So How would you change the Star wars Prequel Trilogy?

Number one thing, NUMBER ONE THING; don't have Lucas direct. He can produce, edit, I'm even happy with him writing, just not directing.

Ladeez and gentlemen, we have a winnah! :woot: I agree; the prequels had good actors wasted by Mr. Faster And More Intense.

Bring back Lawrence Kasdan and let him write the script would be good too.

Obi-wan would already be a knight and have his own apprentice. We would see that relationship work til the apprentice is killed.

But then we don't get to see the cycle completed.

We need to see a padawan turn into a Jedi knight then a master. It's important to the story, so we can see Anakin mess up that cycle.

Anakin would've truly been seduced to the dark side. And it wouldn't have been that bulls**t reason to "save" Padme. He wouldn't have been such a p**sy, he would've been a jedi, but a badass jedi from the get go. Also, I would've used Darth Maul throughout the entire trilogy, a la Vader in the original. Lucas *******d that character.

If they absolutely HAD to be made...

-Lucas could not direct.

-Better dialogue.

-More Darth Maul, and I stress this one. We all know he was badass and could have played a more integral part to the entire prequel trilogy had he stayed around. Keep the big battle from Ep1, but have him escape injured. We don't see much of him in Ep2, but in Ep3, it would have been an even bigger battle -- Maul, Obi-Wan, and Anakin. After Maul is taken down, Obi-Wan and Anakin could have faced off. I don't know how the specifics would have worked out. All I know is we needed more Darth Maul.

-Less CGI. That's the thing I hated most about it. I mean, Ep1 was alright, but it went way overboard for the next two. The fact that EVERY DAMN STORMTROOPER was CGI really pissed me off. I can understand for big scenes. But even when one of them comes up to talk to a character in a dialogue scene. I mean, come on. They were cartoons. If they made the original epic films without CGI, why couldn't they have toned it down a little for these?

all three movies should have 1 hour pod races. Everything should be CGI. Lucas should have complete control over every second of the movie, from credits to credits. Every character should be a really bad racial stereotype. Every possible character that was in the REAL trilogy should be paraded through these. And ummm hmmmm OH YEAH. THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF WHAT I JUST F@#&ing said. yeah I was a little disapointed with these movies

Well, the number one thing, as some have suggested, is don't have Lucas write/direct. Have him supervise, but have Lawrence Kasdan work on the script and have some more capable director helming the films. That, and re-cast many of the roles. Natalie Portman? Jake Lloyd? Hayden Christensen?

But specific criticisms:

-Don't make the prequels so obviously for children. The original trilogy wasn't so kid-centered. Sure, they were family films, but they didn't really become dumbed-down until RETURN OF THE JEDI's ewok nonsense.

-Darth Maul was way underused in EPISODE I. I wouldn't want to see him survive this installment, unlike some people, but he could have been given a far beefier role.

-Jar Jar Binks was a mistake that never should have happened. Most of us would acknowledge that.

-Ease up on the CGI. Actual sets are a good thing.

-Don't turn Yoda into a joke. It's a shame that such a great character was reduced to a laughing stock in EPISODE II and III.

If i could change anything I would have had a longer Episode 3. To better set up the rebellion. It was completely forgotten except for the simular looking space craft in Episode 4.

I would have had a grander kick ass fighting duel with Yoda and Sidious. I would have liked to have seen Yoda dispatch some clones with the force and i would have had one meeting between Palpatine and Obi Wan after Anakin turned. I would have had Obi Wan saving Yoda after a fierce battle.

I would have had Spielberg direct, Lucas write the story and Kasdan write the screenplays.

Also I completely agree that TPM was pretty pointless to the overall story. It should have started with Anakin been between 16 and 18.

-I agree about having Anakin as a little kid. I hated that. They should've started him off as maybe a teenager,or at least how old he was in Attack of the clones.

-More Darth Maul! He was the main reason to see Episode 1 and what does Lucas do? He kills him. I would've loved to have seen Maul survive the entire series only to see him fight Anakin in Episode 3.

-Show a little more of Darth Vader in action.

-Lucas should've pulled out all the stops for Revenge of the Sith. Hire great writers and get someone like Spielberg to direct the whole film.

-The entire series should've been alot darker, especially the first two films.

