SM3 at the Box Office.

So, it was a release date thing? Oh, ok.... then yeah SM3 definitely.

I thought it might have been- all kids (3 and up), teenagers, adults and grandparents- in other words kids going in truck loads over and over again. Since it was PG.

But, since that wasn't the case... SM3- definitely #1.

And Shape, what did you mean by:

"though Shrek will knock spidey out of the top spot, i think SM3 will wind up with a higher gross."

Do you mean of the box office or just after the week of the 18th, with SM3 having the strongest legs througout the summer making it #1 at box office?

the ONLY reason shrek beat spider-man was because shrek had a better release date and spider-man was released in the middle of summer with alot of competition.

my prediction, shrek 3 opens strong and then slows down. no way it'll make numbers like the second movie. they used most of their good ideas in the second movie.

  i agree plus there is alot of hype going towards this movie than Shrek 3

Surprising that no one has factored in that SM3 won't be as "light" as the first 2 movies. The Peter/Symbiote (his relationships will suffer because of this) and Brock/Venom angles will be dark and repeat viewings may suffer because of it. Also Harry possibly dying will also be a downer. I don't see the movie going over 350 million. It'll probably be a great movie but won't have the $$$ to show for it...the Empire Strikes Back syndrome.

eh...i don't really think the darkness will stop anyone. it's not like it'll be really violent...or rated R. and harry dying has nothing to do with anything.

and i LOVE your avatar.
the crow = the way to go.

An entirely valid argument, but I just don't see that happening.
I really think it's going to do tremendous. Gut feeling, I guess.

I don't know if what I'm going to post is correct or just fan-made, but if this is correct... if this is the teaser. Word of mouth will be EVERYWHERE for SM3 starting June 30th.... if this is true- biggest movie of 2007. Definitely Revenge of the Sith box office level (which, was the darkest Star Wars film- as dark or more so than SM3 will be and was still #1- thus disproving Hitman's "dark" theory- which I myself used to have before remembering ROTS)

That doesn't really disprove anything. EPIII had the whole "this is the last Star Wars movie ever....Darth Vader is making an appearance....blah blah blah" going for it.

but the teaser thing you have is fake.

Dude, what are you on tonight??

And the trailer would come out June 28th anyway (which is when Supes comes out).

Rushed to conclusions- the action caught me... looking back- doesn't look like the genuine trailer description. As said before- my mistake.

And typed fast, still used to thinking SR comes out the 30th.... because that's what's been advertised for a LONG time.

$350 million. Also isn't Batman (1989) still the biggest Superhero movie when you take inflation into account?

No. Even with inflation its Spidey.

Moving past me posting something that makes me the most gullible person on the planet....

Still think SM 3 will be #1 movie of summer 2007.

As for "dark" qualities about it.... so what if ROTS had the whole Darth Vader thing going for it? That doesn't have anything to do with the tone of the film. Revenge of the Sith was a very dark movie and still managed to draw the same audience as the last two prequel films (meaning not dropping any of the above 5 years old who went to go see it). SM3 will do the same, it's a dark movie but so was Revenge of the Sith- and that didn't hurt it from becoming #1 at box office.

Unless MJ dies, SM3 won't be a dark film. ROTS was tragic (in more ways than one).

Dark as in:

Anakin was 'scary' (for those under 13)- remember the scene with him and the young Padawan learners? That was a REALLY dark scene.

Venom will more than likely be just as dark. This villain might frighten some under 13- but not in a nightmare sense (similar to how Anakin was a really dark character in ROTS, but not too dark)

But, darkness of a film- as ROTS showed.... doesn't take away from it's box office.

i agree, and just shed a small tear.

By dark, didn't mean tragic- meant as in the 'darkness' or '"maybe scary" factor for those under 13.' Anakin was a 'scary' villain, but that didn't stop kids from seeing it- neither will this.

I was suprised at how dark ROTS ended up being, I think they handled it very well. That being said, I wouldn't like Spiderman to delve into that level of darkness, I never really cared for it when they did that in the comic books. I wouldn't not like the movie, I just rathered they keep it moderately dark and work on putting in more Spider-quips.

yeah, i see what you're saying.

another dark movie that kids ate up -- batman begins, though that's not nearly as successful as these movies.

Yes, Spider-Man 3 will continue to smash box office records like it's nothing.

No one is saying "darkness" will hurt SM3. NO ONE is! Tragedy and tone define darkness, IMO.

Batman Returns = Dark for its tone (and look)

Revenge of the Sith = Dark mainly for its tragic elements

So Peter goes semi-bad and we have a scary looking Anti-Spidey villain. Unless Peter's true love bites the dust and Bill Pope complete changes his cinematography style, the film won't be "dark".

Hitman stated that the film might suffer because of the Broc/Venom relationship. Thus, my argument that that is obviously not going to be the case. If it was, you wouldn't see kids seeing Revenge of the Sith (Anakin/ Vader) over and over again. Venom/ Symbiote might be 'scary' but he's not going to be that 'scary'.
