...who agrees with me?

the story, the acting, the score, the photography, the message, the visual effects....all brilliant. This is one of my favorite films and in my opinion, ranks among the greatest ever made.

It was groundbreaking and Drew Barrymore oozed with precocious cuteness. . .what happened? . . . eh, that's another story.

Yeah, it's a great movie that still holds up and it's one of the many testaments to the man who's created some of Hollywood's greatest adventures. I always do wonder though. . . if Steven Spielberg created something that recognizably brilliant, in terms of film, what film did he envision in his mind? I bet that version of it was even better . . . .

I saw it in the theater in its original run at least twice...and it scared the sh** outta me both times. That creepy hand brushing away a tree at the start, the cornfield scene, the astronaut staring down Dee Wallace at the doorway...when I was five years old, that movie was not fun.

Of course, times change. :woot:

Yeah, I think it's one of the best and obvioulsy one of the most successful films ever made.

E.T. is an incredible movie. Stewie Griffin is right on all aspects. I remember when we went to see the 20th anniversary rerelease for a school trip, and we were all in awe of how great it was. A few people cried at the end.

It's a good movie, but in my opinion it's far from one of the best movies ever made.

He said one of the best.

It was a great movie. I dont know if it was one of the best films ever made, but surely a great one. The cheministry between Elliott and E.T. was really strong and the story was so simple and emotive at the same time. Plus, Spielberg brillaint direction and John Williams score( specially in the bike scenes). Great movie.

It's really good and I always get really nostalgic when I watch it, but personally, I wouldn't call it one of the best films ever made.

I watched it once and that was enough for me.

saw it in the movies...cried at the end

My opinion of the movie is scarred forever by my idiotic childhood.

I was Cuh-REEPed out by that loveable little alien freak:(

I'd say it's an OK, film, yes it does seem good, but when you compare it to the multitude of films out there, it doesn't make a top 100. There's a lot more superior films out there, I'm not saying it's not good though. (How long before chrisbalebatman comes in and says BB is the best? lol)

Tell me about it, every time he brings the thread onto how he thinks the best film ever is BB!

So let's get off of this quickly! lol

AFI has it at No 25 in their greatest films list... I would put it top ten, and I have seen most of what are conisdered "the greats."

Spielberg said if had to chose what he wanted to be remembered for he would pick Shindler's List and E.T. because they are his most personal films and he cared the most about them while making.

ET is an unbelievably overrated film.

And, why is that?

When was the last time you really watched it?

It is amazing to me. I sometimes think that people just casually watch films and never really take any time to admire the artistry involved in creating a film. E.T. is truely brilliant. The lighting alone is remarkable. Not to mention there are some wonderfully planned tracking shots. There is a whole motif with Peter Coyote's character and his keys, infact, his character is never even given a name and is credited as "Keys." I wonder if people even realize that E.T. is a contemporary retelling of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan? There are so many layers in this film that to call it "unbelievably overrated" just strikes me as unbelievably ignorant.

Sad, really.

I personally found it boring. I could never get into it.

Those ranking systems out there are horrible. They put some of the most head scratching films up there.

I loved it the first time I saw it and still do.

I see it all the time on these boards. If something lost a Hypesters interest in the first minute, it was "unbelievably overrated". Forget about the artistry and talent that went into, or the thousand shades of orgasmicly mindblowing character nuance. It just "didn't hold my attention", rendering everything else moot.

Damn ADD generation.