Lucas has a problem with trying to please everyone with his universe. He tries to make certain points & characters dark to hook the adults. But sometimes i think he worries too much about merchandising, and pleasing the kids. How else can you explain the existence of the Ewoks and Jar Jar ?

This thread makes me sad. :csad:
In a parallel universe, 3 great and amazing prequels that matched the originals were made. Unfortunately, we aren't there and we got the opposite. :csad:

I hadn't seen The Phantom Menace in years, but I caught it on cable the other day. Ugh. My God,was it horrible! The bad acting and dialogue was especially clear. The best thing about it was Darth Maul, and he was only in it for what,5-10 minutes? Having young Anakin Skywalker(the man who would become the dark lord of the universe)shout things like "Whoohoo!!" was just bad.:csad::cmad:

-The entire series should've been alot darker, especially the first two films.

Episode I needs to be bright and positive, because the hero of the story is found and everyone is full of hope. Only later does everything go wrong and the mood turns darker.

y'know, Dooku would've been a much more interesting character as simply a misunderstood Jedi, who was trying to destroy the sith from within, and turned out to be the father of the Rebel Alliance. I would've had no problem with him replacing Maul then.

i would've had anakin apriciate a little more that he was the FIRST NON MASTER to be placed on the jedi council.
as it was he seemed like the king of the ingrates

Jesus christ you fanboys are ******s. Im glad lucas is to busy counting all of his money from the thousands of special edition SW dvds you guys keep buying to actually read this.

Speedball- that was probably one of the worst treatments ive ever read. It reads like some kind of wet dream for star wars geeks who read EU(Expanded Universe). The jedi are peace keepers not warriors. How does anakin prove he is ready to be a jedi knight. And how does someone who has never even seen a lightsaber before meeting obi wan able to hold darth maul at bay. And how is maul "called back" does he just turn his lightsaber off and say ok my master wants me to come home so I can be used in a contrived forced lightsaber scene in the sequel.

Your episode two is even worse. If the jedi are aloud to love(as they should be) then what real reason does anakin have to turn. For more POWAH!!!!!LOL.
Some **** bounty hunter should not be able to wound a jedi master like mace windu. How does maul manage to walk through the senate building and straight to a high ranking official. It would be like sadam walking into the white house. Do you think anakin is as stupid as you guys. Why would he turn on the man who rescues him from tatoine because someone tells him that OMG OBI WAN IS A TRATA LOL111.

I was gonna shred your Ep III as well but it seems like you worked very hard on this so I wont. And one more thing why do you guys like boba fett so much. He's a nobody. He's no different than any of the other millions of stormtroopers in the galaxy. He was killed by a blind man.

ass

^Maybe so. But you cant deny the fact that these ideas are a million times worse than anything lucas could come up with.

My biggest problem plotwise with the prequels is that the Seperatist/Clone War storyline starts too late. Dooku should have been the villain from the beginning instead of wasting time on dead weight like Darth Maul and the Trade Federation.

Excellent point.

Hmmm... I can. A paragraph synposis of the prequel trilogy as is doesn't really read any better than anything I've seen here. There are some why's that naturally won't be answered in a simple summary. That doesn't mean the idea is weak, only unfinished. If you had a movie by Speedball and you could point out something that wasn't explained then, Triadkd, your complaints, which are really just questions, would have merit.

Anyways, obviously the biggies: different director, less CGI, less cutesey ness. More of the good stuff (and there WAS some, wasn't there?) and LESS of the weak stuff. I'd actuall suggest making the movies longer and LOTR-epic. My main thought is that all the pieces were there, and that a slight bit of tweaking could have made the prequels truly awesome.

First movie: Phantom Menace

Well, the FIRST and MOST important thing in TPM is: older Anakin. Make him 11, 12, or 13, the age of accountability. This is a child who has a capablity of showing a dark side, or showing hints of being already tainted, making the complaints about him being 'too old' and 'having much fear in him' have HUGE merit. A cute 8 year old who is scared of losing his mother is but two years older than a youngling, and hardly 'fear ridden' when compared with his peers. It also gives his facination with Padme a bit more oomph. And best of all, it gives him flying a ship and blowing up the enemy, fueled by his dark destructive tendencies and assisted by R2-D2 a great deal of credibility. Less of the Bad.

