LTK

Better song.
Better opening.
Better plot.
Better villian.
Better gadgets.
Better finale (although the finale in TLD is quality).

LTK. It was a perfect fit for Dalton plus it gave one of the best Bond lines in the franchise.

"Then you have my resignation, sir."

Completely disagreed on the first 3. Completely agreed on the last 3.

LTK. It is more tailor-made to Dalton's strengths. In addition to that, LTK has one of the very best villains of the entire series while TLD has two of the very worst.
Agreed. I prefer LTK as well.
As for Dalton, I get the appeal but never liked him as Bond. He tried to be a tough, edgy Bond like Fleming wrote. But Craig would later succeed at it because he could do that and also be cool, seductive and witty. Those are things Dalton was not and are essential for movie James Bond.
I like Dalton (not as much as other Bonds though), and what he lent the character especially at that time, but agree with your sentiment. A Bond actor has to have presence, and I don't think Dalton had this aspect like Craig does.

Licence to Kill is one of my favorite Bond movies so it gets my vote. TLD is also good and thus makes Dalton the only Bond without a "bad" movie.

He also only had two compared to the other guys..

Yep (other than Lazenby). Unfortunately, he's also the only one without a great one.

LTK but a long shot, IMO. It doesn't really feel like a Bond movie, but it kicks all kinds of ass and the Bond girl is cooler. TLD bores the hell out of me for the most part, except for the fight on the plane at the end and the car chase in the snow.

On the other hand... TLD did have Mitchell.

LTK. I dug how it was more a revenge story. I really like both films alot though.

Worst Leiter ever. And there were some bad ones. Thank God they brought back Hedison for LTK.

Zounds, man, you must mean BEST Leiter ever. :cmad: Check out these sick fighting moves:

I'd like to see Jack Lord, David Hedison or Jeff Wright wield a magic broadsword like this! Or haunt a mysterious island, for that matter.

The Living Daylights is an all-around better Bond film, but I prefer Licence to Kill. I love a good revenge flick. Plus, it had better Bond girls and a better villain. Robert Davi is the man.

Looking forward to the Dalton entries, so far I loved Goldfinger, Thunderball and From Russia With Love.

BOND: Well done, chaps! Now, whatever you do, do not use the weapons and training I provided you with to attack the West 14 years from now.

AFGHANS: (In unison) Ohh, we won't ...
:woot:

I like License to Kill. I like seeing Bond go off the reservation and on a mission for vengeance. I like the stuff they lifted from Fleming material. And I just like Dalton and how he played the character.

License to Kill also has a soft spot in my heart because its the first Bond movie I ever saw in theaters.

Timothy Dalton is criminally underrated, he's the best James Bond since early Sean Connery (circa 1962-1967), far better than Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan. The Living Daylights is one of the best Bond films since Goldfinger, From Russia With Love and Thunderball etc. This entry brought "THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS" back into the series, refreshing jolt of excitement after the awful staleness of the Moore era, Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again. Daylights feel like a Bond film, arguably more so than the entries from the 70's and rest of the 80's, can't wait to see License To Kill.

Came across this thread so I figured I'd give my two cents. I enjoy the hell out of TLD. It barely misses my top 10. A solid spy thriller. However, LTK was far superior, imo. Maybe I'm biased because I prefer the darker side of Bond, but LTK is so criminally underrated and Dalton was excellent in it. The dark tone, the villain, and the incredible stunt work among other things. I also really love Q's and Bond's relationship in the film...probably the most friendly and 'real' relationship in the entire franchise.

I loved that Dalton was trying to bring the Bond character back down to earth, but Dalton's portrayal of the character, especially in Licence To Kill were so ahead of its time. I really wish Dalton got a fairer crack at the whip because he is arguably the most accurate portrayal of the character to appear on screen and he looked the part the most out of the other 5 actors.
