Sonic Unleashed!

Sega should just go the Mega Man route and release a totally retro 2D Sonic game. Remind people of what made Sonic great in the first place and then develop further games from there. Add 3D into the next game, then try some RPG elements or whatever in the one after that. They need to restart from scratch because each new game finds Sonic tumbling further into a hole of mediocrity.

True that. Heck, they could even rip off Megaman 9 directly and call it "Sonic the Hedgehog 4." The only places where I'd say they should "cheat" would be giving the game a slightly better color pallet and sound than what was possible on Sega Genesis. Other than that though, I'd make it be as pure a Sonic game as possible, taking the gameplay back to being just Sonic with classic pixelated graphics, hopping and bopping his way through levels with the occasional long stretch of land to run across.

Throw in Knuckles and Tails and no one else (especially no humans besides Robotnik/Eggman like so many later Sonic games had) and it'd be pretty solid.

I finally got around to trying the demo... and wow this is a horrible game. Steering Sonic is sluggish, the only sort of decent parts are when it's in 2D, and even then it just feels like I'm holding the stick forward and barely playing the game.

Phew, I'm glad I deleted this off of my hard drive.

I disagree entirely. I think the Sonic gameplay in Unleashed is a massive improvement from Sonic the Hedgehog '06.

That's like saying diarrhea smells better than a rotting corpse. The diarrhea still smells like !@#$.

Dammit, the PS360 version looks better :( .

Surprise surprise. Everyone is disappointed in this Sonic game.

You know, I gave up on Sonic after Sonic Heroes. I really liked the idea of that game, and I'll even go as far as to say that Sonic Heroes would've gotten a passing grade from me if switching to Tails still allowed you to run. But sadly, that game showed me that Sega will get try so hard, but always get something wrong that ruins the whole game.

I enjoyed the Wii version, although I agree there is way too much werehog. According to what I've seen on some message boards and YouTube, those who've played both the Wii and HD versions actually seem to agree the HD version is the superior one (I suppose it helps that there's more hedgehog in the latter version).

When I'm finally able to get a PS3, I'll rent the PS3 version and see for myself whether or not it is putrid **** like critics are saying. I'll steer clear from S06 though, since it seems damn near reviled by everyone.

I've got it on my Gamefly list for 360. I'm not expecting much, but Sonic was one of my favorite franchises growing up, and a big part of the reason I favored Sega over Nintendo in the early years of the console wars (I always thought Mario was kind of lame, although he's definitely evolved better). I feel like I have to play it, just to either confirm that it sucks or be pleasantly surprised through at least a few parts of it.

Sega stopped making good Sonic games for the home consoles when they started going multiplatform. Its as if they stopped trying once they could no longer put them on a Sega system

Sonic stopped being good when it went to 3D. After Sonic Adventure, the franchise went downhill.

thats debatable. I thought Sonic Adventure was a great game and its what got me to buy a Dreamcast. SA2 wasnt as good but it was still a solid title. Sonic Heroes is the first main Sonic game that I would say had the word crap attached to it and for good reason

I played the demo. I'm considering dropping it from my Gamefly list now. It was just... boring. The speedy parts were either too fast for me to comprehend, so the game went on autopilot, or I missed something and the game ground to a screeching halt because I died or had to go back and try to hit a spring the right way or something. I could've sworn old Sonic games flowed a lot better than this. :(

I kept trying to jump from one pole to another during that sliding part, and I constantly missed and died. It's really a terrible demo, and this doesn't even have the werehog parts.

Yeah, I thought it would give me a werehog level after the normal level, but I got the title screen again. Way to make half a demo for a game that's heavily marketed on two distinct gameplay modes...

Marketed as 2 different modes, but there are actually 3, and the best of the 3 is a smallest portion of the game and all of the demo. That's how they trick the misinformed folk.

The third one being the almost-2D segments? That was the most fun part to me in the demo.