Darth Maul. Add in a couple more fight scenes for him, giving him a chance to really show off the Sith's ruthlessness by slaughtering a city or something (and thus making resonance with Anakin's slaughter later). I'd also add a character building moment ( a conversation with Qui-Gonn during the tatooine duel) where his philosphy of death can be shown off, thus foreshadowing powerful both Qui-Gon's and his own deaths. I think having him defeated by Obi-wan on raw power was unwise, and I think a more 'outsmarted' approach (followed by a killing swipe) would be more interesting. I also think hinting at the existance of Teras Kasi, where an unarmed Maul battles against Obi wan with Saber would have been interesting. But, if it were me, I actually would have had a Maul with robotic legs show up in number 3 to cause havoc. MORE OF THE GOOD.

Jar Jar binks. What can be done to fix this? The comic relief is, unfortunately necessary, especially in a family film like this. I say let Ahmed Best have more say in his lines. Let him be more unintentionally funny than goofy slapstic. Oh, yeah... one, MAYBE two slapstick moments, not endless tounge electrocuting and "yousas." And let Obi-Wan's dislike of him be clear, giving the audience a vent for this, essentially, cartoon character stuck into a live action movie. LESS OF THE BAD.

Trade Federation. Good on the basis, one thing I ask: Let their home base not bear ANY resemblance to the death star... no big circles in the middle... let's at least PRETEND to be origional. I think the biggest and best arguement for the giving up on battle droids in favor of clone troopers would be to have the Jedi turn the battle droids on the trade federation by taking the main control panel. Thus, the droids could have been much better, MORE OF THE GOOD.

Podracing/Tatooine/Midiclorians: I say leave it in, and giving Anakin the handicap of being 'too big' this year after his growth spurt. And while I think the idea of him being immaculately concieved by the Force is utterly rediculous, I think I would have been happy with Shmi being found by Watto pregnant with no memory of where she came from. Everyone can believe what they want. LESS OF THE BAD.

Yep I think that takes care of that. I could speak on the other two movies, but honestly, that setup takes care of just about everything. (oh well, I'm long anyway)

Clone Wars

Foreshadow the clones in TPM and get to them quicker. Yoda should not be flipping like a green ball of fur. Let him strike with power and direct speed, but still be agile and hard to hit as a mother... I like his horizontal spins, but the vetical ones upset me. Yoda running through a crowd of stormtroopers relieving them of their feet would be so cool to me. Less Bad.

The overall issue would be to make Anakin and Padme's love affair interesting and less forced. They would have to travel (not from one field to another) and Anakin would actually protect her life from a viable threat, again, more of his darkside comes out. I would actually have them marry and in crisis to the point where Anakin is about to turn all on his own by the end of two, when the wars start. Someone's idea about Dooku being a mixed side jedi working the sith from the inside against the Jedi's protests is awesome to me. That would have been so hot.

Another small issue is the arena scene and battle. I think having a more varied terrain for Jedi battles: more on-the-steps action, battling in tunnels, jumping from platform to platform, tandem moves and such, would have given a much better picture of the scale of battle that was supposed to be occuring.

Revenge of the Sith

Anakins fall, was, imho the biggest shortcoming of the prequels. I never bought it. The jump from 1 to 2 was drastic an unforeshadowed as it was, but when Anakin went all out against everyone, I just didn't see the need for it... I didn't see Anakin as being that emotionally unstable. A more shakespearean approach: Anakin believing Padme to be dead, would have been FAR more believable a push to the darkside, and given credibility to everything he did after that: True desperation while giving the audience a real sense of the tragedy that is Darth Vader.

I also would have put him in Vader gear MINUS the helmet and chest plate with buttons (as though they were life support and the costume itself was symbolic) dramatically just before he stormed the Jedi temple, perhaps even still carrying Dooku's lightsaber for dual bladed fury... I would even get artful and have him only attack with the red and only defend with the blue. Heh.

Regardless, I feel all the pieces are there, but that some tweaking would have put the Prequel Trilogy on that LOTR level.

She would have died in the interim. Remember Leia had memories of her mother in ROTJ?

Exactly. Why would Padme choose to die instead of take care of her children? Her babies' daddy is now Darth Vader. Not like he's gonna take care of them. He killed "younglings" with apparently no regret.

Some obsessed fans argue that Leia remembered her mother because techically she was still alive when she held Leia, however, Leia had almost specific memories. "She was very beautiful. Kind...but sad.

As far as alternate story ideas, maybe she was killed by the Empire indirectly.
