So... How About That Coke Commercial...

Wow, what a horrendous advert. Appeals to all the right emotions and shows all the nice things, but using heartfelt topics as a vehicle to advertise an arbitrary product grates my cheese.

So you mean all the Super Bowl commercials then?

There's a critical crowd for everything these days.

Including feeding the homeless on your own money.

"Ooooh, look at the biiiig hero! A sandwich and something to drink! GIVE THEM YOUR WATCH!"

I'm sure someone somewhere in the world has said something identical to this at some point. Because you're dead right.

Assuming this was directed at me? I'm not in the US and haven't ever watched a Superbowl (Although I think this year it was televised here in South Africa), not that we'd get the same adverts here as the ones stateside in any case. But yeah I guess if the majority of the commercials use the whole "conflate products with emotional issues" approach then I probably would be referring to all of them.

Out of curiosity which other brands had commercial spots during the Superbowl?

ERMAGERRD, Coca-Cola is acknowledging that non-Americans and gay people exist on this planet, what will this do to my CHILDREN?! :cmad:

Any outrage over stuff like this is tired to the point of being goddamn nonsensical. It's the 21st century. Open your eyes and you'll see that not everyone is like you.

My only issue is the ad is complete B.S. What coke is advertising doesn't exist in America.

Most of America doesn't give two ****s about other cultures. It's the American christian way or **** off.

Advertising and the Super Bowl can't be separated. I would advise you to take my approach to the Super Bowl: sleep through it.

This thread and almost all the posts in it are... How can I say this... What's the opposite of wanting something to go on forever?

Sadly this is exactly what alot of the responses on twitter demonstrated.

I'm not surprised. The bigots gotta be heard. I haven't been on the Twitter feed. Got a link for me?

Yeah. And we have yet to crack the code for effectively playing the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future over internet forums. That would fail to convince sociopaths anyway, which I'm sure some of those naysayers are.

Coca-Cola: It doesn't matter if you're white, black, straight, or gay. As long as we're all American.:o

I still find it kind of an odd ad. Not just because it's selling soda. One the one hand, it's that over-the-top, in your-face patriotism stuff that the right loves (though they didn't have any fighter jets... for some reason)... but then they have clips of minorities, gay people, and even Jews and Muslims. All the stuff liberals love.

Maybe they're tying to appeal to both crowds simultaneously? Or that small untapped market of ultra jingoistic liberals?

I get that way too much nowadays because of stupid, silly people irl. :whatever:

You've got to stop catting it up around town on your nifty flying broomstick in your pointy black hat while sipping your Dr. Pepper. :word:

Oh you have me mixed up with another witch. I can normally be found drinking Pepsi with my floor mop. I'm not quite flying around on it though as it's mostly used to clean up after people.

Sod coke the radioshack ad had chunky, hulk hogan, cliff, alf, Jason and slimmer after that nothing matters

Wow I never would have thought that the commercial would spark such a debate. I had no problems with it. I kind of liked it. Overall I wasn't too impressed with any of the commercials this year. They were all pretty weak.

I was going to write about this. What arrogant 'Murica stone age people do we have living in this ****ing country?

Go **** yourselves....all of you, who take offense to this commercial. Who gives a **** what you think you clowns.

I'm disgusted that some simpletons out there have a voice. They should get back to their trailer park lovin, bud light drinkin, shotgun wedding ways and leave the rest of society at peace.

Alternatively we ignore them and deny them a response so they can slowly fade away into obscurity rather than feel they somehow achieved something.

I know it doesn't always work but in this instance, a bunch of whiny people aren't worth the response.

I would happily ignore them. But the media leaches onto stories like this, and gives these morons a voice. This is a "story" and they are going to exploit it for all they can.

Fox will have a special on it today I bet. Ann Coulter will have some serious "thoughts" on the matter. :whatever:
