Smallville's Black Canary...What do you think?

In The original origin Dinah had dark hair and wore a blond wig when she was fighting crime as Black Canary . Now she's a natural Blond in the re-vamped origin .

Obviously I think the favorite for the role has to be Kristen Bell - especially considering I don't see how this doesn't raise immediate flags to a Green Arrow spin off.

Not necessarily. "Justice" was one of the highest rated episodes, yet no talk of a 'JL' spin-off spung from that (or did it and I just missed it). I would love Kristen in the role, but I can see her doing extremely well on 'Heroes' and being added as a full cast member very soon. We need an actress who can be available for several possible guest spots on 'Smallville' and a possible spin-off series.

There were talks of a JL spin off- but it would but it would be much harder to deal with a JL show than a Star City show. You have almost as rich a history with Green Arrow as you do with Superman, and in fact I think the story arcs you can put Green Arrow through would be far easier to do on TV than Superman's, as well as far less likely for CW to screw up.

Heroes has plans of keeping one of the new heroes on full time for the show, I don't think Kristen is amongst those available though, which makes me think her gig is only short term.

I highly doubt it. If the CW didn't try and get her for Supergirl, right after her own show was canned, and she was out of work, I find it hard to believe they'd try and get her away from her 13 episode contract with NBC, on Heroes.

What about Teresa Palmer for Black Canary.

She is rumored (dear I hope not) for the role of Wonder Woman in the JL movie (she is too short, only 5'4", WW is 6'), but she would be better suited to play Dinah (who is 5'4"/5'5"), whether on Smallville or the 'young' Justice League movie they are making!!

If Ashley Scott still sported her "Birds of Prey" look...she would have been a nice match.

If anything the character will probably be an amalgamation of previous incarnations of the character.

What about Kaley Cuoco. The CW exec. know her from "Charmed" and she has shown a nice range of acting skills. She has also demonstrated her butt kicking skills on the show...so why not!!!

It's my guess that they're going to mix and match from all Canary lore, as they see fit. The show has established a continuity where Superheroes aren't exactly all over the place. There is no JSA, as Ollie's Justice gang seems to be the first team of heroes. So i'm guessing that whichever Dinah they use, will be the first to hold the mantle of Black Canary.

Again, just a guess.

...and a black wig over her blonde locks for the first couple of episodes of Season 8. Not saying that Kaley Cuoco is perfect for the role of Black Canary, but I think she can really pull it off.

But there are many other actresses out there...who knows!! The Smallville exec. will pick a noteworthy actress that will fit their version of Dinah nicely.
