This movie was the bomb! Tobey Maguire silenced my doubts that I've had about him for 8 years!

Even Dunst silenced me, or at least I finally got used to her.

I'm an old school Spider-Man comicbook fan, but I can appreciate the Harry Goblin. Bravo! Sandman was sick looking.

Very well done on Venom.

Large and Tiny references galore in this film. The Jazz Club dancing scene was so much like the late 70's early 80's vibe of the comicbook.

The story was just so well told. Raimi got so many great shots. The visuals were from so many angles. Wonderful stuff. I went in with middle of the road expectations and was pleasently surprised.

This is a movie that must be scene multiple times to fully digest the references and all the action. The story was great and it is sortof funny and annoying at the same time to be sitting next to people talking and wiggling in their chair because they can't stand that two people are talking to each other about feelings and responsibility and choice.

I will see one more late night screening in a week and then wait for the DVD.

Again, so much more like the comicbook. Toby really took on the role in everyway, I thought I was watching the freaking comic book.

You know that scene on the subway in S-M 2 when he contorts and whip s his body around the handrails of the subway car? Well it seemed great shots like that were in the whole movie, constantly.

This movie really was a perfect rendition of a comic book
X3 came close as well.

The end part with the newscasters and just the whole team up (Venom/Sandman) thing...wow... total comic book right there.

I really dug the jazz scene, it was funny and good at the same time

Raimi truly is a filmmaking genius

this film was excellent and was truly a Spidey Comic come to life. I enjoyed this film so much and I personally believe it is amazing.

Ok how much is sony paying you guys to say this?

I would take you seriously here, but you seem to be a carange fan, even though in your own signature you seem to acknowledge the fact that there's not a single original thing about the character...

I have to agree number 3 felt the closest to the source material. SM2 managed to capture this feeling a number of times, but SM3 evoked it every other scene. Yes, it sometimes was over-the-top, but in the end, I think it worked mostly to its advantage.

There were some really great moments in the movie and the CGI and everything was awesome, but I really didn't care for this nearly as much as SM2 or even SM. It could have been an epic movie and instead it came across as Spider-Man: The Sitcom. It was like watching Seinfeld with superheroes. I'm just glad I get into movies for free as I would have wanted a refund.

I don't know what is wrong with these movies, but it just seems that when they get to the third ones, X3 as another example, they mix in amazing/epic elements with some WTF and pointless ones. They try to do too much rather than make a well balanced movie. Oh well, it still wasn't as bad as Elektra.

Agreed. Spider-Man, for the first time, really acted like Spider-Man. That alone makes it my favourite, as that's really what I wanted to see in the first place.

And Elektra still isn't as bad as Steel.

Don't say it's spot on with the comics. The whole belltower scene may have been, but Venom playing ultimate team up and getting wiped in 15 mins isn't. I loved his look, but if that's the best story and character development they can give him then I pray for them, and a future film that does him justice.

Also, the fact it's not printed as a series of panels in a 32-page booklet. ;)

Spider-Man acted like Spider-Man.

MJ acted like MJ

Harry was Harry, both in his amnesic state and vengeful Goblin Jr state.

Gwen was pretty Gwenish, she had some moments that were MJish, but overall she was more Gwen than MJ.

And the movie just reeked of the comics.

Seriously, it baffles me anyone could give this film lower than an 8.

Elektra > Spiderman 3

(Least it had some eye candy in it)

Did we watch the same film? Spidey 3 had an insane ammount of eye-candy. There were more amazing visuals than the eye could follow.

And Venom fans need to stop crying. He was very true to character, minus his voice. Just cause he teamed up with Sandman does not mean he was menacing. Cause he damn well was.

Yea but:

Is still not as bad as Jared Leto.....I mean Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man 3. :woot:

Actually, I dont get the complaints about his voice. Other than the animated series, it's not like we've ever heard him talk. I actually loved Tophers "dark" voice that he brought out for it.

Yea, and I was surprised that there was so much cleavage in this movie. It was about as much as you could show without popping out a nip or two.

15 Minutes is long enough. Quit being a blubbering fanboy and crying that your favorite little character got his ass kicked. I swear there is no pleasing some people. This is the CLOSEST you will ever get to a COMIC BOOK TEAM UP in a movie. The end had better team work than all 3 xmen movies combined. Singer and Ratner, take notes because this is how you do a comic book movie.

Now despite that all I found some very ugly flaws in the movie mostly because of cutting or just how the scene was done, I could not understand for example why Peter was looking at the suit for a minute and reflecting while MJ was in danger, then he goes and tries to get harry to come with him. He didn't seem to be in much of a rush, the forgiveness stuff was stupid and misplaced Sandman should have probably died or at least "got away" in a more obscure way than flying above everyone and why was peter more concerned with talking to the villain instead of helping his dying friend. There are so many scenes like that (dancing, the joke after peter being crushed by a 30ft tall sand monster) are so out of place and campy but oh well thats what a comic book movie is and they caught the comic book feel 100% in my opinion.

I think most people just overhyped this and Spider-man 2 was so good it was hard to top. Maybe the film will be better extended with some stuff fixed.

Really? So much like the comic? Which part? Was it the symbiote randomly landing near Peter's bike in a meteor? Was it Sandman being responsible for Ben's death? Was it the look of Peter's black Spider-Man costume? Maybe it was the look of Green Goblin 2? Oh wait, sorry, New Goblin. I'd have to check what issue he is called New Goblin, I must have missed it. Perhaps it was the symbiote turning Peter into some emo looking gigolo?

Sorry to sound like such a d*ck but I actually thought SM3, out of the trilogy, strayed the most from the comics. To be honest with you, I don't even mind that much when a movie strays from the source material if it's done to enhance a really good story. But this movie was comprised of too many subpar stories with the only one taking off being Harry's story. So I felt the changes that were made, did not enhance the other stories.

I must be thinkin' of a different Venom? I was waiting for a scene with Eddie Brock showing up at Aunt Mays door or making Peter paranoid and insane. Apart from his look and freakish qualities he felt like a generic villain thrown in to please the kiddies and tease the fans.

I agree.

Now it'll seem like I'm going totally off topic here, but bare with me...
A common complaint about the Batman-sequels ("Forever" and "... & Robin", in particular) is that the amount of villains ruined the movies, but this has never been my perception. Yes, they were bad movies ( "... & Robin" especially) but the amount of villains is not what made them bad.
Personally, I felt that the fact that Pete had to handle Harry, Sandman, the black suit and (in the end) Venom felt very much like how Spidey will often get into multiple villain troubles in the comics. The many subplots actually helped to make the movie feel more like the comics to me.

As much as I enjoyed the movie, and the scenes of Venom, I didn't find him especially true to the comicbook version. I mean, the basics were there, but at no point did I feel it was the comicbook character stepped off the page (whereas with the Sandman, he was spot on). But Raimi's Venom worked for the story, so it gets the thumbs up from me.
