"So You Think You Can Mod?"

Welcome to "So You Think You Can Mod?", a Hype Reality show where contestants share how they would handle controversial situations that arise on a message board. I'm your host, Lightning Strykez. :hyper: The rules for this game are simple and we encourage everyone to participate like they've got some sense. They are as follows:

1.) A scenario and question will be posed for consideration

2.) Contestants can reply with an explanation of how they would handle the problem if they were a moderator

3.) Other Contestants may dissagree with your assessment. If so they are allowed to challenge you with a counter-response explaining why they feel differently. Moderators and Administrators of this site are welcome to chime in based on their experiences in the role

4.) Debate will be allowed until a new scenario is posted for debate

What do you win? Aside from the adoration and respect from others who read your replies, who knows? Perhaps the way you articulate yourself here might just grab the attention of the staff here for something vunderful in the future...We'll see. The purpose of this game is to test your diplomatic mediating skills, and to gauge how your peers might see things differently. At times there may be no right or wrong answer, but simply a judgement call based on conscience, and we will investigate those "gray areas".

NOTE: This thread is not meant to single out/ critique how any Hype's staff member (past or present) handles situations, but rather how you would behave in similar scenarios. Any posts containing dumbassery will be deleted, and repeat offenders will be ousted from the program. :cmad:

Do you sign up or is everyone able to play at once?

I'd give this a crack. How do you sign up?

I would so lose at this game. :csad:

SCENARIO #1:

For 400 Points:

"HYPESTER A has made it known that he despises gay people. He knows that HYPESTER B is gay because they've mentioned it publicly. HYPESTER A seems to appear in nearly every thread HYPESTER B participates in. He makes subtle knocks and insinuations about gay people, but he is civil about it and never uses gay jokes. He also never attacks HYPESTER B directly publicly or privately.

Question: The gay poster believes he's being singled out and harrassed and demands that you discipline HYPESTER A based on "assumptions." What do you do?

KEY POINT: Note that Hypester A is not "direct" with his trolling, nor has he attacked anyone. Technically he has not broken the rules. This is a gray area.

You contact HYPESTER B and tell him he has a warning. If he makes anymore gay jokes or negative remarks about gay people then he will be banned. Monitor him, and if he does it again, ban him.

This is what we call a round table discussion, which means everyone is allowed to play at once.

Scenario 1 is up--so go, go, go!!!:up:

Already went. :cwink:

Pm the guy for both sides of the story, check the threads and collate the data of evidence,

if it suggest he has been doing what the poster says he is doing,

instant Warning by pm.. if it is allot probation.

I leave it alone until Hypster A actually insults him or gay people as a whole. He may well be singling out Hypster B, but he is not directly doing it. You can't tell him not to go into areas Hypster B goes, cause he has that freedom. He also can have his views on gay people. That is also his right.

Tell him to ease up on the gay remarks, but since he hasnt really singled out "B" what has he really done wrong?

This should be fun..

HYPESTER B is innocent and has come to you for assistance.

You lose a turn. :cmad:

I would send Hypester A a private message politely asking him to stop with the remarks and hope he does. If he doesn't seem to learn his lesson I would then send him another pm warning him to stop or face being banned. If he doesn't comply after that, I would ban him.

Aww, come on! You could've given us a nice, easy one to start with! :csad:

Ok, here's what I would do...

Thank Hypester B for bring it to your attention & assure him that Hypester A's posts will be monitored.
Conact Hypester A telling them that you have recieved a complaint about them from a fellow Hypester & that they are being monitored. If the problem pursist, a warning would be issued to Hypester A. If it continues after that, a tempory, week ban. After that, a month. After that, perminant.
