF THE SITH scenario happening here at box office (really hope so).... the first Star Wars prequel was #1, Attack of the Clones- #2, ROTS- #1. Lots have been waiting for Venom and GG2, the same that for the prequels lots were waiting for Darth Vader & Anakin v. Obi-Wan fight. So, really hoping SM3 will pull an ROTS and regain #1.

Seems like if the people here were SO intelligent they would realize this is NOT a spoiler and its in the totally wrong space. Sorry to hear about your penis size, it must be a horrible problem. Funny how its you see someone as closed minded because they point this out. Next time you want to talk about being a noob you MIGHT want to look in a mirror and not how many posts ASSUMING thats how long someone has been here. It could just be a new account. Moron.

See, that's the beauty of the internet and boards like these. Anybody can and will say anything they want. And nobody can really stop them.

So for example, hypothetically speaking, if an ignorant, closed-minded, half-witted cyber-Nazi wanted to try to stop other people from enjoying their freedom to discuss, say, the box office potential of their favorite movie, said mentally challenged, foul smelling gestapo boy with insufficient penile size would fail miserably.

That's, of course, only if something like that were to actually happen.:)

Oh, yeah. Welcome to the hype, n00b!

SM > Xmen. the SM movies are in a completely different ballgame the the Xmen movies. so you can't judge the box office succes of X3 to how SM3 will do.

SM3 will be a SMASH. and it has a few weeks to rack up the bucks until shrek3 comes out. it'll still be huge, though.

I agree with the Shape. Won't say for sure which will end up on top- Shrek 3 or Spider-Man 3 (since Shrek 2 beating SM2 surprised me a couple of summers ago).... both will be the HUGE hits of the summer. No doubt. Both have LOTS going for them. Personally, rooting for SM3- but, some scenes might be scary for some kids (Venom).

actually, i think SM3 will end up with a higher gross than Shrek3. SM3 just has so much going for it and will be so much bigger than SM2.

though Shrek will knock spidey out of the top spot, i think SM3 will wind up with a higher gross.

the ONLY reason shrek beat spider-man was because shrek had a better release date and spider-man was released in the middle of summer with alot of competition.

my prediction, shrek 3 opens strong and then slows down. no way it'll make numbers like the second movie. they used most of their good ideas in the second movie.
