SM3 at the Box Office.

So, it was a release date thing? Oh, ok.... then yeah SM3 definitely.

I thought it might have been- all kids (3 and up), teenagers, adults and grandparents- in other words kids going in truck loads over and over again. Since it was PG.

But, since that wasn't the case... SM3- definitely #1.

lol, ask any kid who knows who spider-man and shrek are, 9 times outta ten IMO they'll prefer spider-man. guys at least

I know- just two summers ago. Shrek2 winning hit me off guard. Didn't know what might have caused Shrek2 to be #1,

Surprising that no one has factored in that SM3 won't be as "light" as the first 2 movies. The Peter/Symbiote (his relationships will suffer because of this) and Brock/Venom angles will be dark and repeat viewings may suffer because of it. Also Harry possibly dying will also be a downer. I don't see the movie going over 350 million. It'll probably be a great movie but won't have the $$$ to show for it...the Empire Strikes Back syndrome.

yawn. SM3 will be a little darker, yes, but even a "dark" spider-man movie is still lighter than most superhero movies, and having a darker spider-man will make even more people want to see it. Don't forget the third one will definitely have alot more action than the second one.

It's going to be 500 gazillion dollars. Seriously though, it will probably one of the highest grossing films of all times and break the box office record. This film sounds as if it's going to be packed with action, and everybody loves action movies.

let's take a little trip back to summer 2004, shall we?

Van Helsing opened first in May, was expected to be a huge hit, it flopped. Next week came Troy, which was also expected to be a huge hit, but it didn't do so well in the U.S.
By the third weekend in May, the public was yearning for a good movie, then came Shrek, which was a good movie, took all of Helsing's and Troy's business. So Shrek had 2 whole weeks to gain some damn good momentum before Potter came out.

Sm2 basically got released in July. At this time, Helsing, Troy, Shrek2(good), The day After tomorrow(good), Potter(good), Dodgeball(good), Fah 9/11(good) are playing in theaters, taking away quite some money from Spidey. Spider-Man still puts up some good numbers in 2 weeks, despite the competition, then here comes some more pain in the following weeks with I-Robot, Bourne Supremacy, The Village, and Alien vs. Predator.

If the dates were reversed with SM2 and Shrek, i could see Spidey2 getting close to $500M easily and Shrek2 close to $400M.

thanks for the recap. i remember it all too fondly...:(

I believe that, with an earlier may release, SM3 has a shot at surpassing SM2 domestically.
