A few of the comments I've seen assuming Marvel can't do anything new with Spidey or how a teenage Peter Parker somehow won't be relatable enough are pretty ridiculous.

Peter is arguably the most important Marvel character out there for them, with decades of history, stories that very few characters can compete with and the largest comic reading fan base of any of the Marvel characters.

Did I say it was? No I said I hate how people treat Peter as a boring character and miles is better. They both are great characters and I don't care what race plays Peter as long as spiderman is in the mcu.

There is no way in hell they are going to go with Miles, outside of comics fans he's not known.

I went with both, I'd prefer to see a 30 something Peter Parker introduced into the MCU, rather than going back and doing what we've seen twice before. I was annoyed when they rebooted the first time. Spider Man could have existed in the MCU as an urban legend, and therefore his unmasking in Civil War (if it happens) would be a real event. The established and mature PP Spider Man could then be a regular in the MCU appearing in the Avengers films and showing up elsewhere as appropriate.

Then, if they wanted to do the teenager aquiring powers and balancing school with superheroics, bring in Miles Morales for a solo film. This avoids confusion with previous Sony continuity, and gives the film makers a degree of flexibility with the relatively unknown character.

This is what I'd prefer, but I know I'm in a clear minority and Sony / Marvel will go with the generally preferred option of focusing on Peter Parker.

It does matter though. One of Sony's leaked e-mails was from a producer to Michael Lynton.

“I am not saying The Equalizer should not have been made or that African American actors should not have been used (I personally think Denzel Washington is the best actor of his generation),” wrote the producer.

“Casting him is saying we’re okay with a double [baseball term] if the picture works. He’s reliable at the domestic [box office], safe, but has not had a huge success in years.

We have years and many films to introduce him. There is no need to rush anything. At some point I would love for Morales to take over. We should get to see Parker grow up first. Morales should be a lot younger than him 10 years or so.

I want Miles Morales eventually, but Peter Parker Spider-man needs his time to shine in the MCU. I don't care that we've already seen Peter Parker, that's the appeal. When he enters the MCU, it's like seeing a legend joining in. I also don't mind that we are getting another solo film with Peter, because he deserves an actual great film, and it's co-produced by Kevin Feige and his Marvel Studios team, so it has the best chance a Spider-man movie has ever had.

I would want Miles to eventually appear, but so far I haven't been satisfied with how Peter Parker has been portrayed in the Sony movies. I am hoping Marvel Studios can finally bring the character to life. Besides, Peter Parker is a very important character in lots of stories like Civil War. They can't just replace him with Miles for that.

White Peter Parker please, wanting to change his race for no reason is so annoying. I would feel the same way if they wanted to make Black Panther, War Machine, Falcon, Spawn, Blade, etc white because it's totally unnecessary. Haven't read a single comic with Miles but if they want to do a spin off with him down the line I wouldn't care, however, I don't see that happening for a LOOOONG time. Their will probably be at least 3 or 4 solo Spider-Man movies along with him appearing in Captain America 3 and Infinity War 1 and 2 so you're looking at about 6 or 7 movies before they even entertain the idea of a Miles Morales movie.

Peter Parker. Keep his story going until the actor wants out and then bring in Miles. That way we get the best of both worlds, plenty of classic Spidey stories and then the possibility of something new down the line.

I hate how everyone or anyone who supports Miles say "peter parker is boring his story has been done to death. We need a black person as spiderman. Peter is whiney ***** while Miles is more interesting".

The stories that were told arent even half of spideys lore and Miles is a cool character but dont put the original down just to try and be cool and edgy. Yea its a new spiderman story and yea its peter parker does that mean its the same story? No! just because sony decided to retell the raimi spiderman story again doesnt mean freaking marvel will.
It makes me angry when people who dont know about a character bring the character down because they are ignorant to the source. Saying peter parker is a boring character and wanting to replace him with Miles is a shame. I cant believe we have people considering this idea.

If you like Miles fine but dont diss the original just so can feel original in saying "hey lets make this character black".
We have numerous character we have or can make a person of color.

We've gotten how many films with Bruce Wayne does that mean that they should use JEan Paul Valley or Dick Grayson as Batman

If someone was to say that they legitamatley like Miles over Peter because they like Miles more, I'd respect that. I'd disagree but respect it. But all these Miles supporters seem to just have the flimsiest reasons for why he should/shouldve been the MCU Spider-Man

The cheap dollar store knock off is what a pretender might try to use, not the actual creators of the character. Otherwise that would just emphasise even further that Sony's Spider-Man is the true Spider-man and Marvel's Spider-Man is a pale imitator. Marvel won't want that.

It's bad enough that the press release is wording it in terms of Sony allowing Marvel to play in their sandbox and enter the amazing world of Spider-Man instead of Marvel allowing Spider-Man to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If Miles were the one used, it would look even more like Sony just tossed Marvel a scrap, and Marvel desperately ate it up because beggars can't be choosers.
