in the trailer, Bond says 00's have a short life expectancy.
I think it would be cool if Brosnan's Bond WAS dead, and M is welcoming the NEW Bond, so James Bond would be a code name like in the original Casino Royale film.
I'm sure most people are gonna say it's stupid, but i would enjoy it.

no.always hated that idea that bond is a code name..this isn't xXx.

Stupid idea!:down

wow...the ridiculous multiple bond theory shows up to rear its ugly head, and what a dumb idea it is.

Never seen the xXx's movies.....so did Vin Diesel's character apparently get killed off, and Ice Cube take over with the xXx code name?

Same here.

Did George Clooney's Batman die when Christian Bale's arrived? No, it was just a different take on the same character. Same deal here.

who knows... maybe we'll actually get some character development in this film to find out for sure (by the way, I'm one of the supporters of the multiple bond theory)

Yes, a lot of people are gonna say it's stupid, because it is stupid. James Bond is a real, genuine character, not a fake or a puppet who lives and reacts because he was shaped like that. There is one James Bond like there is one Batman or one Spider-Man. The codename theory is a stupid idea that was (not so) good for the 1968 spoof, it has no place in the Bond series.

The script directly contradicts and flies in the face of the "codename" theory (and thank god for that).

So what would be the point of the 007?

...Or the point of having a Felix Leiter who befriends every Bond, or a Moneypenny who flirts with him, or that all the Bond are widowers, etc. HThe codename theory makes no sense, and should be called the codename fantasy. James Bond is not Doctor Who.

I thought this was a prequel, how he got his bouble O status....

Well, yes it is. Or a reboot, or a retcon. The point is: there was always one and only James Bond.

I dont even get how that stupid ass theory started, when anyone with common sense can tell all the actors playing bond are meant to be the same character

I agree...the codename thing is stupid. If not...then MI6 typecast hires everybond to be the exactly the same...love martinis shaken not stirred, have an accent, be hated by Q, have Money Penny flirt with you, etc...

Exactly. A codename Bond would turn the character into a fake, there would be nothing genuine about it. And it makes no sense whatsoever.

It started back in 1969 when they had to replace connery with lazenby...you may remember the line "This never happend to the other fella".. another viable option they were going to use was plastic surgery idea.. bond had to change his face as spectre knew his face to well.

I think Lazenby just broke the fourth wall. And the parody Casino Royale probably contributed to the theory as well. It just doesn't make sense whatsoever.

I like the fact he did that..it settled me into the film.. i would have still loved to see another lazenby one.

Same here... enjoyed OHMSS. I liked seeing Timothy Dalton's "darker" Bond too, forget any of the Roger Moore Bonds (a lot of people like them, but I'm just not one of them)

...It does bother me a little bit that Bond doesn't age (especially compared to poor old Q)...

Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, none of them aged. The time of their actions is here and now. Ed McBain did the same for his 87th Precinth series, and if I am not mistaken so did Fleming in the novels.

Exactly. Well put. Good point.
